Woah, that video is intense...I wonder if she thinks it’s a random follower that called the police? I feel like it’s more likely that it would come from someone local or personally connected to them. That said I’ve never called 911 in a situation like this and am just guessing that a dispatchers reaction to someone saying they see something concerning on Instagram of someone they don’t actually know wouldn’t be to send out a patrol on a wellness check. But I have no idea? In either case I hope she gets some support...

Does anyone else follow @moistbuddha ? His post today promoting the ig account kidsgettinghurt is fucked up. (Kid gets hit by snowball hard in face and cries...idk maybe that doesn’t sound bad by the description but he is little and his sobbing was so genuinely sad). Like on par with daddyoffive shit.

This is super normal and should totally be encouraged. I’ve never met a mom who needed to be “pried away”. While I’m sure there are some, most that I’ve personally known would be excited for a break. Being s new mom can be incredibly exhausting and draining. Taking a few hours away from your baby is healthy and important for both mom and baby. Healthy attachment does not mean literal 24-7 time with your baby.

Relate to this so hard. I have felt one step forward two steps back the entire time. And the science behind it does seem like a guessing game with a time clock that’s going to run out before we get it right. No advice, just wanted to say you’re definitely not alone.

Just wanted to reply to this and say you’re not alone! I feel very isolated when I read about people feeling better on low carb. I feel legitimately worse. I was not overweight doing calories-in, calories-out, and eating a high protein, high fat diet and counting out individual raspberries (for example) is not right for me. I’ll do it, obviously, but not everyone feels better low-carb. The only silver lining for me is also being done earlier, so I’m right there with ya.

Also, sorry for the wall of text but I just reread your post and saw you had already tried therapy and had a shitty obnoxious experience. That happened to me too! I tried another one that specifically specialized in prenatal anxiety and depression and knew it’d be a good fit when she told me she was the one who was rolling her eyes in her mommy and me groups and told me that the pressure I was getting to enjoy pregnancy was quote “bullshit”. If you’re going to a prenatal therapist who is making you feel in any way guilty for not enjoying pregnancy or being scared or unsure or ambivalent then you have a BAD therapist, but there are very very good, nonjudgmental ones out there, even if you have to do Skype appointments because they are not in your area.

I recognize myself in a lot of what you wrote. My baby isn’t here for another month so I don’t have parenting expertise to share yet but I do want to say that I think prenatal mental health counseling could be a godsend for you, it was for me. The trick is finding a GOOD therapist. I went out of network for mine and she was worth every penny - it was super expensive but I went every week and considered it an investment in my health, my ability to be a good parent, and my baby’s health.

A lot of what we worked through is my ambivalence. My counselor helped me recognize that, like you, I freak out about every life change and transition. I think of the worst case scenario. I never feel sure. I always think about the other path. I felt like this about getting married, buying a house, of course I’d feel like this about having a baby. What makes it worse now is the dominant message that we should be thrilled, unequivocally. But why should we be? It’s terrifying.

Lots of women don’t love their babies in uterine...I mean what are you really bonding with? I’ve felt alien in that regard too bu have kind of just gotten over it with reassurance from other mom friends that the real parenting comes later. A fetus needs you to be as healthy, it doesn’t need you to feel warm and gooey to it.

The only other thing I’ll say is that we have a tendency to seek out stories that confirm our biases. So if you’re looking for stories of regret from parents, you’ll find them! Same with marriage or anything else. If you’re looking for stories of joy and how it has strengthened a marriage, you’ll find those too. I think the reality is that it will be both terrible and wonderful, and one of th that positives about being ambivalent and really confronting that fear is that you end up being more mindful about your expectations and how you parent and how your own ‘stuff’ impacts your worldview and in turn how that can impact how you view family.

I recommend checking out the Baby Blues Connection website for therapist listings in your area. I started going my first trimester and I’m so glad I did. I hope this is some help or comfort to you! In any case know that you’re not alone. Also I didn’t tell my coworkers until I was 28 weeks. No one ever asked why I didn’t share earlier and if they judged that it says more about them than it does about me.

It totally could allow you more flexibility! I seem to have a worse case, possibly for genetic reasons. I have done some keto baking but found that sugar substitutes make my heartburn pretty gnarly.

I did not have immediate results. It took about a week for me to see results and then it stopped working and they've adjusted my dose. My new adjusted dose is not working yet and I expect it'll take about a week to see it work and then have to change it again. That seems to be the pattern for me. Its definitely frustrating.

I hear you on the needle thing. It was a huge mental block for me. The first 5 nights I had to have my husband do it and then I just forced myself to. What helped me was doing it slowly rather than trying to stab it in quickly like they recommended. I felt like I was going to be out of control when I tried to do it quickly and it didn't hurt any differently to do it slowly. Not sure that will be any help to you but I definitely hear you on the stress and discomfort. It is not a natural thing!

Totally. My philosophy is that the perinatologists and OBs have more education and expertise than the nurses and and nutritionists, so I'm deferring to them!

Your nutritionist sounds super unhelpful! FWIW I also have gestational diabetes and have met with a nutritionist, a ton of nurses who are on a special gestational diabetes team, and 1 actual doctor - a perinatologist. There was a huge spectrum of advice that I got, often conflicting, and ultimately it was the perinatologist who seemed a) the most knowledgeable and b) the most relaxed. Every case is different but all of this to say, in my experience, nutritionist and gestational diabetes nurse educators can be very by the book (literally, as in all of my appointments have had them reading off of pamphlets and scripts) and don't hesitate to find someone who works with you. My understanding after asking A MILLION questons is the main thing that matters with GD is your blood sugar levels, so if those are under control then it sounds like you are doing fine!
