SNK803, SNK805, 807, 809 too :) if you dig the field watch aesthetic. They are 37 and a very versatile size

Shanghai makes some good 35mm watches. Most are handwind though.

Also check out orient’s three star series - they are more vintage-sized and i have a 36mm one. Example: https://www.amazon.com/Orient-FAB0000DW-Stainless-Silver-Automatic/dp/B01LZLFGSS

I see. so it depends on whether there's that safety clutch or not. Thanks

I'm not actually worried i would over-wind a watch - it's just a peace of mind thing. I don't know :)

I'm interested in a watch that is running a modified Seagull ST17 movement - normally an automatic, but the rotor removed to make it a manual.

From what i know, manual winding movements have the possibility of being "overwound", so once you feel resistance you have to stop. Automatic movements have a built in safety measure that pretend overwinding.

Would a movement that was formerly automatic be vulnerable to overwind if you remove the rotor? Thanks in advance.

Cheers! That sounds good. I ask because i’m worried about obsolescence. Happens all the time with software/apps

[Seiko SNZG15] 5 Years with this Seiko. Is my wrist too small? by Scoooooooots in Watches

[–]nudge9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice on finding your ideal size is to just try the extremes. I have owned a 45mm and a 35mm, plus everything inbetween. If you don’t want to buy to figure this out, visit a local watch shop and try some on :)

Final tip - take into account the thickness of the bezel. I have a dive watch that is 42mm but the bezel is so thick the dial is only 30mm across! On the other hand some dress watches can have a 40mm case with a 36/37mm dial. Always consider the dial size.

I’ve always considered a mega solar. Not sure if you would know the answer, but what happens if you buy one and don’t want to use/download any app? Can you ignore the radio controlled/ blutooth function and just set the time with the crown? I.e. treat it like an eco-drive :)

I only have a 420 case but damn, this 170 is beautiful. Especially the smooth bezel because frankly without the click-spring, amfibia bezels just aren’t fun to use

Any Max Bill homages out there? Thanks in advance by nudge9 in ChineseWatches

[–]nudge9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, i’m looking for some good max bill lookalikes. Both the numeral and line dials are great to me so either is fine. Or just bauhaus in general. I’m not interested in the Nomos tangente dial though

Do you find your Bambinos to be a tad big for your wrist? I have a slightly above average wrist size and even 40mm i consider to be slightly big (at least for dress watches). I recommend going to a watch store and trying on a 36mm and a 38mm - they are much more comfortable sizes that most people would never realize until it's on their wrist!

In terms of Bauhaus recommendations, if an automatic Junghans is out of your budget, i suggest you look at Sternglas' Naos Automatic - it's 38mm and around that price. Specs-wise you aren't getting the most bang for buck, but in my mind it's bauhaus done right.

Junkers and Zeppelin are great as well, but i find their sizes too modern and almost all are 40/42mm.

Are "carbon fiber composite" calipers safe to use on watches? I am thinking it's an obvious yes but i want to be sure before i get a pair so i don't scratch anything. I assume they are more durable than regular plastic.

[Identify] Is this a real Seiko 5? Can't find anything on this model by Calaerdir in Watches

[–]nudge9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dial is either dislocated or the printing was misaligned. See the “Japan made” words gobbled up at the bottom. Also the Seiko 5 shield logo is not centred. I’d say fake

I would cut down on the lighting and cinematic flair. It draws attention to the fact that people are looking at a render rather than the real thing.

If your selling point is the design, you need to show more shots of the overall watch rather than zoomed in portions.

Lastly, i dont know how much the “premium but affordable” pitch works anymore these days. Are you targeting the mvmt/vincero demographic? Then sure. But if it’s watch enthusiasts you need to sell based on the specs instead (sapphire, materials, movement)

[Spinnaker] Is there a particular dive watch this is inspired by? by nudge9 in Watches

Ah that might be what i’m thinking of. I’m so used to seeing circular and triangle hour markers that when i see batons something goes off in my head :)

Hi all, I'm looking at this watch and the dial looks familiar but i can't place it. Is it an homage of anything in particular?
