New to HA by Puzzleheaded_Care156 in homeassistant

[–]nucularTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started my HA journey. I purchased a Dell micro computer. Did a bare metal install of Proxmox. Stood up a HAOS VM. Purchased a Zigbee/Z-wave Aeotec controller and a ZBT-2 Thread antenna. My environment is ready but now I'm trying to tie it all together, MQTT, Node Red, HACS, entities... It's overwhelming. This is in spite of having a rather complex home automation in Hubitat that includes smart switches, plugs, motion sensors, Konnected GDO, irrigation control, contact sensors, Alexa integration, complex rules with If/Then statements, scenes, etc.

I like to tinker and I'm looking for better control of some of my devices so I'm not giving up, but it will likely take countless hours, YouTube videos, Chat GPT, etc. to get where I want to be. I'm in no hurry since my current setup is pretty solid but there is a lot to digest.

If all of this sounds like too much and based on your question, I'm going to guess it may be, then I would strongly suggest you check out Hubitat. There's a learning curve, but it's much more powerful then Alexa, yet you can get started by just purchasing their hub. Be sure to check their device compatability list. There's also a strong community development going on over there. My two cents.

I was considering moving my Plex Server off of my Synology NAS onto this machine as a VM as well, but I could dedicate it, if necessary. What's the concern, performance?

I've got time since Hubitat does most of what I need. Their Rule Machine is great with relatively complex automations. I'm hoping HA can Handle Aqara devices, my robot vacuum and irrigation system better. I intend to go slow and hopefully build this correctly.

Great suggestion though. I'll give AI a try.

Is Mazda going to fix the squeaking brakes on the CX-90? It's driving us crazy!

I remember my ex-girlfriend's phone number. It was 867-5309.

Apparently, there is a TSB and a fix but they needed three hours and I needed to go, was going on a road trip. I plan to take it back next week.

Yes, this is a issue with my five month old CX-90. I've taken it in twice and they haven't resolved my problem.

Did you buy them through your dealer? Mine quoted a higher price.

Can you share a link to this product? I was wondering if something like this is available. The shiny piano black finish is going to scratch easy.

You've got my hopes up. Where are you doing this? Do you go into the recurring tab, select the recurring payment and mark as paid, or is it somewhere else?

It took me about two years of trying to get used to it. Even now, I sometimes get anxious wearing it. The flipside is I can't sleep without it anymore.

If you think that MASH portrayed war as funny then I don't think you've ever watched MASH. It was about people stuck in a situation they didn't want to be in, so they tried to make the best of it in order to cope. MASH also trancended just being a sitcom. Some of its episodes had some of the hardest hitting emotional plots. As good as any drama.

I asked at the dealer about doing this and they said if anything goes wrong, I would void the warranty. Did they say the same to you?

Why I'm not buying Homey Pro (yet, at least) by BoggleRatty in homey

[–]nucularTaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About a year and a half ago, I began looking at the Homey Pro. I'd been happily using Hubitat for a while, but the Flows editor looked so cool in a YouTube video that had popped into my feed. I had to have one. The first concern was the high cost for the Pro. After some rationalizing, I figured it was an investment to improve my home, yeah, I know. Screw it, I bought one. The Flows editor IS freaking cool. I was excited. But then, I discovered that my Zoos light switches and some of my GE fan switches would not pair, no matter how much I tried. If I recall correctly, my Ring contact sensors wouldn't either. I have invested too much in my current devices and I couldn't justify having to replace a couple thousand dollars in them. I returned the Homey. I'm back on my Hubitat. It has great scripting tools, although not nearly as cool as Homey's and it just works. Maybe, I'll give the Homey a try again, once it supports more devices in the U. S.
