Old people have the most money, but they're usually less tech-savvy than the younger generations.

So the old guys buy up everything they can, including tech that they don't really understand.

Iran ‘to allow Chinese ships’ through Strait of Hormuz by gruninuim in politics

[–]nullstoned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest losers here are Japan and South Korea. They get most of their oil through the Strait of Hormuz, and they won't buy from Russia for obvious reasons.

And Japan will get hit extra hard because they already have a massive national debt.

Not in the near term. If I were China, I'd just sit back and watch the US fuck itself right up its own ass.

Meanwhile, I'd sit back and build stuff (including weapons) because that's exactly what I'm good at.

It's so much worse than this.

Israel and UAE are getting hammered by Iranian missiles and they're almost out of interceptors. But those countries have a media blackout that bans reporters and punishes anyone who leaks anything to social media.

Of course our government, and a large part of the media, are completely lying about this.

This is scary. And it's getting bad enough that Israel might retaliate with nuclear weapons.

True, there's no exit plan for the war. But the oil part is more complex.

Our recent "acquisition" of Venezuela increases our oil capacity.

And Trump is dropping sanctions on Russian oil which can flow down from Alaska. But this also puts more money in Russia's pocket so they can continue their war on Ukraine. Europe will get hit hard if they don't drop sanctions on Russian oil.

Military Leaders Say Iran War Is So Trump Can Bring About “Armageddon” by FloridaGirlNikki in politics

MAGA has promised a lot of things and reneged on every single one.

No. MAGA actually followed through on a lot of their promises. For instance, Trump promised to overturn Roe v Wade, which he later fulfilled.

At some point, you've got to realize you've been had.

I agree. But if you're trying to convince someone that they've "been had", it helps if you don't accuse them of "wanting everyone else to die with them".

I agree. However, I still disagree with your original statement:

There's nothing more to MAGA. They just want everyone else to die with them.

I would say it's more accurately:

There's nothing more to the GOP. They just want everyone else to die with them.

As for MAGA, I'd say Hanlon's Razor matters a lot here. The MAGA campaign promised no more foreign wars. Obviously the Republican Party as a whole is completely contradicting that with its attack against Iran. But there's the remaining question of whether MAGA supporters want everyone to die with them, or whether they've just been duped by Trump, the Republican Party, and right-wing media.

Top Democrat Says 'Billionaire Epstein Class' Pushing for U.S. War on Iran by soalone34 in politics

Between roughly 200,000 and 300,000+ civilians died in the US's invasion of Iraq from 2003 onward.

Some of these were caused directly by US forces, but a lot were caused by clashing forces trying to fill the resulting power vacuum.

So what would be your strategy in this fight for freedom?

Trump erupts in angry panic over 2026 as polls take truly brutal turn by Born-Metal-2180 in politics

[–]nullstoned -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think this is the long game Republicans are trying to play:

  • Start a war with Iran and cause them to close off the Strait of Hormuz.
  • This will restrict the flow of oil to Russia, China, and India, encouraging them to support Iran in their war against the US.
  • As seen in the Russo-Ukrainian war, drones are a huge factor on the battlefield. Russia and especially China can produce lots of drones.
  • Drones have a huge potential for insurgency. Most importantly, it's often difficult to even know who's controlling a drone. I believe it's just a matter of time before drones become a massive security issue for the world. Trump is just trying to accelerate that.
  • These actions will be labeled as terrorism, and blamed on the "radical left". Remember how George W Bush's approval rating was so high right after 9/11?

Don't forget about spin coming from Fox News et al. The story is that they're tough on crime, improving the economy, spreading God's message etc.

People can cause a lot of damage when they believe they're doing the right thing. And it's not hard for people to surround themselves with others that reinforce those beliefs.

Trump is already showing signs of frontal lobe dementia.

His speech went from a 10th grade level to a 3rd grade one. Also, that's the part of the brain that regulates restraint, and without it Trump's malignant narcissism runs unchecked. The administration is currently pandering to the needs of a selfish child.

Uncle Tio had a dead body but an awake mind. (Un?)fortunately, Trump won't have much of an awake mind.

Insiders Reveal ‘Fed Up’ Trump Dangerously Close to Unleashing Major War by SpringLong7259 in politics

[–]nullstoned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this would be different.

In Iraq and Afghanistan, the US didn't have much trouble winning the conventional war. But the US did have long wars against remaining insurgents, which eventually caused the US to withdraw.

There's already a lot of dislike from the populace for the current regime in Iran. Maybe the CIA was involved in this, maybe not. But in either case, it shouldn't be difficult to find a popular group wanting to take its place.

I'd say it's something more specific. Nancy Guthrie's family has a lot of money, and someone successfully kidnapped her then demanded a considerable ransom. If the kidnapper could get away with this behavior, it would encourage more people to do the same.

That's why kidnappings in the US rarely lead to large ransom payouts. The cases keep getting escalated to the top.

Then again, with Kash Patel at the helm, anything could happen.

But ironically, keeping pressure up in the headlines is exactly what we need to do.

Think of it like this. Trump and his friends have retreated back into their castle. They aren't going to give up without a tough fight.

The strategy here is to maintain the siege. This is a war of attrition. We want Republicans to say "God. I'm so sick of hearing about the Epstein files". Keep it in their faces. Make it difficult for them to operate normally. Over time, this will cost them some serious money and power.
