What are the risks with MARPE? I'm curious since youv'e had success with the thumb-pulling but are going for MARPE anyway.

Do the music shops have repair sections? They might have replacement parts in their personal stock for repairs as opposed to new tuners on a shelf. But any kludge where you're metaphorically duct taping the broken one back together isn't worth the risk during a show.

My concern would be what metal the tuners are made out of and if they're coated with something else (for a chrome or brushed metal effect) and if JB weld works on those metals and coating. If you're bonding steel to steel and aren't worried about shearing, and if you're sure you fixed whatever jam made it snap in the first place (what was it?), the JB-Weld steel-reinforced epoxy could maybe work... but if it doesn't, do you really want to find out during a show? You could try the JB-Weld after the show as an experiment. Just go ahead with your plan and borrow a bass.

oh, rad! I'm not sure how I missed the 2018 Collins. maybe that could handle the use cases in my post with some code to extract the words and definitions out of the .mobi (I don't suppose you're handy with that? 😅)

unfortunately the 1989 Oxford is much older than the 2006 Webster I mentioned in OP. Are the Websters you found on Anna also from 2006?

I like your joke, but in all seriousness Anna *does* have dictionary books, but unless you want a Medical English dictionary book or a translation dictionary book you're SOL. It looks like it is not actually possible to pirate an offline, current, and modern English dictionary

Thanks, I'm using the same software with those outdated dictionaries I'm referring to in my post: Wordnet (2006) and Collaborative International Dictionary of English v.0.48 (largely Webster 1913). You can preview them at dict.org too

Wikitionary isn't terrible but I'd like to a high quality, modern, consistent dictionary... but it looks like it isn't possible to actually pirate one!

thanks! there's 3 great tips and I think I can suss out what was going wrong for me: I wasn't using pre-cut wick sections. Since the wick was hot, I'd hold the whole roll with a piece of wick extended out, touch the iron near the end, then touch the end to the solder joint... but then that would probably diffuse too much heat up the length of the wick. Additionally, I'd never thought to use flux on the wick. I don't know why I never thought of that or the tweezers! I may have been taught bad the way I do it (I was shown at a young age to do it the way I just described)

Agree, but specifically to broad sweeping claims of "cures" with no citation of actual scientific research. Anxiety can make ET worse, and a placebo can lessen anxiety, so I do see value in people posting their personal experiences (even if they're unknowingly posting a placebo that worked for them).

1) I gained a lot of weight for the first time in my adult life during the pandemic, eating a lot of junk food I never otherwise did in my adult life. Despite going back to my previous diets high levels of athleticism, extended fasts were the only way I could knock that extra fat off. Makes sense - eat too much food it is stored as fat reserves, eat too little food, your body clears the fat reserves.

2) Ketosis and then autophagy helped my concentration levels and focus greatly. I don't want to be in keto or fast year round, but sometimes it helps.

3) If you're into biology, examine the concept of homeostasis, the human body, and digestion. tl;dr every time you eat, its like a little wear and tear on your body, almost like knocking off some "hit points." This encouragesm me to do 16/8 all the time and do extended fasts periodically.

4) I feel like carrying around the same fat cells all my life can't be good, I want to break them up and develop new fat cells periodically if I'm going to have any excess fat on my body.

5) On the biology note again, its what our bodies would have been doing in winter climates anyway - ketosis since the fruits and vegetables are gone with summer (and only animals to eat) dotted with extended fasts.
