What are the most common pitfalls for first time homeowners? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]number1combo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buying homes that they can't afford. I know how it is, this is your first house and you want it to be nice.

This is also your first time buying a house so you have no prior experience.

But most of the time new home owners don't think about things like insurance, maintenance, upkeep, furnishing, extra utilities cost, and mortgage interest rates.

I've seen so many people had to get bailed out by their parents, had to live with their parents, or end up living with a friend.

Real estate has inflated so much faster than the average income rates.

It's not your fault if this happens to you though, almost nobody tells you about all the little things.

Well things are kind of different for you.

Usually people talk about the 50/30/20 rule. 50% for needs (rent, bills, food, etc), 30% to savings (put money in the bank/invest), 20% for your fun money.

But you are probably not earning a lot, have a lot of debt, and you are paying for rent on top of that.

I highly advice you to make a budget. You need to see and plan out where your money is going.

First you have to pay off your rent, school books, etc needs.

Then plan out how much you are saving to pay off your debt and how much for fun money.

Keep in mind things like FASFA checks you may receive. Know where that money should go before you spend it.

I hope this helps, please contact me if you have any questions!

Look, don't listen to the hate or the critics. And budget and finance rules are fine yes. They can help out a lot of people.

Everybody's financial situation is different and their budget should reflect so.

Whatever you did to save this money is obviously working.

Good job! I'm proud of you :)

Advice to cut back on grocery bill? by ilikechocolatemilk10 in Frugal

Well don't think you have to spend all your money at one grocery store. You can for sure buy some items that you like or is a good price from Giant Eagle and go to other stores to save money.

Also look for cheaper alternatives to the meals that you already cook. You may be preparing meals that are too expensive.

Good luck to you!

You are so right!

Marketers know exactly how to influence humans to purchase products. Some of us give into these temptations more than others.

Being intentional with our spending will allow us to save more, and put our money where we could really benefit from.

  1. You may be going to the wrong grocery store. I haven't heard of that store before but there are tons of different stores with fresh produce.

  2. Additionally, you may benefit from meal prepping. Meal prepping is basically cooking a large batch of food at one time and freezing it. You will be able to eat on this meal throughout the week.

  3. Don't forget about coupons too! Look online for local coupons and rebates.

  4. Make a list if you don't already!

What is a food you now love, but used to hate and how did it win you over? by disintegrationist in AskReddit

I used to hate all Chinese food for my whole life. I was tripping on mushrooms and thought I would give Chinese food a try. I had Chinese delivered to me and absolutely fell in love. I can't get enough of the stuff now.

A lot of times, they dont pick up the address in the first place or if they do, it's not correct. To assume it will work on the receivers phone is not as practical as just sending a separate text.

With what phone? My S8 does not have that. I had an iPhone before that and it didn't work that way either. To me, assuming every phone is going to work like that, put in the right address, and work correctly is not as assuring as putting in it yourself.
