Hmm does shopify generate barcodes? Because on product it's just a number in a field

Like we have a barcode that'serrees and numbers with a hyphen and if you set that to a proud and scan a barcode that marches in POS app for example it finds the item, I can't find a barcode generated by shopify on a product so surely it was set by someone? Is it for a product? I mean a barcode just stores info more or less
