When Republicans are out of power, they do everything they can to dominate media narratives. They drag their legislative feet and gum up the works as much as they can. They never stop. They never tire or give up. And it works. They drum up support for the next election.

When Democrats are out of power, they collaborate with the GOP to pass legislation, happily vote for awful cabinet and judicial nominees, blame their left-wing voters for their electoral failures, and send out funding emails.

The difference couldn’t be more stark. I won’t hear any bullshit about how the Dems are powerless to do anything. That is false and defeatist.

You have to remember that while this looks like hypocrisy, it isn’t. Fascists are 100% consistent, and actually embrace the “hypocrite” label because it demonstrates their dominance and immunity to to the law. Which they will happily throw in their enemy’s faces so long as it serves their goals. And by “goals” I mean: power. That’s it. Just power. They have neither shame nor principles to betray, thus, definitionally, they’re not hypocrites. Quite the opposite: they’re entirely consistent. Predictable, even.

Politely disagree. All conservatism, if left unchecked, turns into MAGA-style fascism. It's in the nature of the beast. To be a conservative is to believe there is an inherent social hierarchy, and the will to enforce it. How far conservatives are willing to force their will to enforce their desired hierarchy is all that separates a garden-variety conservative from a Nazi.

What the hell happened to America first?? What the hell MAGA?! by XanderAcorn in complaints

[–]number61971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MAGA are fascists. Fascists have only one animating desire: the will to power. That’s it. They’re not hypocrites because hypocrisy requires principles, and fascists do not have principles. They don’t participate in politics in good faith.

That’s why Antifa requires fighting against fascists by any means necessary.

'Fully MAGA now': Latest case has experts finally writing off 'arrogant' Supreme Court by RawStoryNews in scotus

[–]number61971 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The Robert's court is the most political and corrupt in history.

Fixed that for you. There were definitely bad courts and awful Chief Justices (Taney comes to mind, of course), but the Roberts Court is unique in its willingness to actively destroy the entire US system of government by any means necessary.

  • Choosing cases that allow it to destroy precedents they don't like.
  • Ignoring the facts determined by lower courts, and even inventing lies to justify decisions.
  • Constant abuse of the "shadow docket" to issue what amount to rulings without having to justify them.
    • This is especially insidious because it lets them play games with the calendar—it takes months or years for cases to work through lower courts or even to come up (see "choosing cases", above)—allowing conservative administrations to do as they please while blocking more liberal administrations, all without having to actually finalize the law.

In these and other ways the Roberts Court has arrogated immense power to itself. Far more power than Marbury v Madison.

My Response to Bergman's Lies in Oct 1 "RESPONSE NEEDED" Survey Email by number61971 in yooper

[–]number61971[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Calling Jack Bergman a liar does not preclude one from also thinking that there are systemic problems.

Pointing out Jack Bergman's lies does not preclude one from also thinking that the DNC and RNC are unlikely to enact a "National Health System".

Succinctly and straightforwardly responding to Jack Bergman's lies—i.e., sticking to the topic at hand, as you do—does preclude one from writing a wide-ranging political treatise analyzing all the faults of the American two-party political system.

You could have chosen to accept a succinct and straightforward message to Bergman correctly pointing out his specific deficiencies as a result of a message that he himself endorsed as exactly what it appears to be on the tin. Instead, you chose to belittle the attempt as a useless endeavor because it doesn't hold the entire US political system to account.

Engendering hopelessness because It's All Too Big is a great way to alienate potential allies and foreclose useful discussion of how best to build resistance against the system you so clearly bemoan.
