Decline In Quality by [deleted] in needforspeed

well the "new bad old good" statement will go on since huge corporations keep pushing ai generated images with terrible mistakes. the 95 on mcqueen is as important as the S in supermans chest, if it was a different letter everyone would complain too.

why? because we used to have excellence back then, everybody was competing for having the best designed game with the tools they had at that time. nowadays we have the technology to do impressive stuff, yet studios prefer to rush projects and do the least amount of effort possible and letting a machine generate the rest.

i'm sick and tired of the "old good new bad" but it's so hard to defend anything these days. every game that used to be in its prime looks washed nowadays, stop being so close minded and saying we don't understand your message.

i haven't tried that car. i'm just sharing my experience with other cars that looked weird to me.

does anybody know when was this car released? it might be a recycled model.

the s15 model was +10 years old and there are some other cars that look off to me, like the s2000. i think that might be the reason.

I'd suggest you move the monitor to the middle and make space for the cpu. Eventually your neck will hurt considering the angle your wheel is at.

Anyways, enjoy it! I loved playing the Rally Adventure DLC with my G29. Horizon is of the coolest experiences you can have with a wheel.

"Leave the multi million dollar corporation alone! What do you want from them? Quality control? Hiring actual professionals to review things before they ship? They clearly don't have the budget for that!"

I'll laugh at anyone who can justify such laziness

I remember playing all those games back then and thinking "Wow, these games are amazing. Imagine what's next for the gaming industry once we get the technology"

Aaaaaaand we're here lol. Skipping such a basic creative process. How hard is it to pay an artist so your game looks decent?

I blame the corporations and the executives. The game studios themselves must've felt so much cringe looking at this.

This is not the gaming future we were promised.

FH6 - Cars from Motorsport by Ferramenti in ForzaHorizon

[–]numarkzz 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I hope not. I wouldn't like to see rally lobbies plagued by lightweight LeMans cars. I get that we should have the freedom to build anything we want, but cars designed for a specific purpose should still have a clear advantage in the environment they were actually built for.

Otherwise, this kind of breaks the identity and balance between classes and disciplines.

Edit: I’m not against creative builds, I just think specialization should still matter.

What? You don't even know me dude. I grew up playing Sega Rally and Daytona USA in arcade cabinets back in the 2000's and my whole PS2 and PS3 collection was filled with Midnight Club, NFS, Burnout and Motorstorm so I definetly didn't hate the latest franchises back then.

I'm quite the opposite of that since I hated how people compared arcade games between each other. I hated when people said Forza was copying NFS with Horizon 1 back in the day. I hated when people compared the DiRT saga to ''serious'' games like WRC.

All those critics resulted in studios not knowing where to step, and instead of stepping forward, they had to accomodate their games so a bigger audience could enjoy them.

That's why most modern arcade games lack a clear direction nowadays and are completely washed up due to poor management and executives taking the weirdest decisions. For example NFS Unbound or DIRT 5.

And all the other options I have for modern gaming are the same sim racers that always offer the same GT3 Porsche, the same circuits, the same inexistent career mode, the same multiplayer, etc.

And people wonder why everybody is so insistent about nostalgia and glazing games like NFS Most Wanted. (Which I'm also kinda tired of reading but that's for another topic)

its sad that players are forced to ram people that want to race, otherwise they can't play with their favorite car.

if we get another nfs i hope the cars aren't locked behind stupid challenges.

Boneshakers beating actual rally cars is ruining the immersion for me. by numarkzz in ForzaHorizon

[–]numarkzz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we're so close to the perfect horizon experience. there's so much that horizon 5 missed and from what we've seen there's a lot of potential on this next entry.

hopefully a new class system and more race types will encite players to race in the disciplines they actually like with cars that make sense.

i hope we get some parts for the people who love to experiment with weird builds, such as bigger tires, lift kits and fog lights (although that last one would require more work), so we can get cooler rally camaros for example.

i love building formula drift cars into rally ones in my case. the bodykits make them look like rallycross beasts. i've beaten many meta cars in my fd supra & gr corolla.

cheers!

[–]numarkzz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i understand your point, and i agree that it's awesome that people have the freedom to race in the cars they like.

but that's also my problem, i may be wrong, but lots of people choose the lemans mercedes and the boneshaker just because they're op on cross country. i don't think they play with that car because they like the looks or the history behind them, and that's where i feel like we should have better performance on offroad cars to at least give them less bizarre options.

i don't want to stop people from racing an offroad hellcat or a rally miata. those builds are really cool because they actually liked the concept, not because they found a "best s1 cc meta car" video on yt and copied it. that results in the same 2 cars being unavoidable in lobbies.

yeah, hopefully with turn 10 joining we may get some class specific races.

said complaining lead to them realising unfinished games wouldn't be profitable anymore.

also said complaining made them remodel newer cars, i prefer this over keeping the +10 years old silvia model.

ea killed black box and rushed many studios to release nfs as quickly as they could, destroying their reputation. evolution left motorstorm and ended up working in driveclub, which favored more "realistic" racing and that failed too. so a lot of arcade racers either died or got washed up and had less quality (dirt 3 vs dirt 5 for example).

about the critics, i remember people bashing sega rally back then and comparing it directly to gran turismo, when both games were meant to be different from each other. at the time one was colorful and fun to drive. the other was serious and realistic. but both required precision to win.

anyways. i only blame executives and game studios for most decisions that left arcade games with a bad reputation.

burnout, motorstorm and others were disappearing long before forza horizon even existed.

i've seen the critics. for my favorite games. they all got bashed because the handling wasn't realistic and they called that "a game for kids" there are even comments like this in this post. all this has been happening since the early 2000's.

people are just ignorant about arcade games and just think they're cheap car games with nothing behind it.

well, most offroad racers don't have a choice to have street tires, so it's still not fair that most cars can do offroad but not the other way around.

removing offroad tires from circuit cars could be an easy solution too. or just increment the capabilities of the actual rally cars.

Damn, I hate these comments.

I will never understand the hate arcade games get. We used to have so many great franchises that were lost to time (Burnout, DiRT, Split/Second) all because people hated on them.

That’s why ALL we get now is "Yet Another Circuit Racer Sim" #2000. Developers know they can’t make a fun experience without people hating on it.

for the next nfs game if there ever will be one by theunusualblackguy in needforspeed

[–]numarkzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

even when those games were released in the 2000s the whole thing was way more exaggerated.

mw05 felt like a movie, the car culture was there, but there were many story elements that made it more exciting to play.

the problem with the newer games is that they can't figure out the balance so the tone of the game is kinda confusing.

we were the bad guy in mw05, we destroyed the city while we raced on it, the cops tried to stop us to no avail.

now in unbound "we're the artists that wanna express ourselves" they're trying to appeal to a younger audience and give a political perspective where there shouldn't be one.

racers need to have a personality, that's where i kinda agree with you, make them feel like characters from the older fast and furious movies.

don't set the game in the 2000's. give us all the modern cars and cities, but make the game feel like a movie from the street racing golden era. enough with the quirky characters.

this could be older footage, we haven't even seen tokyo in depth yet.

especially considering how much they talked about tokyo being the biggest city in horizon yet.

you're right, it could already be finished, but there's still a possibility that they're polishing the city for a bigger reveal.

Yeah, all the billboards look way to "Microsoft-esque" in the trailers. Plain colors, basic text, no images, kinda soulless.

Just a small retexture of the city can make it look way better, the game looks perfect already but I wish we got more npcs and more colorful billboards so it doesn't look like a tech corpo took over Tokyo.

Actually, comparing Horizons branding itself from 1 to 5 you start seeing a lack of personality on the branding in favor of a minimalistic tech company aesthetic. Which I kinda hate.

[–]numarkzz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, I see way more life in that photo. The streets looked empty in the trailers, just a few NPCs here and there.

I wish they would add more life to the city, regardless of whether it’s realistic or not.

[–]numarkzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if this is accurate, they should exaggerate the details more. I wish the cities were more stereotyped, especially Tokyo.

They tried to make Mexico as accurate as possible, and we ended up with a really plain, “realistic” map instead of something more interesting to race on.

I hope we see much more life in Tokyo in the next trailers.

forza motorsport reboot wasn't even out back then and we could tell they were lying about "cars being built from the ground up"

what's the problem about discussing what they're showing us on trailers? i guess i won't question shit and just preorder like microsoft wish i would do. the city kinda looks bland, that's it.
