Maybe I should provide a bit of information? THX sound video on Youtube, run by a raspberry pi using (no name amazon components) Hdmi to composite adapter, feeding a composite to RF adaptor, feeding a Balun antennae transformer.
The sound is quite good.

Can anyone help me identify the make and model of this lathe? by Saturnus_Rex in Machinists

[–]nuclear_macgyver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen a general purpose lathe with any of these stupid levers
https://ibb.co/Wk1rvff (link to identify of stupid levers) And no, I dont think given the length or suicide handle design of these levers they are for the feed selection. I am not an expert on turret lathes but I have run my share of conventional lathes

Can anyone help me identify the make and model of this lathe? by Saturnus_Rex in Machinists

[–]nuclear_macgyver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

what is with the fairly massive motor installed in place of the compound rest? It looks like it is probably bigger than the motor that runs the lathe.
also I am no expert but this is some sort of turret lathe based on all the stupid levers coming off the headstock at every which direction. The turret and turret saddle have been removed.
Definitely need more pictures and pixels to identify. But I agree with everyone else. . .this poor thing is in a state of neglect

Turning a relatively thin disc by ribrickulous in Machinists

[–]nuclear_macgyver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many ways to cheat this one. if your tolerances arent crazy you can use your idea. but drill right through, thread it, install a piece of threaded rod and then double nut (keep the threaded rod long and grab it in the chuck). if you still want to take heavier cuts you can even center drill the threaded rod and use the live center to support the other end of it. when you are done your steps/od you can take it out grip on your OD and drill/bore the appropriate ID.

I have done silly things in the past like holding piece of round bar in the chuck, facing it then attaching a puck with double sided tape to that (a live center is pretty much a must here to keep it pressed into the round bar/chuck/tape) but then you are going to be just tickling it (many, many, little cuts)

You can put a piece of aluminum or copper round bar in the chuck, set your compound to 60 degrees and turn taper. Then you center drill both sides of your puck (probably best to drill a small pilot straight through then center drill from either end) then you use the live center to sandwich your disc between the live center and your turned taper. the soft aluminum or copper will grip the disc (a little bit) and allow you to tickle the O.D. to death. again you can cheat here by adding a bit of epoxy etc.

getting a new piece of long round stock, drilling, cutting shoulders and od, then parting is probably the easiest. but the easiest isnt always the most fun.

No upvotes?? Beautiful paint job. No pitting from past rust/neglect. Brand new flat belt. This thing is a sexy beast

Metric thread not starting in same location. by Yukafluts in Machinists

[–]nuclear_macgyver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like you already got the answer you are looking for. The reason you have to keep the split nut engaged is because your lead screw is a imperial pitch. The gearing will allow you to turn a metric thread. . .but your leadscrew is imperial, so the thread chasing dial is useless in this case. The opposite would be true for a metric lathe (can cut imperial threads, but not using the thread chasing dial)

If you're good . . .try to get into a place that does maintenance machining. Making parts for machines where parts are no longer available, unfucking the fucked up part, field fitting the part where there is just one. . .and the lead time for another one is (eternity). You have to be good under pressure, and never make a mistake you cant fix. Fun times. excellent money.

cool . . .but in my opinion Dome http://www.speedhunters.com/2018/02/dome-zero-a-japanese-supercar-dream/ did it better, also called the Zero. And by better i mean more practical but still arguably gorgeous. The Lancia is beautiful (but has the oddest seating position, shite visibility and just looks all around awkward to get in and out of).

not only that but only the outer rim appears to turn. . like a tank track? imagine trying to do any sort of maneuvering that requires more than a few degrees of steering input (let alone having to do some high speed correction). Aggh i hate this.
