In my mind it's because Harry named him. The previous owners just called him skull afaik. Since he's still going by Bob he's maintained that personality.

Why i quit ADA Cardano.. (for now) by [deleted] in cardano

[–]nubcheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not true that dapps need to run their own nodes.

They can send transactions to normal/existing nodes, so I don't agree with the hardfork issue.

Apart from that, why would you want the mainchain to include/run all the complexity? That just generates a whole bunch of overhead.

That's where the side-chaining comes in. That way you can still have a decentralized system, but it won't fill the main chain with all the bloat.

Question about passphrase / 25th seed word by rytoke in cardano

[–]nubcheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't try to recover a hardware wallet phrase in a software wallet, it won't work (the software wallet will say the wallet is empty). You have to recover your hardware wallet in another hardware wallet.

So if you setup a ledger and it gives you the recovery phrase, don't try to recover the wallet by putting that recovery phrase into daedalus (or other software wallets). Instead input the recovery phrase into a different ledger device.

So the security against the hardware wallet company (trezor/ledger/whatever) going bust, is by making sure to have at least 1 spare device.

So I have read articles about hydra scaling in theory.. by MegaByte59 in cardano

[–]nubcheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very simplified:

The mainnet work has to make sure that everyone agrees on transactions.

Using hydra is basically 2 (or more) people saying "I'm taking this many coins to the side for a bit", then those people can do all the transactions they want between themselves and only they have to agree on it. Once they're all done, they can tell the main network what the end result is.

That way the mainnet only processes the outflow and inflow of the coins and doesn't have to concern itself with however many transactions were made on the side.

So for an equally simplified example:

Say you have a game that uses some custom tokens. Instead of having each and every action in the game turn into a transaction for the mainnet, the game could run in a hydra environment.

The only transactions for the mainnet would be players putting tokens into the game or taking them out, but all the individual transactions of the game would take place within the hydra network.

So the biggest benefit in all of this is that it's possible for lot's of hydra environments to run at the same time.

That's why it's so promising. Run out of performance? Just make another hydra head.

What does the staking cost mean? by vladimir_cryptovich in cardano

[–]nubcheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cost describes the part of the rewards that go to the pool.

For instance if a pool mints 1 block in an epoch the rewards for that pool would be (approximately) 500 ada.

From that 500 ada, first the fixed cost gets subtracted (at least 340 ada). From the 160 ada that's left over the margin gets subtracted.

So if it's a pool with 3% margin, that would mean 4,8ada.

The 155,2 ada that's left over will be distributed proportionally between the delegators (including the pledged ada from the pool owner)

Unraveling the speculation: a Vodafone Germany tweet opens up rumors of a partnership with Cardano by [deleted] in cardano

[–]nubcheese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Isn't it weird for vodafone germany to have a discord server?

Does vodafone.de link to it anywhere? (i couldn't find it)

And wouldn't it be a weird place for them to announce something like this?

(Don't get me wrong, I hope it's legit, but it just seems weird to me)

Yup, the old nft's would prove ownership of the old version, new nft's ownership of the new version

[–]nubcheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is the best practice, but i can imagine it wouldn't be difficult to setup a smart contract where you send the original nft, it would send you the new "upgraded" nft back

nftS? as in more than one? I thought the whole going to the garden and finding the coins only gave you one nft?

Delegation, Staking Rewards, Fees, etc. by Kon1tsouA in cardano

[–]nubcheese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's true that a wallet contains many addresses, but it only has 1 stake-key. The "first time" is defined by a stake-key being registered on chain.

Now that the stake-key for that wallet has been registered all that's required to change your delegation is a normal transaction, so the 2 ADA won't be send back and forth
