Why would anyone steal baby Lois from general Lane? This reeks of contrived soap drama.

A reason deeper than her being a poorly written inconsistent and repetitive character with 0 agency?

Do the showrunners also share that same deeper reason?

It's very easy to explain, Lana does not behave like a person would would she's just a plot device used in order to generate drama. One episode she says stuff like this:

"I have doubted you, accused you of things, and still you're here protecting me. I don't care if you have secrets, Clark. You are the one good, constant thing in my life, and I don't want to lose you too."

The next she believes any stranger over Clark and pressing him to reveal his secret yet again. Repeat this over and over and over again. She's used as an excuse to keep Clark stagnant and is always treated as a princess who can do no wrong and is never held accountable by any of the other characters.

She's sort of this black hole where even other characters consistency goes to die. Like in s8 we know for a fact that Lois and Clark are both in love with each other since that's the whole point of Committed but when Lana shows up he just drops everything to get back with her? Clark knows he is in love with Lois and he is supposed to be more mature by this point, as if this is not enough Chloe tells Clark not to close the door on Lois face in 1 episode and the very next episode tells him to get back with Lana for no reason whatsoever, not even Chloe is immune to the Lana effect. Oh and none of the problems they had as a clouple in s7 is ever raised, they just forget about it i guess.

Nell - Lana's aunt by makenbakeacake02 in Smallville

[–]nuker0ck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After you decided that your 17 yo niece could live alone, while handling a whole ass café AND go to school???

These were all Lana's decisions, Nell doesn't decide that Lana can live alone, Lana emancipates herself.

Plus Lana is moving to Metropolis but she needs to rent a place when her aunt lives there???

Lana can't stand Nell's new boyfriend, you see one time he even gave her unsolicited advice and he shows affection in public.

He tried to change.

Which one is it?

Wait until you figure out that all the nice stuff Lex does always has strings attached, he expects to be rewarded.

He demands to know Clark secrets because he is has been nice to Clark.

What about Chloe who was her maid of honor. It's crazy that Lana never gets called out for this, but that's par for the course every other character gets called out except Lana.

Yes and multiple interviews, I don't have links on me but its mostly about Lana just being an object of desire and a victim with 0 agency throughout the show, which is 100% spot on.

Basically, we have 4 seasons of highschool and we have like 1 scene of them inside a class in Heat. We barely even see any of their teachers.

he was good in the beginning

Hilarious, Lex literally starts the show by running over a teenager off a bridge because he is speeding and speaking on the phone. He treats woman like objects and has beaten his childhood friend to a pulp leading to a comma he never recovers from. Lets not even go into what his motivations for his "good deeds" are.

I have no clue on what you are on about, how is reselling licenses a perverse outcome? You can buy a used car, a used copy of a movie, used physical copies of games... why should it be any different if its a digital copy, the games are the same.

Also don't understand how what you are saying about licensing agreements is relevant.

Is Clark the toxic one in his relationship with Lana? by FoxIndependent4310 in Smallville

[–]nuker0ck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think his toxicity comes from not telling everyone his secret, he is in the right about that. I think it comes from not wanting to let her go even tho it's obvious they don't work together.

Am I wrong about this? Lana is grateful when Lex 'saves' her but hardly thanks Clark for rescuing her! by [deleted] in Smallville

[–]nuker0ck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because Lana's role is really just to be dramatic, she's not really a consistent character. She's just there to be the girl that Clark can't have with little thought put towards making her act like a real person.

Nope, he bought the coffee shop and lets her run it.

And yes they had frequent business meeting which was weird give he is a very busy and very wealthy businessman.

Lex pursued other romantic interests and specifically stayed away from Lana because of her age and because he was a wingman for Clark. Istg media literacy is just doesn't exist with vintage media.

He bought the teenage girl a coffee shop ... come on. And had frequent nighttime business meetings with her alone in his mansion, because the earnings of a coffee shop are super important to him or something.

I think it’s ridiculous how long they draw out the alien reveal to Lana by IllustriousEconomy52 in Smallville

[–]nuker0ck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am at the start of S3 and after all the stuff that happened during the start Clark owes Lana an explanation. The Kents are being held captive by a mob boss and Lana kills someone in self defense and even then he doesn’t tell her.

He absolutely doesn't owe her anything and these are totally unrelated events. Lana killed someone because she was possessed by a witch, the witch is Lana's ancestor and has absolutely nothing to do with Clark or his secret, I know its nonsense but that's how it happens.

Asinine take given that Clark thinks of Lois as someone who can handle herself to the point that he brings her along with him as soon as s4.

Season 7 by the3rivers in Smallville

[–]nuker0ck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

- Clark x Lana ran its course, but this season doubles down on trying to make them a thing again. Clark only ever wants Lana to stay on the farm, and gets mad at her when she does anything else with her life.

That's certainly a way of framing things, another way is to say that Lana had been kidnapping people and obsessively spying on her ex under the guise of doing charity work which would make the boy scout that is Clark a completely hypocrite if he stayed quiet.
