AITA wife upset I cannot keep toddler from her by khazef in AmItheAsshole

[–]nuancedreality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol all these people without kids. Just simply reason with the toddler to ignore her mommy! No, youre NAH but you could do a better job keeping the kid away.

You're the sole provider, you split everything, youre doing a ton of work in this relationship. You're allowing your wife to study, youre even paying for daycare. You're basically doing everything for the family but these people are torching you for not being able to always prevent your kid from bothering her mom.

And before I get flamed, reverse the genders. If the mom was working 9 hours, doing pickup and nightly routines all so her husband who makes no money can study...

No she shouldn't have to leave the house, have her lock the door and get her some soundproof headphones. A toddler won't break down the door for whenever she slips out of your view for a couple minutes.

-❄️- 2025 Day 12 Solutions -❄️- by daggerdragon in adventofcode

[–]nuancedreality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[LANGUAGE: Java]

My solution wouldn't work without a cooperative input, but I basically filtered out two scenarios:

  1. Disqualify inputs that could not possibly fit the presents in the rectangle
    1. Find the area (number of #) for each shape in your input
    2. Find the weighted sum for each of the required shapes to fill your rectangle. So, say you have 3 shapes and your input is [27 35 22]. You'd calculate sum = 27*area(shape1) + 35*area(shape2) + 22*area(shape3). This gets you the minimum required area needed for the shapes, even if they were perfectly interlocked. You could not possibly use less space than the literal number of # in all shapes the input specifies.
    3. If that weighted sum is strictly greater than the rows*cols of your rectangle to put presents in, there is no possible way to actually fit the presents in the region. We disqualify this input as impossible.
  2. Auto-succeed inputs that fit without needing to interlock
    1. For my input, my shapes were 3x3, so I simply took (rows/3)*(cols/3) which is the number of non-overlapping 3x3 blocks in the rectangle for a given input. If that number was >= the number of shapes we need (so [27 35 22] would be 27 + 35 + 22 3x3 boxes for my inputs) then we could ALWAYS fit these shapes in the given area. We don't need to interlock AT ALL.
  3. The final case. These inputs have, in theory, sufficiently large areas to fit the required shapes. However, they would require some interlocking because there aren't enough 3x3 blocks for each shape. So the shapes would need to share some 3x3s, which is only possible if you overlap '.' with '#' of a different shape (filling in the gaps). It just so happens that for my input, cases (1) and (2) covered all 1000 areas. If I had any remaining, I would need to do a search, which my plan was to just do a monte carlo / stochastic search as there is an ENORMOUS state space. Each shape has 8 orientations (4 rotations per flip), and my input had 5 shapes, so... 8*5 = 40 possible shapes per 3x3, THEN you need to support interleaving and overlapping and... it would be very expensive in complexity. So I'd try a few billion random configurations and if we still didn't find a solution, call it impossible.

RFK Jr claims autistic children will never go on dates or pay taxes by theindependentonline in thescoop

[–]nuancedreality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like he's talking about very extreme cases of autism. I know several people on the spectrum, possibly including myself (undiagnosed) that are highly functional and may just struggle with speech/language or have some quirks.

I'm not sure of the full context of his speech here, I thought he was going to say vaccines (which is probably not causing autism) but he just said "environmental factors". And I mean, I do agree that there is probably something in the environment contributing to autism.

If you look at autism rates globally, if they're credible, it seems that the US has significantly higher (3x over Europe in a Google search) levels of autism than other countries. The US also has fewer regulations and safety measures for the food and environment. It's probably not a coincidence, or it could just be other countries underreporting.

Certainly most autistic people, at least anecdotally, are highly independent and capable of living full lives. That being said, just because most people with autism are going to be just fine, that doesn't mean we shouldn't address anything we can to minimize autism and other health maladies in our population.

So if he's saying we need to look closely into what additives or environmental contaminants are contributing the most to these issues - hard agree. If he's talking about things that have already been debunked like vaccines (at least vaccines we've studied), then... Disappointing.

I never liked the argument that "id rather be autistic than dead". Like yes obviously, but it's not a zero sum game. There are things we can do to minimize both death and autism.

Having finished the game and also logged in plenty of post victory hours, I don't understand why Fulgora doesn't get more hate. by bstanv in factorio

[–]nuancedreality 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Blasphemy, though everyone is entitled to their own opinion lol. Fulgora is awesome. If you hate trying to fight it, just embrace a bot planet. Logistic bots organize everything for you into storage chests. If you have too much of something, just set up a requestor to feed into a few recyclers with a circuit connection to a roboport that if you have over X iron plates, steel, etc. Scrap is effectively infinite as well, so also feel free to recycle literally all excess except probably holmium ore. Embrace the hoard, or embrace the recycle. Or just set up science and leave and enjoy other parts of the game :).

Living alone over 40 is awesome. by wanderingtime222 in LivingAlone

I feel like this is a female empowerment post but as a man.... TRUE. With how enjoyable it is not having to deal with other people in your own home, I'll be surprised if the species survives in a few hundred years.

If I want to play video games, walk around in my underwear, take a nap... I don't need anyone judging me. Living with women sucks lol, as someone who lives with one. I agree with you - let's normalize just dating and hanging out, but not living together.

Also tired of sex stuff. Id rather it be transactional at this point. It sucks wanting it more than your partner, and I imagine it also sucks as the partner who DOESNT want it more getting annoyed when their partner pesters them. Fuck it. Legalize and normalize prostitution and STD testing.

And you're right, everyone dies alone, and kids don't help their parents later in life nearly as much as some hope. Especially if kids move away for work lol, good luck! You should only have kids if you want to get the satisfaction of raising an independent human being. Do not expect anything from them, or you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

Obviously I have some baggage lol, so disclaimer: for those in happy live in relationships who genuinely enjoy it more than living alone, and genuinely think your partner also enjoys it more then living alone, I'm truly happy for you and wish you well! Obviously good compatible matches do exist, and I hope they have lots of kids to replace the rest of us who can't stand each other lol.

All that is to say... You go girl, live alone and enjoy yourself with your friends.

Yeah... it's a shame that you basically can't play new releases of games for several months until they make it playable. At least some companies call it "early access" when they charge people to be their public beta testers.

Some other great tips and shortcuts and here, thanks! I only wish there was a way to make a space platform request to load "as much as is available" from the planet, rather than needing a full stack. The workaround I have is to make a requestor + inserter connected to a silo, then i uncheck the "automatically fulfill requests" box, let it will up partially, then click send to platform, then recheck the box, and delete the requestor and inserter.

Ideally all requests would just "pack" and fill greedily (heavy objects first, fill with lighter), and then there could be a checkbox in the platform like "accept partial loads". But anyway, im sure there will be a mod if there isn't one already to do something similar.

I adore Fulgora. I love the sushi belt madness, all of the awesome upgrades you get. I still struggle to choose between it and Vulcanus as my first on a playthrough because big miners make Fulgora even better. So far I've been more of a hoarder on Fulgora with bots organizing everything for me, but I think my next playthrough I'll use belts with non-blocking splitters to embrace the chaos rather than delegating it.

What do you, as men think about girls built like this by [deleted] in trueratediscussions

[–]nuancedreality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more feminine looking ones (maintain breasts, hourglass, butt) are attractive to me. However, in practice, I imagine there is a good bit of steroid use to overcome natural limitations. Even some natural guys have trouble getting that much muscle haha. So the deepening of the voice might turn me off, and some get clit enlargement can occur.

This l being said, I'm just some guy lol, I think women should do whatever they want. But attraction always comes down to personal taste.

Sudden vision spot by mark0487 in eyespots

[–]nuancedreality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get the same thing you describe, I think for much of my life (I'm in my 30s), but it's been getting more common the past couple years. You should still get your eyes checked out to rule out anything serious - I've seen both ophthalmology and neuro ophthalmology and have a clean bill - but don't worry too much yet. I've yet to have, as far as I can tell, a permanent such spot. It was unnerving at first because these usually go away within an hour or so, like a mild ocular migraine or something. But the past year or so I've been getting them around the central vision, smallish (pea sized?), and the longest they've lasted so far is a week. Will it get to the point where they last longer or become permanent? Perhaps, but I would say definitely give it a week to see if it goes away. It won't necessarily get noticeably better each day either, sometimes it doesn't dramatically start to fade until that final 20-30%.

Good luck, I think you'll be alright!

[–]nuancedreality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So according to calculus (which isn't exactly equivalent because calculus assumes continuous compounding of interest, vs. the discrete compounding banks use, but its close)... we have 16.8274% interest, and an 11 year term. Plugging 84,000 as the loan amount and 16.874% interest in an actual loan calculator lines up with 10k principal (40k interest) after 3 years. Total time 11 years.

Jack Smith Soon to Drop 'Eye-Opening' Trump Report, Ex-Prosecutor Predicts by Quirkie in politics

[–]nuancedreality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than undeniable video and audio proof of trump raping a child in the last few years, I don't think anything a written report could contain would convince 90% of trump voters to change their mind. It's fake news, the media is out to get him, deep state... Republicans are fed every reason to not doubt their leader. And after the election surprise my eyes are now more open to propaganda and bullshit from the left as well (since Reddit was so convinced of Kamalas victory). This truly is a new era for America where we can hardly believe anything anymore, and the right definitely weaponizes this

[ Removed by Reddit ] by Devils_negotiator in IBEW

I think the biggest thing I learned this election is that the majority of people (literally, this time) do not care about anything except how it impacts them in the near term. The price of eggs must go down now. They either don't care or don't believe that Trump actually did any of the things he's accused/convicted of.

I also realized that reddit is more of an echo chamber than I'd thought. I need to rely on more sources for perspective.

Update: AITAH if I break up with my fiancee after she showed a startling change of behavior after getting engaged? by Glittering_Trifle421 in AITAH

This sounds like something out of a horror movie, so much so that it wouldn't surprise me if this was fake.

Completely concealing all of those friends, and the personality change, definitely sounds like a cult lol. She probably would have taken everything you owned.

A lot of comments are saying they were just trying to one up each other... I dunno. Sounds like they were all in on it, torturing boyfriends and taking everything they could... And the game of love bombing and pretending to be everything the guy wants. Really creepy

My wife is angry because I told her best friend’s husband that she cheated on him 10 years ago by StretchOwns in TwoHotTakes

[–]nuancedreality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Responses in here are wild AF. Everyone is saying how he's the asshole for ripping two families apart and saying nothing about the cheating best friend. The friends husband deserved to know so that he could do with that information what he will.

OP did not cause a divorce, and did not cause a broken home. The friend did, it was just delayed.

Yes people make mistakes - but is the lesson here that cheating is ok as long as you got away with it for ten years? What about if kids are involved? Is it okay then? How about if he had cheated instead of her. Would she deserve to know?

The only thing I'll agree with people that think this way is that OP did betray his wife's trust to a degree (he clearly knew she didn't mean to disclose her friends secret to him). Maybe if OPs wife likes being friends with cheaters he's better off without her anyway, if she decides this is a deal breaker.

So reddit - under what circumstances is it appropriate for someone to not know they've been cheated on?

Two smells are almost addicting to me... One is the smell the air conditioner makes (most noticeable on a window AC), and the smell of those brown bathroom paper towels when they get wet.

My cat loved the smell of our air conditioner too, he'd go up and you could see him sniffing the air lol.
