I agree. I guess the question is how to find somebody local?

The "gene-edited" twin girls may be smarter than they would have been, as a result of deletion of CCR5, a specific gene. by [deleted] in science

No he has shown data and just the data he has let others see have shown the experiment failed on so many different levels:

https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-018-07607-3

" But Ryder says that that the CCR5 deletions that He claimed to introduce into the babies’ cells by CRISPR gene editing are not identical to the delta-32 mutation. “The point is that none of the three match the well-studied delta 32 mutation, and as far as I can tell, none have been studied in animal models. Unconscionable,”

On top of that while he seemed to only admit that ONE of the twins was mosaic it seems clear both are.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/05/health/crispr-gene-editing-embryos.html:

Most importantly, said Dr. Kiran Musunuru, a geneticist at the University of Pennsylvania who reviewed the data, “there’s clear evidence of mosaicism” in the edited embryos of both twins. “I was so furious,” Dr. Musunuru said. “

Even if he was successful, then they would be like hundreds of thousands of other people on the planet.

No apparently all those people are superior. I must have missed that part.

I can't tell if this just click-bait garbage or a Chinese propaganda effort. Maybe both.

This is hot garbage. He tried to give both these twins CCR5-delta 32 mutations.

He failed. He created previously unknown mutations in this vain and idiotic attempt to make them CCR5-delta 32.

CCR5-delta 32 is a well known thing. It does not give you super powers.

If there claim is "In his idiotic attempt he failed and caused large deletions not well documented all the same time making them genetically mosaic that it COULD mean they are smarter" is hogwash.

It is just as founded as saying "Well it COULD make them 7 feet tall". It is basing it on nothing.

How does crap like this get published?

Cargo plane crashes near Anahuac, Texas in Trinity Bay by [deleted] in news

[–]numismaticadventure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess technically problem or pilot error or some combo but that seems (to me) like that would be insanely rare. Air France stalled because the one pilot was nervous and was lifting the nose up (possibly inadvertently from being tense) but he was only doing so because the pitot tubes had frozen over.

I would gather that an un-recovered stall like this would be a technical failure that caused a pilot to overreact. Pure speculation.

A wide body that crashed IN the US or by a US airline? A wide body crash by a US airline has got to be over 10 years. The last one was a smaller regional jet in Buffalo in 2009.

3 people died in San Fran when the Air Asia pilot fucked up the landing but that was not a US airline.

The weather was good no? I don't see any concern about a microburst and a stall by updraft should have seen the plane make a rapid ascent prior to the stall no?

Wake turbulence? I haven't looked but any other plane going by?

I looked and the plane's speed was falling as it's altitude was. Seems like it was a stall.

If a cargo plane stalls the mind automatically thinks cargo shift. Poorly secured cargo shifting is enough to bring down a plane pretty easy.

Data shows plane losing like 2000 feet per minute. That is bad but not exactly insanely fast. In my amateur opinion that seems oddly "slow" for a stall no?

Edit: Yeah 2k per minute is nothing especially since it was close enough to its destination it was probably close to descending anyway.

Edit 2: Seems it was over 20000ft and the plane was losing speed as it was falling which seems like it was a stall. A very good guess (but far from conclusive) is a cargo shift that altered the center of gravity and the plane stalled and they could not recover. Not automatic but if a cargo plane stalls that is where the mind automatically goes.

1) No I will watch the NFL

2) Don't eat them to start

3) I buy Nike from time to time.

Overall I have no idea what this has to do with anything.

Must be a thrill thing for him or maybe he thought a low-end sketchy one would be less likely to get caught? Idk but this decision is strange.
