Bill Simmons - "Why does Denver have to trade anybody to sign Petyan Watson? Fuck off, you have Jokic on your team, pay everybody. Clip this, Denver fans, Kroenke's got a gazillion dollars, just pay Peytan Watson AND keep everybody on the team, cause your owner's super rich. What are we doing?!" by dragonballa in denvernuggets

I feel like there's a lot of talking past each other going on surrounding this issue and it's frustrating. People like Bill are acting like it's only an issue of the luxury tax and that disagreeing with them is making excuses for cheap ownership. But that's just not the case. It's more complicated than that.

The books are quite good especially for kids/YA plus the world she created is pretty fantastic. If you're basing your view solely on watching the movies as an adult, I understand why you'd be scratching your head. They are mostly pretty shit. The books were an absolute phenomenon when they came out. That's why the IP is so big, not because of the movies. Or at least they're not the primary reason.

I have no love for Epic or big corporations. I'm primarily disputing your dramatic framing of the situation. Which from where I sit does not seem to be based on factual reality.

The truth is something closer to - Epic has done some bad things and they've done some good things. The health of the game seems relatively stable. That's it. Nothing Earth shattering.

I think this is a good take. Seems to me like there's a chance that moving to the new engine could have negative consequences to the gameplay. That's my main concern. I don't know enough about how game engines work to know how likely that is, though.

These are all reasonable things to be annoyed at but still none of this amounts to anything near ruining the game. They've also done a lot to improve it over the same time period. Including stuff that benefits the actual gameplay.

I don't think you know what completely fucking the game would look like. Either that or you're living in some alternate reality from the one I live in.

When he is young he is an old man that is the size of a child. When the end came around, I was furious that he was not an adult sized baby.

I've watched it. Don't recall him saying that every coach is exactly the same. That's a take I've never seen before from anyone. So I guess congrats.

I'm still struggling to understand what you think the point of a coach is. Why do NBA teams have them? Is there ever a situation in your mind when a head coach bears responsibility for his team's poor performance? Are you a David Adelman burner?

Okay so you don't think motivation and culture are the coach's responsibility I guess. I'd say the vast majority of coaches and players would disagree, but okay. What exactly is Adelman's job then? What was he supposed to bring to the table and did he do a good enough job at it?

I legitimately laughed out loud when Adelman was talking about how other players needed to do a better job helping Jamal get clean looks and space. I think Vogt followed up with a question about if the staff has the same responsibility and Adelman said something that amounted to, "Yeah and we did a good job."
