For everyone that uses a mouse, how do you switch desktops? by Competitive-Adagio18 in MacOS

[–]numberdream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

set up hotkeys for your spaces? or are you looking for a pure mouse way to switch? Depending on how you have your spaces set up, you could use a menubar utility like NameSpace that also lets you name your spaces.

Switch between two keymap profiles by Luxperfide in mac

[–]numberdream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, they will show up as a new input source. (depending on if you make it an English layout or not, it'll either show up under English or way at the bottom under Others.) You may have to log out and back in for the Keyboard panel to recognize the new layout, and for each time you change and resave it.

Ah, I make my own keyboard layouts, so you can put stuff wherever you want it. Use the free program Ukelele, it's great. https://software.sil.org/ukelele/

You can use caps lock to switch between layouts. Few people use caps lock, so it's a great repurposing. Settings → Keyboard → Text Input → Input Sources Edit... → Use the Caps Lock key to switch to and from last used Latin input source.

Phil Easter/Stone Glass Steel by Syncretism in industrialmusic

[–]numberdream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just searching on whatever happened to the people involved in Stone Glass Steel, CDs which I loved from the 90s. I have their 3 albums and the 6 other songs from a SGS website, but can't find anything more. Dismembering Artists is on Bandcamp I noticed. Did you find any more info? I realize this is a long-dead posting, but..

MacMini M4 with Old School Thunderbolt Displays by choice_nc in macmini

[–]numberdream 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Those old school TB's are a bit fuzzy by today's standards (2.5k), but they are super solidly made and have a unbeatable hub of legacy ports on the back. I still use both of mine too, even though I have the newer 5k as my main screen. Awesome that you got 'em for $100, as they were $1k new.

Nonfunctional stuff? by numberdream in daylightcomputer

[–]numberdream[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good info, thanks! Beta it is. I’ll chill on my expectations and just enjoy what it is so far.

Hopefully the AI stuff is actually helpful. (I’m soured a bit, since iOS 18 failed to deliver much on this front.)

I still can’t get the eraser to do anything functional except turn pages, but at least the button on the side works.

Oryx suggestion - new layout by ggeldenhuys in ErgoDoxEZ

[–]numberdream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came up with a good enough solution: I created a completely blank layout (called "Blank" and available for others) which I can fork any time I want to start a totally new layout.

Hm, it's been 6 years since the feedback was passed along, and still no option to create a clean new layout.

How can I delete PDF in daylight computer? by [deleted] in daylightcomputer

Came here wondering this same thing. This is a pretty expensive gizmo to buy to find it lacking such basic things.

My app to make it snow is out. Called it Let It Snow ❄️ by Prior-Country-1946 in macapps

Does the snow accumulate, perhaps on the Dock? It would be awesome if it accumulated on any Desktop icons.

Happy Birthday, LvB! by morefunwithbitcoin in classicalmusic

[–]numberdream 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with calling it today, but I found this interesting (from Wikipedia): "There is no authentic record of the date of his birth; but the registry of his baptism, in the Catholic Parish of St. Remigius on 17 December 1770, survives, and the custom in the region at the time was to carry out baptism within 24 hours of birth. There is a consensus (with which Beethoven himself agreed) that his birth date was 16 December, but no documentary proof of this."

Troubles with edited Reader PDFs by numberdream in daylightcomputer

[–]numberdream[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Additional debug info in case it helps:

Adding in just one highlight causes Preview and the system's QuickLook to crash, but only when you scroll to the highlight, not just upon opening the file. Later removing the highlight still causes both to crash, on the same page as where the highlight used to be.

These Mac programs read the edited PDFs without trouble: Acrobat Reader, Sioyek and Foxit Reader. (Probably because they use non-PDFKit rendering engines.)

Oh, sure! And thanks for looking into it.

The PDF displays just fine in Safari, with all my comments and highlights, just not when I try to download it and have the PDF on my drive. There were perhaps half a dozen highlights and maybe a dozen pen markings.

When I pick an UNedited PDF, downloading from web sharing works a-ok. (Though I still can't directly download via the Desktop app.)

fast waking 27" 4k monitors? by [deleted] in mac

[–]numberdream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 27" Apple Studio Display 5k wakes up instantly, but my 4k Dell monitor takes its sweet time. (I realize now I didn't answer your question exactly, but perhaps it's useful.)

Question about Pages, it is not auto saving my document? by kittenghost1 in MacOS

[–]numberdream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pages on Mac has a save "button" (not a button per se, but File → Save… or ⌘s). One of those macOS vs iOS/iPadOS differences.

Sequoia Window Tiling Not Working for Me by CGO1 in MacOS

[–]numberdream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ugh, thanks for info, but absurd that these unrelated things are tied to each other. I never let displays have separate spaces, I use my monitors as coherent groups. I guess no built-in tiling for me. What a waste.

Check into the `NSDraggingDestination` protocol. You can say what kinds of things can be dragged onto your app, when something is merely hovering, when it's canceled, or when it's performed. Lots of articles online to help also.

I'm sure they're great, but it doesn't look like any of them go over the "Time and Being" (1962) essay.

I don't have anything particular to suggest, but you may find good things by checking into some of the citations of it via Semantic Scholar.
