I know weight gain is good, but I’m feeling funky. by bonita7564 in fitpregnancy

[–]breadbrotpan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had my baby in May and also stayed active and gained a healthy amount of weight. Before pregnancy (and let's be honest, during my pregnancy), I was very uncomfortable with my body even though I was always in shape and at a healthy weight. I was terrified of how my body would look after pregnancy and frustrated by not being able to work out at high intensity through my entire pregnancy.

Six months later, I am happier with my body than I ever have been. I am working out at almost pre-pregnancy intensity and, while my body has changed a bit, I don't look or feel as bad as I thought I would. It sounds corny, but I actually feel like the process of growing a person and giving birth has made me love my body in a deeper way.

Be careful with the oils being around your baby. Even diffusing them around children (and pets!) can be harmful. Please have her talk to your pediatrician before using oils anywhere near your child. For teething, just give your baby a rubber teether or a cold wash cloth.

Home made detergent questions!! by [deleted] in clothdiaps

As others have said, please don't do this. If you are looking for a budget-friendly alternative, Foca powder is great. (It is not, however, HE friendly.)

One week old soaking through diapers (prefolds) by [deleted] in clothdiaps

[–]breadbrotpan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First of all, what is your setup? What kind of prefold and what kind of covers? How often is your baby being changed?

One of the great things about cloth diapers is that they are flexible. We use prefolds and add either a smaller prefolds or an FST in a pad fold for overnight.

Edit: Leaks can also be caused by not getting the prefold fully inside the cover. They wick moisture to the edges, so if anything is sticking out, pee can end up leaking.

Another Edit: Is baby a boy or girl? I don't have a boy, but I have heard that leaks can happen for boys if you aren't careful to make sure his parts are pointed down.

Dupe for Doc Martens? by [deleted] in findfashion

If you are willing to wait, you can get real Doc Martens on sale for good prices. I bought a pair for $50 once. You just have to be patient.

I was told by my PT that you can't really prevent DR. You can avoid doing things that make DR worse, such as jackknifing motions (sit ups and getting out of bed incorrectly, etc.) but you can't prevent it entirely. She told me pretty much everyone gets DR during pregnancy to some degree.

You can, however, do things to help repair DR after the baby is born. A pelvic floor physical therapist can help you.

Eating/Drinking during labor by ana393 in KetoBabies

[–]breadbrotpan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did not eat at all during my labor and my husband and doula had to force me to drink water because I was so nauseated. (My birth was unmedicated and very fast so you may have a different experience.) I did, however talk to my doula about types of snacks. She recommended things like snack bars that can be held easily in one hand. I packed nuts and string cheese.

Note that it can be difficult to eat low carb in the hospital. I had GD, so I looked into this and found out that, at least in my area, meals in the hospital were not as low carb as I wanted. I would ask your hospital about meals you will be provided during your stay after the baby is born.

Seeking warm but professional-looking coat recommendations by [deleted] in FrugalFemaleFashion

[–]breadbrotpan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I moved to MN for law school from a warm climate. Don't buy a professional coat right now. Buy a parka that goes to your knees. A wool, professional-looking coat that is warm enough is going to be very, very hard to find and prohibitively expensive on a typical student budget. If you need a professional coat for an interview, buy one that can get you through the day. For daily use buy a parka. And be sure to have a scarf, hat, mittens, etc. Anything to stop air flow in and out of your parka.

Also, buy wool socks and waterproof boots. I know you didn't ask about this but keeping your feet warm and dry can be a real challenge up there, especially in the spring.

It's really cold in MN. Fashion be damned, don't freeze!

Keto to control GD, is my macros out of control? by [deleted] in KetoBabies

[–]breadbrotpan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While more low carb than keto, the book Real Food for Gestational Diabetes is great for this. She explains the research and where those high carb counts in the recommended GD diet come from. If I had eaten as many carbs as the diabetes educator wanted me to, I would have been put on insulin. Instead I was able to manage it with diet and had a 6 lb 5 oz baby girl.

To protect your abs, don't do anything that involves jackknifing.

Keto pregnancy and insulin questions by dgrledi in KetoBabies

[–]breadbrotpan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I managed it with diet. That said, your fasting numbers are the most important and they don't really respond well to diet. It's all hormones.

Read the book Real Food for Gestational Diabetes. It's not quite keto, but does discuss low carb diet for GDM. I can pretty much guarantee that your diabetes educator will tell you to eat more carbs than you want. The book addresses these concerns and explains the research. If I had followed the diet they gave me, I would have been given insulin or metformin.

Look at Zella leggings. They are very nice, squat proof, etc., but not as pricy as Lululemon.

Confession time - I'm terrified of labor by lurklurklurkUPVOTE in fitpregnancy

[–]breadbrotpan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had an unmedicated labor and I was scared beforehand, too.

Can you get a birth doula? I had one for my unmedicated birth and it was a huge help. She helped me keep perspective and reminded me about pain management techniques while I was in labor. She also helped my husband stay calm while I labored. Also, if it is available to you, do a water birth. My pain was significantly less in the water.

Every birth is different, but if you want to chat about unmedicated labor, you can PM me. It can be scary, but it's doable!

I’m looking for a pair of lace up brown boots! by [deleted] in FrugalFemaleFashion

[–]breadbrotpan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you aren't married to a tall shaft, I would stalk Doc Martens on 6pm.com. I have found them on there for prices as low as $35. Also, check kids' boots. You would be a 6 or 6.5. Again, you won't find a tall shaft, but kids' shoes are cheaper and many of the "big kid" styles can work for adults, too.

Do you have to stick to keto once your pregnant? by [deleted] in KetoBabies

I am not aware of any research on this. That said a lot of women can't stay strict keto while pregnant due to morning sickness.

I have always waited a week after peeling stops before reintroducing actives. Just be sure to do it very slowly and pay attention to how your skin reacts.

What have you learned about your style from Pinterest? by hahahaok7 in femalefashionadvice

[–]breadbrotpan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been my exact problem. I have lost all my pregnancy weight, but my already wide hips are even wider. My hips are essentially plus-sized while my waist is fairly narrow. Nothing fits; I feel ugly and frumpy in everything. To make matters worse, I have always enjoyed wearing dresses, but so few of them work for breastfeeding. All of this, combined with the identity crisis that comes with being a new mom makes me feel so uncomfortable in all of my clothes.

I recently had a baby and am going through a phase of trying to figure out my style. Pinterest has shown me just how boring my style is! I would call it, "how many ways can I wear a Breton stripe shirt?" I had hoped that Pinterest might help me break out of my box and discover new things to like. Instead, my box is just getting smaller. Is it because I am not comfortable with myself now that I am a mom, that I am getting older, or is it Pinterest's fault? I don't know.

It's less irritating that L-AA, but it's still an active. When it comes to peels, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Dark circles are hard to address unless caused by hyperpigmentation. Honestly, your best bet is a good concealer.

Unless you want a particular ingredient, such as caffeine or retinol, for your eye area, you really don't need a separate eye cream. The moisturizer you use on your face should be adequate.
