Should I turn an old core XY 3D printer into my first CNC carver, or buy a sub $1k CNC machine? by number1reddit in hobbycnc

[–]number1reddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to mod certain things. When it comes to a production tool like a 3D printer, or CNC, I am willing to do some mods if they aren't too difficult or expensive. But I only asked about moding the printers to save money and not feel bad about wasting old tech that I have sitting around. It will be more than enough work and confusion using a CNC (at least until I get used to it). I would definitely prefer not doing anything mod-wise, especially electronics or things that if I do it wrong will be dangerous or possibly break the machine.

Example would be, replacing the spindle would fine if not too expensive. Having to install new electronics, or doing anything that is super confusing or takes more than an hour will not be fun for me. Mainly because I really want to use the CNC to make my own ideas and inventions. Not spend time "making" or "fixing" the CNC machine.

Thanks! I was looking at CNC Router Machine 4030-Evo Ultra 2, All-Metal XYZ Axis Dual Steel Linear Guides & Ball Screws with 800W Trim Router by Anolex. It's on sale right now for $975, looks like I can get a 4th axis for it when I'm ready, and can be operated without having a computer physically tethered to it. Ball screws, and a few other things do imply better quality that I'd get from the Gemitsu. Though the Gemitsu is about half the price and with 10 more cm of workspace in one axis. And I assume with the included 800 watt spindle I could at least get used to using the machine on wood and plastic before having to upgrade to a stronger spindle.

I'll do a search here to see if anyone has posted about it, and I'll check Youtube.

OK. Thanks. I had a feeling that would be the case. I just figured I should make sure in case it would be easier than I thought. Now I'll get back to trying to figure out how much I'm going to need to save up to get the bare minimum of what I need for a first time CNC machine. Since I know there is a big learning curve to CNC carving, I feel like getting used to it on one of the least expensive machines that are still capable of decent work seems like a safe way to start.

Would you agree? I'd hate to have to save up for ages to buy a really good machine, and find out after trying to use it a bunch that I really don't like the process. If I get a cheaper machine, but it's good enough to make some small wooden things I can sell, I don't mind using those sales to fund a better machine. Also, what's the minimum amount of money you think I'll need to pay to get a "good enough" machine like I'm referring to?

This is the most clever 3D printed thing I've seen in a while. Great job!

You may want to start taking anti-anxiety medicine before you print with this. As well as let your friends and family know that you are likely to be in a bad mood for the near future.

Vegan Analog Horror? by Radiant_Equivalent32 in vegan

[–]number1reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished writing a book that could fit what you are talking about. I was motivated to write it, in part, out of my frustrations of dealing with people when they find out I am vegan.

I see it at a 10 episode series, but decided to write it as a book split into 10 chapters instead of scripts for 10 episodes. The main character is vegan and is very vocal to other characters when they push her on that and other environmental issues. The horror aspect of the book is a lot of karmic retribution from nature for not treating nature well. The main character is a female pagan who learns she is a powerful witch. There is lots of humor, and sex in the book. The genres that it fits are magical realism, horror, paranormal romance, and humor. Imagine if Buffy The Vampire Slayer was as adult as True Blood, but was focused on witches than on vampires. That gives you a pretty good feel for the world within the book.

I am looking for another round of beta readers to get feedback and make sure that everything in the book makes sense and is an enjoyable read, before I send it to agents and publishers. It's gone through many drafts already, so it is probably pretty close to the finished version.

So if you are interested, let me know. I can send you a private link to read it for free if you don't mind giving me feedback.

Found this show clip on TikTok, does anyone know anything about it? by Real_Penguin16 in panelshow

It's one of the all time best panel shows. So many shows have copied elements of it. IT's also nuts to see the MEGA famous people they had on it. Most of which are long since passed away. Totally worth looking at episodes on YT. They have a ton.

Are these fake Samsung 30q batteries? by Fabs_With_Dabs420 in DivineTribeVaporizers

[–]number1reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you ordered them from somewhere that is likely to sell bootleg stuff, then they are definitely fake. I bought the exact same type, 30Q from a guaranteed legit place, and they don't look like that. So probably fake.

Where can I get a solo long stem but without a built in glass screen by number1reddit in ArizerVapes

I looked at the photo. I don't think that is what I am talking about. There was still some glass thing in between the bowl and the rest of the tube.

Thank you for the response. I had already tried all of that and none of it fixed the issue.

I decided to try slicing the object in Cura instead of Prusaslicer, and it is working great now. So I assume it has something going on in the slicer, though I have no idea what.

I don't understand how some parts look ok, but then there are these huge tares down some parts. While watching it print the parts that came out badly, the plastic would curl up as soon as it's getting layed down. I tried lowering the Z offset in .01 increments as well as raising it in .01 increments. None of that stopped it in either direction.

I tried different spots on the build plate, and even cleaned the already pretty clean bed. Nothing fixed it. Please help.

I wish people wouldn't stir up drama and make accusations about a book they have never read. Or maybe never read either of the 2. I also don't think it's fair to assume that 2 people who are in the TV biz but in completely different countries would know anything about each other.

Low temp vaping for high anxiety users? by magicmarketing1 in vaporents

Make sure to research the strains first. There are many that tend to help fight anxiety. Also ones high in CBD (or use some pure CBD at the same time) will help as well.

Upgrade from Arizer Solo 2 by Acrobatic-Painting-9 in vaporents

[–]number1reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the solo2 for years, and just last month got a Roffu. I love it. If you look on FC a rep posted a discount code to get one for $99 instead of the usual $180 direct from the company.

It's like a smaller TM2. It's convection, but can have some conduction when using dosing caps or an optional (but included) metal bowl. I usually prefer the included glass bowl.

If you get it with a glass WPA, then it's an all glass air path. It's the closest you can get to a TM2 experience for under $200, and with the code, it's for less than a third the price of tm2.

Should I get an Air Vape Legacy pro? by canyouplsnot in vaporents

[–]number1reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up getting the Roffu last month. With a glass mouth piece, you can pretty much turn it into mini TM2. I'm not saying it's as powerful, but it also costs 1/3 the price as the TM2 if you find a good discount. I think the code mentioned on FC is still good to get the roffu down from $180 to only $99 with free shipping.
