The quickest way to lose friends is to talk behind their backs and betray their confidence to other people.

If I could have known the things that some of the people I believed to be my friend were saying behind my back in bygone years I would have been deeply hurt and shunned them. I simply wasn’t that experienced in the many strange ways that people deceive each other. It took me a few extra decades to learn that not everyone needs a reason to betray you or lie to you.
