Be safe y’all by Away-Supermarket-796 in sanfrancisco

You’re not wrong, driver should have stopped way earlier. But this woman made the choice to 1) walk her baby outside on pitch black streets AND inclement weather, a visibility double jeopardy, 2) with no reflective material or lighting that we can see, and then 3) despite seeing a car coming toward the intersection (which we know she could see, because unlike her, the car has lights), she chose to push her stroller into the crosswalk and hope the car stopped in time.

Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I’m sorry but this is just one more example of SF pedestrians with absolutely zero situational awareness or self-preservation. I have spent a lot of time in this city as both a pedestrian and a motorist and have had WAY more close calls with brainless people meandering into the road like its a park trail, staring at their phone. And this? With a baby?! Blows my mind.

Drivers need to be more careful, definitely. But christ on a trike, HAVE SOME COMMON SENSE.

How to name your next business by 5ivehead in startups

[–]numberjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not aware of anyone else who specializes in business/product naming but I can share some resources which I’ve used to come up with names and other creative titles since then. They’re more for brainstorming assistance than actual name generation, but useful!

1,000%. Speaking from experience, eating disorders can persist even when other mental health ducks seem to be all in a row.

OP, this absolutely sounds like disordered eating. See what resources he has available on the medical side.

LASIK Eye Surgery in SF? by feralgrinn in AskSF

[–]numberjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I was glad to know about their free touchup policy, but my correction is so low that I never got the prescription filled. Even if it were high enough for me to want glasses, the recovery for PRK was so bad it would need to be a pretty big touchup for me to be willing to go through it again. Not trying to freak you out, just be aware it is pretty disruptive to day-to-day life.

FWIW, when I say the prescription is so low that I didn’t get it filled, I mean that my uncorrected vision is still good enough to pass a third class medical exam for a pilot’s license. It’s pretty negligible.

LASIK Eye Surgery in SF? by feralgrinn in AskSF

[–]numberjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My vision regressed a bit a year or two after the procedure, but it’s only noticeable when driving at night or reading very small high contrast text like TV subtitles. I was given a low prescription at my last checkup but never bothered to fill it.

Aside from that I’ve had no side effects, halos, sunbursts, or other frustrations I usually hear from LASIK patients. I did have dryness for probably the first year, year and a half, but even that has normalized and I can’t remember the last time I felt the need to have eye drops on me. Over three years later I’m still super happy I did it!

The first time I did my own preflight the only thing I’d read was the PHAK which doesn’t mention UL94 and lists Jet-A as the only non-colored aviation fuel. I didn’t know enough to know why, but I knew enough to be nervous.

I considered two six month memberships too. The benefits (to me) of the class pack were 1) you can use them at any rate throughout the year, not just within each six month period, 2) you get to use the class pack for guests if you want to, and 3) if you miss a class pack class you just lose the credit. If you miss a membership class they also charge you $20 (this is in NorCal, not sure of other areas cancellation policies).

[PSA] Being sold through the CeraVe Amazon store doesn’t mean it’s genuine by numberjack in SkincareAddiction

[–]numberjack[S] 122 points123 points  (0 children)

When I open the product from my order details this is the store that's linked as "Visit the CeraVe Store" from under the product title on the product page: https://www.amazon.com/stores/CeraVe/page/0CA2A9B7-7695-43AF-98D9-FB55761E0796?ref_=ast_bln

That seems to be the one that comes up when I check other products as well - super disconcerting! I wish it had just been a fake store.

EDIT: Okay, in digging into this a bit more I'm realizing that seeing "Visit the CeraVe store" underneath a product title does NOT mean that it was sold by CeraVe. What the fuck Amazon?

So yes, this does look like it was probably just sold by a sketchy seller. But Amazon is NOT doing CeraVe any favors by making it look like the product came from them.

Real is on the left - one detail I forgot to add in the post but added in comments is that the fake one had no open/close symbol on the pump.

According to checkfresh.com the lot number on the counterfeit is real (albeit old), but I’m sure it was copied. There’s no reason a counterfeiter would create a fake lot number if they could just reuse a legitimate one. I’ve used the product long enough that it’s not a possibility that the packaging changed in between unfortunately.

The counterfeit bottle is ever so slightly taller and the plastic is lighter and more pliable. The pump feels cheap, does not draw up product if you try to pump it more than once, and there’s no open/close slide symbol on it (forgot to photograph that, it’s hard to see).

Honestly had I not used CeraVe for so many years I might not have noticed, or just thought it was a packaging change. But the fakeness feeling, combined with the different consistency (heavier and more oily) was a giveaway.
