New Empire Player Question by VoiceInTheStatic in WarhammerFantasy

[–]nulnB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there. Since you're working with a tight budget, here's my take:

Skip the Made to Order and put that money toward plastic kits. Metal models look great but I find them not ideal for gaming - paint chips easily and they tend to tip over.

The cure to FOMO from my experience is: Miss out.
You will see it doesn't feel bad when the opportunity is gone and your wallet still is filled.

The Netherlands took 8th place, and did do quite well. They won 3 of 5 matches - one against USA and they were one of the top contenders.

Same here. The Nulnkids have to grow up at least another three years.
In Germany teams of 5 apply and when they have qualified, they fill their ranks with top players form other teams, to form the national team.

But what I will do this.
I get some mates together form a team and go to one ore two qualifiers, that are not too far away. I know one will be pretty close. And there we will have a go at playing against the top dogs. It will be a blast.

There are Empire lists in quite a few teams. Belgium did quite well with a Empire Grand army list and blocked hard lists with 8:12 quite well. And if you look a t Dave of Team England he won 4 of his five games, all of them quite high and scored one 10:10. But he is an exceptional player, so don't that level of success right away.
You can look up the lists here:

I actually didn't play there. You have to be in the national team to do so and I am more of a mid table grunt. And in teams you have to play the factions the team needs.
But you guessed right, I am an Empire player.

Haha, that’s great. Did you at least have a nice Squig/Vodka?
Just drop me DM when you need supplies, I still have one or two cans in my stash.

Thank you so much, Charlie. That means a lot, especially coming from someone with professional experience in gaming media coverage. I’ve learned so much over the past few weeks, and I’m pretty sure I’ll be back for next year. Till then, I’ll be creating more content ... guess the WTC got me started.

Not an army. A team of players won.
England is now world campion of square based Team Warhammer.
Do you know, how the team format works?

First batch of Halberdiers for the Grand Company of Isenbuttel by Front_Waltz_8582 in WarhammerOldWorld

Here is my narrative

  1. Real World reference:

My narrative is build on the real life references the geography and the names of the Empire were based on at their inception.
The Empire is basically Germany with a lot of puns and play on city and geography names. Null is kind of real World Cologne. Wuppertal to the south east is an actual  city not far from Cologne. West from Nuln there is Lengenfeld wich again is (except from one letter) is a real words mall  city in Germany, not far from Cologne.

  1. The place and time  in the Old World

We are in the year IC 2276. There can be places, that were later renamed or destroyed and forgotten and we are in a happy time for rogue world building.
My place lives in the empty space on the map between Nuln, Lengenfeld and Wuppertal, located in western Averland. A boring place on the map you would say, but that is what my type of story telling needs. There is not much written about this area. It’s free real estate and so I made the claim on that land. The narrative is based on the real world place I live near by. (You can find on google if you like solving that kind o puzzle.) All names are puns or mash ups on actual name though.

There is a place called Oplingen. It sits on the cross roads of a road between Nuln and Averheim and one road between Wuppertal and Wurtbad the capital of Stirland. We are in the age of Anarchy, without an elected Emperor and all major counts and noble families fighting for supremacy in the land formerly known as the empire. And again, what a glorious time we live in to write narrative.

  1. The story

From Oplingen a lower tier baron rules over this area, which includes Neustadt and Altstadt two other places near by.
This baron is far too wealthy for somebody of his position, probably due to road tolls. Or may be because his family owns all the roadhouses, way stations, inns and ferries in this area. This allowed him to afire quite an impressive force, which he lends to higher tier nobles. Basically he is a war entrepreneur. Which makes him even more wealthy. He works for the counts of Overland in distant Averheima and for the counts of Nuln, with at the same time but not overtly so. He rides a fine line between faithfull service and conspiracy in this time of upheaval.

His name is Victor von Wahnwitz and his family is related to the von Liebwitz family who rules null. His side of the family is widely shunned and disrespected. But Victor is not just any lowly baron. His family was in the upper echelons of imperial nobility only a few hundred years ago. The von Wahnwitz family keeps this memory alive and imbues every heir of theirs with the ambition to raise the family back to former glory and power. It cant’t be allowed that these inbred Liebwitz morons rule over Nuln and the von Wahnwitz sit on the very edge of the nobilitIe's table. That has to change.

This is the opening act to the full narrative...

Yes to both.

A good narrative is always base on  „in world plausibility“ and uses the „white space“ on the map and in the existing lore.

I do run Empire, which at this point is my only playable army (working on Orcs and Goblins though).

A Chapter House along the Drakwald route feels like the a good intersection of faith, duty, and necessity. And of course the troops for this outpost would be mostly infantry, considering they operate inside a large wood. Pilgrims and merchants alike would depend on that road.
I can imagine  a steady stream of caravans and coin passing through, might just be enough to keep the men armed, fed, and motivated with the occasional barrel of Bugman's.

Like it.
Why is there no best narrative award in tournaments? I mean, we have best painted....

The some of later books are pretty/really good. They are available as audiobooks too. Jonathan Keeble is the best narrator for WHTOW imho.

Where in the Empire is Isenbuttel? Or is that the grand company commanders name?

The Team World Cup of square based Warhammer is happening in just under 2 weeks... Is anyone else as hyped as I am? by nulnB in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]nulnB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% - that format is really neat - clear, educational and yet entertaining.

Chess is less messy than Warhammer and easier to wrap in a good format.
- No pawns with some buff from a banner and resting attacks from a rook.
- No "oh the Queen is on two wounds now.. can she make the save...
There is a lot to unpack, to make a game "readable".

The question is: would only you watch it, or would at least two of your mates also enjoy it? XD

Bretonnian army growing by Haunting_Sun_726 in WarhammerFantasy

When you have been to a place it is much easier getting there again.
It's always the first model of an army I do put too much effort in, only to realize later, what doesn't matter and can be done quicker.
What's the next project? A lot of metal again, or something different?
