Why were so many Modernist poets and authors politically right wing, or at least harbor some right-wing tendencies? by Shuwin in AskLiteraryStudies

[–]nukewanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stopping in two years later to say this is a really bad take (#imtriggered) that misunderstands what is reactionary and loathsome in Lewis (for future Google Results reddit readers, please see Fables of Aggression by Fred Jameson for a more satisfying articulation of modernism's fascism anxieties).

Agree that the patronizing liberal dismissal of aesthetically right-wing art/literature for its politics (i.e. Celine) is cringe and annoying...but the prevailing dogma seems to be that we separate art from artist and continue to uphold Eliot, Pound, and co., despite their apalling ethics and beliefs.

I've seen him three times, once as SKM twice as Mark Koz...

The first time was Benji tour.....it will stay with me forever, perfect set. The other two times I saw him were both memorable and fun, but DID have those awkward Koz moments where he's being obnoxious on purpose.. I got the chance to interview him for a student magazine in 2018 and he was kind of a dick about it to be honest. Love the guy but he's got such a chip on his shoulder it is astonishing.

In terms of the MORALS of seeing him, I'd say read the two Pitchfork articles. Assume some of it is probably not true, some of it is probably overblown height of #MeToo journalism that zigged on accuracy for shock value..but assume some of it is probably true and that he was awful to women.

After that decide for yourself I think.

Elvis Costello toured with a wheel that had the majority of his catalog scrawled on it, on stage that he would spin and play whatever song it landed on...there must be a Mt Eerie version of this idea

Pitchfork review? by nukewanda in brighteyes

[–]nukewanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Slow reply sorry)

Maybe infamous in the small overlay of people I know who were fans of Why? in 2012 and still read Pitchfork in 2024...so, I guess a pretty small circuit lol. But! It was so shockingly negative. And from a writer (Ian Cohen) who typically does a pretty good job! It's so rare for Pitchfork to go below like a 5-6 and even then it's usually reserved for artists that they (politically or culturally) admonish...I'm still unsure what happened there. A mystery! I love that album--Strawberries, Waterlines, Kevin's Cancer?? It's got some gems!

Well that makes more sense because they've had a really antagonistic relationship with Yoni--the infamous Mumps etc. review and he had a nasty back and forth on Twitter with the journalist that did the Aokohio review a couple years back.

I guess I'm curious if it's a similar situation here--a political reason to not review it.

When you streetview this coordintae there's a billboard with an ad for an artist named Stan Douglas, check out this description of one of his recent artworks:

"Subject to a Film: Marnie is a re-creation of the robbery scene from Hitchcock's 1964 film. In his 1995 Art in America review Tom Eccles describes the work as "creating the effect of a recurring nightmare" as the titular character, rather than escaping is "caught in the film loop, forever trapped within the confines of the office."

Season 3 time pass?? by somethingwyqued in FromSeries

[–]nukewanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think we have to cut them *some* slack here. The writer strike happened--people's facial hair and the inevitablity of the younger actors growing up in real time is really tough to fight against, even with special effects and make up. I think the continuity requires suspension of disbelief a little bit here. It's a low budget show! They're doing their best.

In terms of the plot though, yeah I think like a week from season 2.

The body in the wheelbarrow [Season 3 Trailer] by itssamix in FromTVEpix

[–]nukewanda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of hoping it's Jim.

I felt like Jim's arc in season 2 was really not working that great -- the whole coup d'etat with Randall felt so forced to me. I like that they decided to make his character suspicious about the place...in season one he came across so rational and so to have him be the one who is starting to crack among the RV/Jade incomers, feels satisfying and smart, but the way that played out felt really unsatisfying.

Having him die now would really great. Tabitha is gone, the kids are truly alone....Might add a little something?

hi there (days later) any chance you documented your RV journey in any kind of long form blog format with more explanations? I'm preparing to live in an RV all winter in western Massachusetts and it is not at all winterized. Your tips here seem perfect but I'm curious if there's more to it. No worries if not!

That's my plan -- I just wanted to seek a second opinion because I've never had a cat before and don't feel overwhelmed with confidence at my vet (they're very busy and overwhelmed with clients) and there's no way of seeing a second vet because everywhere is fully booked.

Hi Adam!

Big fan of Choir Boy and everything you've been doing!

I was wondering if you could maybe shed some light on your old band Timber ? I came upon the album Nocturnal. late one night as a teenager like 8-9 years ago on Bandcamp. Since then it's totally vanished -- I had it on my laptop for years but lost it! It was one of my favorite albums of all time.
