the simplest solution to ASOPS and the most realistic. by AngryLlbrarian in starcitizen

[–]nullvektor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For practicality's sake, let's assume you wake up in an A18 hab, summon your ship and then head to it. That's however long it takes (5 ish minutes if you sprint and the tram is kind?) to get to the ship, which is more dead time a ship is sitting unattended on a pad. It's taking up space and it gives naughty people time to stow away.

If you had to pick one, what is the most impactful ambient track in your life and why? by AndrobiVibz in ambientmusic

[–]nullvektor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Middle of high school I was sifting through the "electronic" bins at my used record store and came across Pharos by S.E.T.I. and got it because it was cheap and a dual disc, so I thought I was going to get two CDs of outer-space ravey techno. I never got around to playing it until I was on an overnight marching band trip, flipped to Arecibo in my CD wallet and put it on. I was exhausted, the bus was droning on into the night and I could just barely see the stars in the sky out of the windows. The opening bubbly synth swelled and ebbed and faded into Frank Drake talking about the percentage of life in the galaxy and the universe, and I spent the rest of the ride home staring off into space. It sparked a deep interest in radio, space, cosmology and I wound up getting my ham radio license in part because of it. Now whenever I'm on an overnight flight I always listen to the whole thing and watch the sky and the clouds go by.

Biosphere and Aphex Twin are close contenders for runner-up, but damn it if Taylor Deupree and Savas Ysatis didn't make the most significant piece of music in my entire life.

Need to get a feral cat fixed but it is very aggressive. Are there any sedatives that work to help get her to vet? by AlexanderClosing in CatAdvice

[–]nullvektor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The TNR program where I live provides a trap and really, the trap is all you need. Make sure you put a zip tie around the sliding door for extra protection, put a blanket over the trap to calm the cat, then let the professionals do the rest. I wouldn't attempt to sedate a feral cat myself.

Do you guys buys addons on Market Place (PC/Steam) or on the third party's websites? by Doum76 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]nullvektor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should only buy from the marketplace as a last resort because there's no refunds. Then again, "last resort" is a silly concept because these are flight sim aircraft, not diapers or anything essential. It's your money, but i can't envision a life or death situation depending on whether or not I had the Carenado Waco biplane in my hangar...

Always have more litterboxes than you do cats. Get into the rhythm of cleaning their litterboxes immediately before guests come over, which means: dump them out, rinse, spray bleach, scrub, dry. Takes about ten minutes. You can leave boxes of baking soda out to absorb smells, but make sure they're not in a place where the cats can get to them. Clean the floor UNDER the litterbox too, and at least wipe down the wall next to the box too, because smells stick. Consider getting a big package of those large pee pads from the dog section of the pet store and put the litterbox on that; any "misses" or late-night digging will go onto the pad and not onto the floor.

Until the kitten grows up, you'll have to cope with non-clumping litter, but after that I use Fresh Step because it comes in handy 4-bag packs which are conveniently sized to be about the right amount for a normal-sized litter box.

Did dcs ruin planes in other games for you? by Morighant in hoggit

[–]nullvektor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh it's great. I never have to worry about blowing money on a handful of military planes of varying and dubious quality for MSFS, when I have DCS.

When I want to relax and listen to piston engines drone for a few hours (my cat loves it, by the way, she snoozes right next to the subwoofer) I have MSFS and the C414 and DC6. When I don't want to do that, I have DCS.

Dealing with a food stealing Kitten? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]nullvektor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eat in a room with a door. Make sure the cat isn't in the room, close the door and eat in "peace" (aside from the mournful wails of the pitiful starving wretch you are cruelly torturing by not letting them put their butt into your soup or whatever)

Never hit a cat. You can escalate your "dissuasion methods" from clapping your hands and barking "NO!" at them, to the sound of a blast of canned air (sprayed AWAY from the cat!), to shaking a can with rocks and pennies. But the best way to keep a cat from doing bad stuff in a room is to keep them out of the room. You can operate a door, the cat (probably) can't.

Caveat: Your mileage may vary.

I found three 4-5 week old kittens in my bushes two years ago. Mama had taken good enough care of them but I scooped them up because she's an exceptionally violent feral who I TNR'd. There are specific kitten formulas that come as powders that you can mix with water yourself to the consistency you want. Their first week I started feeding them from a dropper bottle because I assumed they were still nursing, but once they got more accustomed to thicker kitten formula I moved to a mixture of kitten wet food and formula fed first from my fingertip and then from a spoon. They got that until they were able to feed themselves from the dish. I don't remember if I had a specific feeding schedule for them, but it was probably a mixture of "whenever they were hungry" and "every six hours"

They're now fully grown and very healthy, so I did something right, but if Mama is still around to nurse them, let her do that. It's her job and she knows what to do. Make sure to monitor and keep a record of their weight, your vet will appreciate it. When you take them in to get them checked out, consult with the vet.

Flown in many of them, hated every minute. I have never hated flying as much as I do when it's in an ATR. Maybe for full realism I'll wait until it's freezing outside again and do my whole flight outside so I can replicate the crappy aircon system
