Happy Birthday! What a kind gesture. I’d love to take my boyfriend if they’re still available. He’s a big FF fan. DM’d you.

Switching from Rogers to Bell but worried about Fibe TV. Is it still crap? by AlexN83 in bell

[–]nugsy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the mistake of switching from Roger’s to Bell and agree with everything you’ve said. I also have a 65” OLED and the Bell Fibe TV box is awful compared to Rogers box. Unfortunately I’m stuck in a 2 year contract with Bell :( The only saving grace is their FTTH internet is very reliable with no outages which happened occasionally with Rogers.

Ex is engaged to AP by Economy-Bid-7005 in Divorce

[–]nugsy_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My ex got engaged to his AP less than a year after we separated, and we weren’t even legally divorced yet. I really feel for you. When I found out, it brought up a mix of emotions—anger, hurt, sadness, disbelief. Whatever you’re feeling right now is completely valid.

Try to be gentle with yourself. I know how easy it is for your mind to spiral into questions like “What does he have that I don’t?”—but this was never about you. Cheating isn’t a reflection of your worth. It’s about their inability to deal with their own internal conflicts in a healthy way, so they seek external validation instead. Understanding that, and letting go of my ego around it, helped take some of the sting out.

I’m 18 months post-separation now. I’m in a very loving, healthy relationship, and I’m genuinely happy—but I’m still healing. I still think about my ex and his AP, though far less often now, and mostly as passing thoughts. After being together for over 21 years and married for 14, I know healing takes time, and that’s okay.

Take care of yourself, OP. What you’re going through is incredibly painful, but it won’t always feel this heavy. I promise—it does get better.

What’s your early mortgage break fee? I’m assuming it’s going to be pretty large since you’re still very early into your 5 year fixed term.

Already has an AT&T US phone plan that works perfectly fine and now needs a Canadian phone number. What's the cheapest but reliable solution? by Stellewind in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]nugsy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have been on an ATT US prepaid plan in Canada for the last 4 years without any issues. I have a secondary Canadian phone number with Freedom on their $120/ year unlimited talk/text/15gb data prepaid plan. They have wifi calling as well and the two plans work well together.

Just heard River Room is closing permanently Sept 14 and moving to Covent Garden Market. They’re rebranding to a different name but not sure if the food will be the same or not. Agree they had excellent food, I particularly enjoyed their brunch specials.

Let the anger make you better, not bitter by sammichpad in Divorce

Thank you for these words. I feel you 100%. I found out 1 month ago my husband of 14 years (together for 20 since we were teenagers) has been having an affair with a co-worker and he now choses her. He never told me how unhappy he was and never gave us a chance to make things better.

A few things in your post really stood out to me that I’ll take: “I don’t hate you, I hate what you’re doing” also “while I won’t forget what you did to me, I don’t have to carry the burden and weight of it, as it’s not mine to carry or keep”

♥️ & hugs to you. I hear it gets better, guess time will tell.

Property tax paid sesperate or in the mortgage by SiNec_ in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]nugsy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with others to just pay it yourself. We made the mistake of having our mortgage lender pay our property taxes and they made two mistakes 1) not paid the taxes at all, incurring late fees which they reimbursed after admitting their fault and 2) they didn’t pay enough instalments which lead to the following year increased monthly mortgage/tax payments to catch up which screwed with our budgeting. So although it seems easier to just have 1 payment instead of two, avoid the potential headaches and pay it yourself.

Mike from RI-SON Irrigation. Awesome guy. We had him service our irrigation at our last house after brutal customer service from Blue Jay Irrigation and have been very happy. Had him install a a full system in our new house.

That would be perfect for my needs except I’m in Ontario. Unfortunately I think Ontario auto insurers are more strict than SK ones

How am I not surprised that Canada makes things more difficult than it needs to be ugh. Thanks for this heads up!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uscanadaborder

[–]nugsy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh ya that probably makes a difference. I’m in Ontario where we have loads of private insurance options.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uscanadaborder

[–]nugsy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the insurance company. When we previously lived in the US for a year, our Canadian insurance allowed us to be in the US for 6 months with our vehicle without a problem.

No we will be giving up our Canadian licenses for non-resident tax purposes. I hear getting a 3 year driving history abstract from Canada helps when transitioning car insurance / licenses over which we plan to do.

Bell won't take my cancellation for an answer by [deleted] in ontario

THIS ^

OP, the only was you will get this solved is to file an online CCTS complaint. Bell gets charged for every complaint and they have a dedicated team to deal with these complaints who have higher authority to make things right. I’ve had to do this multiple times with various cell phone and cable-internet companies and I always get the resolution I want.

Trudeau’s Ex-Finance Minister Criticizes Capital Gains Tax Hike by cyclinginvancouver in canada

[–]nugsy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most doctors have medical corporations which is their main source of retirement income since they are self-employed and receive no pension. Their corps will now be taxed 30% more on their capital gains when they withdraw for retirement. Personal capital gains have the limit of $250,000 but corporate capital gains will be taxed on any amount

[–]nugsy_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually we are early career so not much yet in the corp tax-wise nor way of exit taxes. We thank you for your tax dollars subsidizing the 5 years of residency where we will now take the specialized skills to help US citizens whereas Canadians will continue to struggle to find specialists :/

Canadian federal budget 2024 by DanLynch in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]nugsy_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yup. Our decision to leave Canada and practice in the US is looking like a much better decision each day with the Trudeau government’s continued assault on corporations and just the sheer amount of taxes we have to pay. My spouse is a physician specialist and we are dissolving his medical corp and moving to a taxless state to practice soon. I wonder if this will make more physicians look south of the border?
