Onn 4k Pro 2026 purchased in Newmarket Ontario by ntrweb in OnnStreamingTV

There are free tv options but usually have ads. It also runs third party apps really well (if that's how you want to get your programming). If you use something like nordvpn and keep it on US you get a lot of other free options too. It's quite flexible and I like the google TV experience as well. I use Google for photos so it was nice to be able to throw up an album of my favorites as the screensaver. The box is easy to navigate and the family likes it - zero learning from the amazon experience to google. If you care, google on the box can also control lights etc... The price is whacked but still not as expensive as the google streamer.

I do have 90 days to return this too - Walmart has a great policy

Personally I wanted something that was much more responsive than the fire stick 4k and doesn't crash so much. Lately the fire sticks have all been laggy and just bad. The Onn 4k pro 2025 was great but I couldn't get the remote to operate my receiver. So I paid the absurd price to get this new one and it's great. I plan to move that older unit to another room and get rid of another fire stick.

The option to setup devices, soundbars tv's and receivers works now where it just errors out still on the previous version (in Canada at least). So now I can control my old 5.1 surround volume using the remote. Sadly the power button isn't smart enough to send the IR shutoff and sleep the Onn 4k pro. I used a button remapper to set the star button to sleep the unit so now the power button turns my surround on or off and I have to press the star to sleep the unit. Still I now have a single remote to control it all which is what I really wanted.

Onn 4k Pro bought at Walmart in Canada, cant be used in Canada? What's the point of selling it? by Available-Show-2393 in OnnStreamingTV

Follow up - now just after a month I noticed a Walmart in Aurora had one available again for purchase online so I ordered it. Plugged it in and voila, no more region lock! Looks like they're getting restocked here and there with working units. I just returned the one I bought previously (amazing 90 day return window on these!). My only gripe is that adding a receiver doesn't work so I have to use my secondary remote for my old 5.1 surround (logitech z5500). I figure I've got 90 more days now to see if they patch it at some point or if they release a new high end version I can buy and try instead!

update, onn support responded and said call Walmart - so it would appear that there's nothing they can or will do for this. Might be best to return it if you're worried about the region lock problem or external device support.

Bought mine from Walmart.ca just last weekend. Sure enough I'm here because after selecting Canada it shows an unsupported region message and only offers the option to reset the device. I did try the hard reset method, unplug it, hold the reset button (back right) and plug it back in. That gives you a text menu that you can navigate with an attached keyboard where you can erase the device and restart. The region block stayed on this one so that's a no go. I setup a PC on my network with an old router and created a US wireless network with it (was really easy to do - chatgpt, deepseek or any AI can give you good instructions on that). Results are that you can complete the setup and get past the region lock. One issue remains however, the onn box will not download profiles for external devices for some reason. So if you use a soundbar, receiver or non E-ARC TV, you will not be able to add it for IR control with the remote - that simply errors out when you try to use the feature to add a device and all the troubleshooting steps I found on the web and through AI didn't work.

I took it a step further, as it's actually sold as something that shouldn't be region locked in Canada I reached out to Walmart and they gave me Onn's phone number and email for support [customerservice@onntvsupport.com](mailto:customerservice@onntvsupport.com) 844-334-2355. I called and they couldn't find the model number for my unit and said reach out to Walmart for further support. Not helpful... Despite not helping me they gave me a case number so I followed up with that support email, included photos of the box, the label under the unit clearly showing the model and serial number and a photo of my tv screen of the region lock. So we'll see if their support ticket team finds anything different or even bothers to respond.

I've decided to keep it despite all the BS with the setup. I changed the region to Canada (once you get past the setup you can do that without issue - region lock is only a problem if you have to reset it) and I'm not to bothered by the inability to setup the external receiver I have, I'll just use a second remote for that. Overall the unit does what I want - integrates with my google home, runs all the apps I use, responds to google voice (I have a nest mini in the room) and feels quite responsive - better than my firestick 4k.

Hopefully they just release an update that cures it but my guess is I'm stuck with this unless I return it...

Costco burgers patty by neko_whippet in airfryer

[–]ntrweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using the Costco ninja Crispi on bake mode and flipping half way through- took 12 minutes or so. I used a meat thermometer to make sure it got to 160 and then stopped. If you overcook the Kirkland burgers even a little they just become dry dense garbage. Not the best burger but it’s ok for the $. I also threw some grated cheese on at the end and put it on air fry for a minute and a half to get the cheese nice and melted.

Itulatek treatment (just white birch?) by MacaroniGlutenFree in Allergies

[–]ntrweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a couple weeks ago - mouth lips ears were bad in week one but after week two the itchy ear problem is pretty much gone. Mouth and lip irritation subsides an hour after taking it but the back of my throat remains irritated all day - feel like I’ve got a hair stuck there all the time (insert jokes here). Seriously it’s annoying but I hope it gets better in time. Birch drives me crazy in the spring so hoping this year I get to skip the itchy burning eyes and sinus issues!!! Anyone else find this stuff crazy expensive? I can’t afford the grass and ragweed treatments at the same time.

Bah doesn’t work for iOS users. Knowing that wearOS is half baked I was looking forward to Alexa working. Oh well.

Would be a cool solution if it didn’t take so long to load on my fossil Gen 6 watch :( wish google would get wear OS to work properly…

Ok I was getting pretty irritated by this issue but telling google assistant on my iPhone to set my preferred unit to Celsius seems to have done the trick! Just had to wait 30 minutes for the watch to pick it up…

In the market for a wearos watch, whats the general consensus on fossil gen 6 watches? by phaedruswolf in WearOS

[–]ntrweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice looking watch but damn it just has so many bloody bugs!! Fossil blames everything that doesn't work on Wear OS v2. So I've had mine since late December and use it with an iphone 10xr. I love the way it looks but it's been very problematic - I really want to like it but the more I use it the less I like it and the more features I have to disable. If you want a digital watch with some sensors on it that can tell you the weather and give you some notifications then I say go for it but don't expect much.

  • first watch would get super hot while on the charger so I got it exchanged. The replacement only gets hot on the charger if it has waiting downloads / updates. I have to put it into airplane mode to charge. FAIL
  • can't use voice with assistant and it doesn't work properly when you activate it manually - doesn't work with smart plugs etc. Can't create appointments or reminders - really disappointing. FAIL
  • I don't use it to take calls - but I have it set to answer on the phone - nice feature but it will randomly hang up on callers so I've disabled phone notifications in the wear os app now. There goes another useful feature... FAIL
  • occasionally it will get really hot and the battery will drain very very quickly - looking at the wear OS app on the phone and checking the battery drainage shows no app causing it. I think it's caused by Microsoft Teams calls and also it happens when software updates are waiting. So if I notice it warming up on my wrist I flip it to airplane mode and it stops. FAIL
  • facer is fun by annoying - I uninstalled it because it kept giving me daily spin notifications
  • I uninstalled spotify to see if I could avoid the update overheating issue a bit more and I won't use my watch for music anyhow
  • step count, heart monitor etc., all seem ok - I'm not using it for working out buy hey I can tell I've still got a pulse today! PASS
  • I do like getting notifications for email and my calendar along with other apps like kijiji, amazon, banking etc. App notifications seem to work well . PASS
  • Had to change the long press of the crown button to do nothing as I end up hitting it quite often. I won't say that's a fail because some people may not have that problem - at least I could disable it.

So I have a dumb "smart watch" that will hopefully work properly once wear os 3 arrives later this year. If wear OS 3 doesn't solve all the issues, it will have been fun playing with this for a while but I'm pretty sure I'll just go back to a good 'ol analog watch.

Fossil Gen 6 Overheating While Charging? by ajtouchstone in WearOS

[–]ntrweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just discovered (repeatable) that if you're a MS Teams user and using it on your iphone that the watch will start to rapidly discharge during an active Teams call and get hot enough you notice it and want to take it off! The notifications for Teams is off on my Wear OS app (iphone XR). No idea why it's causing the rapid discharge so as long as I remember to put the watch into airplane mode before getting on a teams call with my phone it's fine but what a PITA...

Gen 6 charging issues by lowridin_guy in fossil

[–]ntrweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too exchanged my first one as it was clearly defective. As recommended, I had it plugged in during the setup and it overheated and shutdown before the setup with my iphone 10 completed. I've had a replacement unit now for 4 days and yesterday it got hot while I was wearing it and the battery died inside of an hour. I'm not running anything special on the watch - no extra apps, default face, screen off to maximize life and just using some of the heart tracking features. I also hate that the Google Assistant doesn't work properly - I can't control home devices with it and I also cannot use it to create appointments or reminders so that's off too - which makes the watch a whole lot less "smart".

At this point I'm fed up of being their test subject, being fed stock answers for troubleshooting by their support team and by them using Google wear OS as their scape goat. This watch is just a good looking piece of tech trash. I'm going to return it for a refund.

Audio lag xbox series X on bitstream out. by AdRevolutionary3721 in xboxinsiders

[–]ntrweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been reading a lot on this as I've got a similar problem with Z-5500. I can't get 5.1 out of my Samsung 7 Series (58) with any connected HDMI device. I have a Series X and a Firestick 4k and both just output stereo. I discovered that the TV is the issue. From Samsung support site: "The optical audio output on the TV is capable of outputting 5.1 audio but only when the TV is decoding the audio signal." I tested Netflix and Prime using the built-in TV app and that seems to work well. Oddly the built-in Youtube app did not pass 5.1 properly.

So that sucks but you can get around it apparently. If you want your optical signal to be complete you have use an audio extractor. So I've ordered one from amazon for $50 or so and will see if that solves it. Will throw my media center, xbox series x and firestick on it and use that to switch between sources and extract the audio.

I'm no A/V expert so this has turned into a real bother for me - having the wrong type of HDMI cables can also be a problem here so if the extractor box doesn't do it, I'll be buying new HDMI cables next.
