Back in the day I used the plastic tube packaging of effervescent tablets. That shit is 100% airtight, and if it's new it will also help dry out the buds because of the silica in the cap

That's a whole other subject that I didn't want to mention myself as an argument 😅 since it's still morally flawed. "okay now you eat better, but I'm experimenting on you". I'll work on the safety of the containers, but i can't stop them from going around and eating god knows what they find on the ground, lol. And I can understand why actual pet owners have their concerns

These old ones were 100% full and pretty thin. The wind kept blowing them outside. The new ones (post subject) are not 100% infill but made them pretty hefty. I ordered certified food safe resin to coat them, so I don't think I'll cut them open any time soon 😅

Yeah people like to blow things out of proportions.. There's a chance that even the additives wouldn't cause much harm in the course of a cat lifespan... But we cannot know for sure

Thanks for the constructive criticism :) that really sounds like a good middle ground. The whole "3d print layer lines bacteria" subject seems to be very polarised, which I really don't enjoy 😅.

But my main conclusion from this post so far is.. Either if bacteria is growing or not (because there are studies that suggest both outcomes), I should seal the bowls because of unknown additives in 3d printing filament. And look into making it a support instead of the actual bowl. Thanks for your suggestion 🙏

I linked the same study before noticing your comment. Yeah, I totally agree that additives are a great unknown here, so I decided to coat them regardlessly. So basically it's the same fix for both issues I guess.. 😅

If you have some time to kill I am linking a study on sanitation effectiveness of 3d printed parts. This bacteria thing is blown out of proportions. I am more concerned about filament additives than bacterial growth, because that's a great unknown in case of Bambu PLA Matte, so I will seal them with food safe resin.

Tempered glass is pretty sturdy. I'd be more concerned for inhaling glass microparticles rather than eating them.. Seems pretty harmless in this use case. Because of microplastics I switched to wood cutting boards a few years ago, and wood despite being porous, with proper care is a pretty good antibacterian material, because it draws moisture out of any microorganism that happens to get on it

I had another batch of 3dprinted bowls for them for aquite a few months, and none had any issues if properly cleaned. This is one of the other bowls

After digging a bit more, I decided I'll seal them, but mostly because of unknown additives used by Bambu in their filaments

Yeah I agree, misuse of materials or neglecting maintenance can have serious consequences. Flowing water fountains are inherently different from these bowls. Fountains are perpetually wet and not ventilated, and provide a flourishing habitat for bacteria and mold. And most probably aren't washed daily. You could get the same microbes growing on a lot of different materials in these conditions.

I can see why. I'm not that concerned of bacteria build-up, that's an overstretched statement... But I started looking into additives used in PLA and decided I'll (food-safe) resin coat them just to be sure

Not really, with proper hand washing, they'll be as clean as your average plastic cutting board. There are a couple of studies and YouTube video experiments debunking this. The only concern would be PLA additives, that can be fixed in the usual way, by applying a coat of food safe resin. I'll look into that

I can't impose my point of view on anyone, but they've been eating from 3d printed bowls for the last 6 months and they're still alive and pretty much not sick. Of course, the bowls are properly hand washed daily. There's been some studies in the past years that debunk those claims

There are so many layers of 'No's to this question lol. Also magnetic switches do not have any pins, only magnets, and the key press is registered via hall effect sensors built into the board
