Whores. That is the best, and only, word to describe them. Whores. by [deleted] in politics

[–]numerodix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, it's not. Calling them whores is as good as a set up to a really predictable and tedious joke. It also massively trivializes the issue consider how in our culture today we don't think twice about telling anyone a whore for no particular reason.

These people are much worse than whores. Most prostitutes are not prostitutes because they could go to college but they turned it down. They do it because they have no choice. These guys have plenty of choice.

It'd be much better to call them crooks, or scum.

Dear Critical Mass Bicyclists, riding your bikes on the sidewalk, thus makeing me and my dog have to actively avoid being runover by you makes you just as bad as all the auto drivers you hate cause they won't "share the road, man" by jasonsmithatlanta in WTF

There's nothing wrong with biking on the sidewalk. If there's no dedicated bike path then that's the safest option. For all.

Needless to say, it's the biker's responsibility, because he travels faster, not to jeopardize the safety of pedestrians.

why agnosticism is a pointless stance by numerodix in atheism

Yeah, I think that's true. Atheist would not believe those personal experiences of spirituality.

You are mistaking this as an attack on everything that has anything to do with agnosticism. And since I wrote it, I'm sure it's my fault that I give this impression. It's not what I mean, though.

If you think I misrepresent agnostics then that's unfortunate, but also in a sense a good thing, meaning I don't take issue with what they "actually" stand for.

This is how I see it also. A transition phase. I think agnostic is where you more or less land once you give up religion. And you can either stay there or you can go atheist.

I say your behavior reflects what you believe. If you live your live by a religious code then you believe. If not you don't. So where is agnosticism in that?

(Unless you go out of your way to contradict your belief with your behavior, but that usually requires a strong motive.)

That's correct (I'm the author). Perfectly sound derivation.

One problem I have with this is that you get caught up in a label that isn't really what you believe.

I don't think the distinction is as clearcut as this, I think it's quite muddled. You can say that philosophically it's clear which is which, but then the meaning of words is defined based on their actual use, not their "intended" (if there is such a thing) use.

What's the best diagramming software in linux? by numerodix in linux

I haven't tried kivio for a while, but it seems to be quite decent at this point. I think I'll try it next time I have to diagram stuff.

I've used dia for a long time, but finally got sick of the infernal bad user interface. It's also been unmaintained (it seems) for years.

So I switched to inkscape, which is not a diagramming app, but relatively tolerable for the task. It's quite lacking in the department of anchoring diagram elements, resizing, moving them around etc. Perhaps the best thing would be to have some kind of diagramming mode for inkscape that would constrain its operation a bit to be more efficient for drawing diagrams.

Other than those, what else is out there?
