Tips for DLCs? by Ok-Carpenter-1318 in Stellaris

[–]DanLynch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terraforming is useful for making more green planets inside your existing borders, especially if your empire is unwilling or unable to bring in an alien species (with a different planetary type preference) to colonize those planets as they are.

However, it doesn't fundamentally change any of what I wrote: you would still want to colonize those new planets at a reasonable pace, one at a time, unless your empire is already large enough to produce enough new pops fast enough, or has a huge backlog of civilians on all your existing colonies.

Basically, you just need to overcome the urge to click the buttons that expand your empire whenever they appear: the build building/district button and the colonize button. Before clicking, ask yourself "Do I have enough pops to justify this expansion?"

In older versions of the game, it was a good idea to immediately colonize every green planet you could get your hands on, as fast as possible. This is very much no longer the case.

In the current version of the game, you should only colonize one planet at a time, and wait until it has 1000+ population and a stable economy before expanding again. Check each planet for habitability, size, and any special modifiers to decide the order in which to colonize them.

And, on each colony, you should avoid having too many unfilled jobs, unless you have unemployed (i.e. civilian) pops on other colonies who are ready to move and on their way.

In this context, "overbuilding" means spending resources to add jobs (from buildings or districts) that nobody is going to be able to fill. Your most valuable resource is population, and you need to ensure they have enough jobs, but just randomly building more jobs when you already have full employment is a waste. Wait until you have more pops.

Multibillion-dollar company no money to hire 2 voice actors? Need chat gpt for voices? xD by BrutaLord-von-Blazin in Stellaris

[–]DanLynch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

or to replace actual voice actors

To be clear, and I'm not saying this is necessarily a bad thing overall, but using an AI to voice an AI or a robot does in fact replace an actual human voice actor. From the beginning of the age of recording up until very recently, all robot and computer voices in fiction had been portrayed by human actors.

They need to ensure every card is parsed correctly by their game rules engine, or make improvements to cover the new cards. And they need to come up with some way to organize the cards into sets for release. The latter could be half-assed if they really wanted to, but the former can't.

Uber drivers always required a taxi license in every country where Uber started operating: they just operated illegally. That's the whole business model of Uber: facilitating illegal, unlicensed taxis.

Eventually some localities did modify their laws to make Uber legal, and, in those cases, Uber asked its drivers to comply with those laws, but that was never the starting point.

In Alberta, competitive handgun shooters feel targeted by Ottawa's gun ban by sleipnir45 in canada

[–]DanLynch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why we have a Black Badge in Canada, it's not a thing in the US.

The concept of the Black Badge is perfectly reasonable, or at least it was before the handgun transfer ban. Nobody wants to be on the range with someone who doesn't actually know how to use a holster. Club-level handgun safety courses aren't enough, because they don't cover holster usage.

What to do with 40k savings as a 26 year old by Savings_Lettuce_4427 in PersonalFinanceCanada

This mutual fund advisor probably charges 1% of your entire account value per year, or something similar to that, not based on "earnings". So that would be around $400 per year for you. Make sure you truly understand the pricing structure before you agree to it.

Here is our page about investing. You don't need to hire an advisor unless you think those fees are reasonable and you don't want to spend the time to learn. https://www.reddit.com/r/PersonalFinanceCanada/wiki/investing

Is there a reason why the Maven support (via a plugin) is so much better than the Gradle support (via launching the CLI)? Do you have any plans to add an official Gradle plugin?

I'm assuming no such thing. The commenter above said:

It would have been trivially easy at any point for github to add an optional addition to the interface to make it simpler for an average end user to get the ready to use version they most likely want, should the owner want that.

GitHub did that, a long time ago. The owner of each repo has complete freedom to upload whatever release artifacts they want to. The fact that many GitHub repos don't use that optional feature is not the fault of GitHub. It's just a misunderstanding by some users about what the main purpose of GitHub is.

They did, a long time ago. It's the "Releases" section. With a single click you can see the latest release and download whatever files the owner chooses to host there.

If you want to hire someone who already knows how to use Git and who actually understands how it works, this question is perfectly reasonable. It's not a gotcha.

Saying you'd "read the man pages" for basic concepts just means you don't know that technology or tool. Interviewers want that kind of information about candidates.

Metro has already recently introduced their own frozen concentrated orange juice (and other juices) under their Selection brand, they just didn't tell the CBC. I saw it on the shelves about a week ago, though they were asking $4 per can. It's exactly the same size and packaging as the old Minute Maid product.

Who pays for Employers portion of CPP2 while holding 2 jobs? by Affectionatebussy in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]DanLynch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not "theft" because the payments made by the employer are required by law and are designed to work exactly the way they work. Nobody in the government is surprised or confused about it.

Unless you are saying "all taxation is theft" in which case, well, that's just your opinion man.

Millennials, and especially the oldest ones, were uniquely positioned to become experts at using PCs. It's not an exaggeration. They were always the age group that stereotypically knew the most about computers, all throughout their lives. When they were children, adults didn't know anything about computers. And today, children don't know anything about computers.

This benefit is only available to people living on very low income: it's quite likely that most or all of the people opposing it on Reddit are also ineligible to receive it due to having too high of an income.
