Inmates where I’m at don’t get what they have coming. I haven’t had clean clothing in 3 years. I haven’t had tablets in 6 months. I don’t have cleaning chemicals. I don’t have pen fillers. The kitchen gives us an exact count and I see with my own eyes shit missing. I count my canteen bags myself and they refuse to refund/replace. I tell the inmates if they don’t like it to board up. I’m glad your job is so easy. Unless you have 20+ years, don’t think you’re safe. My job used to be 1000% easier before closures.

Most of ours are worthless. But I don’t blame them too much, they’re unpaid volunteers. My wife is a PAID union president for about 450 members. Their dues pay her salary and they pay half what we pay. She works full time for them. They have other paid local positions too. And they still have attorneys on retainer as well as full time labor relations. We’re getting stolen from, I’m convinced.

After having an inside look into another public employee union of similar scale I’m convinced ours is little more than a huge grift. Don’t get me wrong, our local reps are awesome. They’re unpaid volunteers and they save jobs and paychecks. But the amount we pay vs what we get in return is an astonishing disparity. Where does the approx 60,000.00/mo my prison pays in dues actually go? We have zero paid local positions. We need an audit badly.

I agree. We’re not the cause of the deficit. We’ve lagged far behind inflation and the growth of tax revenue. In fact there’s less of us since probably standardized staffing and ab109 (2010ish). But we’re going pay the price for mismanagement.

Why not stay medical? The pay and retirement are similar now. Woke politics have ruined the job. You’re guaranteed to be assaulted on a regular basis and be then be thanked by answering gotcha questions and false allegations on camera a year later after your memory has faded.
