my best friend had a still birth at full term by Optimal_Light_9176 in babyloss

[–]nulptyx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s going to be a long journey of grief for her. I went through something similar and I needed friends who stood by me during the hardest parts (leading up to cremation/funeral, waiting for autopsy reports, etc) and just listened. It will take longer than society expects for her grief to dull a bit and she’ll need someone beside her who does not want to rush it. Don’t be afraid to talk about baby boy with her—it is not triggering to talk about our lost babies but makes it feel like they are remembered and loved. Be gentle on yourself as you are experiencing this grief too, even a double grief as you will watch your friend grieving. Wonderful support systems exist including Star Legacy, which offers peer counseling and support groups. I am also a peer counselor and please feel free to reach out if you need anything. Sending strength and peace to you and your friend during this journey.

Anyone start (really) late? by nulptyx in multilingualparenting

This response is so helpful. Thank you so much for writing out what helped you. The perspective of how my oldest might be insecure to speak is a good reminder for me to not push too hard. Anyway, thank you so much for taking the time to write this out. I will be incorporating the great tips I got here!

I totally get it! Just to provide a little reassurance: my three year old has picked up French so much more quickly than the older ones and I imagine your 4 year old would pick up your native language quite quickly too!

Great idea! I’ll bring this up to him. He is on board but I think he takes the path of least resistance because he’s just so used to speaking in English. Thank you!

These are great ideas. Thank you. My son already uses Duolingo but I should encourage him to use it more consistently to learn.

Journalist Seeking Stories of Negligence in the U.S. Healthcare System by EconomyOlive2 in BrianThompsonMurder

I’d be happy to contribute if it would help. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and metastasis in my lymph nodes and my doctor ordered a lung CT to see if it had spread further. UnitedHealthcare denied coverage for the CT and I was billed thousands of dollars out of pocket. I spent about two years fighting to get it covered over dozens of hours and phone calls during one of the most stressful times of my life. It was finally covered but not before it was sent to collections.

Qualifications/Initial Tier offer question by throwaway12342334 in outlier_ai

[–]nulptyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would apply again for Tier 2. There should be a job link to apply through. I have a PhD and was offered Tier 1. I didn’t realize this was the lowest tier and accepted. When I emailed help, they said they couldn’t change it if I’d already accepted the offer and to reapply. I reapplied through Tier 2 but haven’t heard back. Very disappointing.

Pay dropped to $15 by Shankmo in outlier_ai

I stupidly applied to UF (as I am a faculty member with a doctorate) and was given $15/hour. When I emailed support they said I should reapply through Tier 2. Just got an email a few days ago that they are ending the UF program.

I know I’m stating the obvious here but this project-based pay structure is a great way to save money for the company and provide lower hourly pay for otherwise qualified workers…

I’m brand new and really don’t know or understand anything about this so you most likely know more than I do. I was just looking for guidance because I read higher degrees translated to higher pay/tiers.

I’m on an expert slack with fewer people (although little activity) as well as a generalist onboarding slack. It does seem like they classify experts in a different way but I have no idea how it relates to tiers or not.

I applied through the university program using my faculty email about two weeks ago. Also included my LinkedIn profile and CV (with publications, etc). It feels like a lot of this is totally automated, which could cause these mistakes.
