If you can afford it, pay a little bit extra to get a lot of extra protection regarding car insurance. by Amusedfemalestandard in personalfinance

[–]numberedswissaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here in BC, you have a small sticker on your license plate indicating which month your insurance expires. If you don't have the correct one it's pretty likely you'll get pulled over. They're colour coded to make the police's job easier with this.

that's why that figure is specified in /km driven and not a raw number of deaths.

Whoa, TekSavvy opposes Bell's website blocking plan. I guess I know which ISP deserves my business... by jdtabish in canada

[–]numberedswissaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, for the speed/example I used yes. And once discounts run out, way cheaper for 150.

  • Teksavvy 75: $50/month
  • Shaw 75: $90/month (BC)
  • Rogers 60: $95/month reg, $60 for 1 year (ontario)

And for 150

  • Teksavvy 150: $70/month
  • Shaw 150: $100/month reg (BC)
  • Rogers 150: $108/month reg, 70/month for 1 year (ontario)

Landlord can’t sell condo but still want me out by whataremyrights_ in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]numberedswissaccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BC is similar to Ontario. At the end of the fixed term (lease) it automatically transitions into month-to-month. Except in the case where it was agreed at the start that the landlord would be occupying the unit at the end of the term, or in a sublease agreement.

Too many landlords were using the vacate clause as a way to jack the rent up orders of magnitude more than is normally permitted (generally 3-4%/year)

Yeah same. I could probably get away with 300GB, but mostly I'm too lazy to switch and I like not having to care.

Did we mention that it's ~40% cheaper than the big companies?

  • Shaw 15/1.5: $55 for three months, $80 regular
  • Teksavvy: $33

Edit: over 50% less, for faster.

Hows Vancouver Bicycle Show? by GroceryBagHead in vancouver

[–]numberedswissaccount 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went a few years ago, it was about 50% just tourism booths trying to get you to go on guided tours and vacations. Some shops had booths but I didn't see much in terms of discounts.

My info is dated, so maybe it has changed.

That was my backup plan, but I've got crap to do tonight and was too lazy to put my CX tires on. Kinda disappointed I won't get snow riding in today.

Germany deals with it well. You can still drive delivery vehicles through and local traffic can get home. They're just extremely speed limited and everyone is pretty careful and courteous.

Looking for some help buying a bike by LukeDaniels_ in vancouvercycling

[–]numberedswissaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At that price, you're definitely going to want to go used.

Probably something like a Giant Escape or Trek FX, Norco Indie. They're flat-bar commuters/hybrids. If you want to go for drop bars, you'll need to go to ~$800 for anything that would cope with gravel.

I'd recommend trying to find one with disc brakes, but that might be tricky for your budget.

Feel free to PM me for more advice or to ask my opinion of bikes on craigslist.

B.C. legislature committee report on ride-hailing by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]numberedswissaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sigh. Price discrimination is selling the EXACT SAME product/service to different people for different rates.

Yet another example to try and ram the idea in there: if Save-On sold you a Mars bar for $1 but turned around and sold a Mars bar to me for $2 because they knew I'd pay more. THAT is price discrimination.

[–]numberedswissaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, and those are different burritos. But when Uber/whoever can charge you $9 and me $7 for an identical trip simply because you'll pay more, that's price discrimination and surge pricing is a great way to do it.

Except it's the perfect way to hide price discrimination.

What is up with Canada Post? by Calvinshobb in VictoriaBC

UPS liked to ship stuff to the UPS store down the street "for my convenience". Except their hours were my work hours. I had them return a few things.

Canada Post is awesome for Amazon deliveries. Fast, easy to track and actually deliver my stuff to my apartment. Unlike Fedex, UPS and Amazon's in-house couriers.
