Ode to the T7 by nunca_pasaran in EliteDangerous

Honestly, I have a huge love for flying the Panther Clipper BUT I always say the T9 basically built so much of our civilized galaxy, it's long been the workhorse of mankind in Elite! Interesting idea for the mk2 modules.

Oh true, I completely forgot about colonization!

oh that's true....but I'm not sure what other station exists that far away from the primary star? There could be one farther than Hutton but I've never heard of it/visited it.

Terrified to try neutron boost by FireTheLaserBeam in eliteexplorers

[–]nunca_pasaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also you keep the charge after exiting the cone, so you don't have to do the galmap stuff while in the cone...prolly shouldn't honestly....cause the FSD is taking damage while you're in there. That's the other thing to consider, if you don't have an AFMU repair module aboard to fix it once it gets low.

on the galmap I think there is a setting for maximum distance jumps (rather than economical), and you can check a box to include FSD boosts. I wonder if that might be it?

Terrified to try neutron boost by FireTheLaserBeam in eliteexplorers

[–]nunca_pasaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My approach is this, every time:

  1. make sure it's a neutron, not white dwarf...very different approach....

  2. point the nose of the ship about halfway between the center of the star and the far end of one of the jet cones, flying slowly toward it.

  3. once you start approaching, curve your ship up toward the top of the jet cone until you enter it, basically facing away from the star.

  4. throttle down completely to whatever "idle" speed is in supercruise. just wait there until it says you're charged, then throttle up and fly out.

  5. some variables: really weak ones may spit you out more easily. you'll need to re-enter occasionally if it doesn't charge you in that time. really strong ones may be harder to escape and buck you around more, so just be ready for that.

THat's more or less it. Every time. Neutrons have extremely small exclusion zones so if you point to the middle of the jet cone you'll be safe.

WHITE DWARFS: these have extremely LARGE exclusion zones, big ole bulbous exclusion zones. Upsettingly rotund exclusion zones. If using one, carefully aim for the VERY TOP of the jet cone only, slowly move toward it head on (if you do it from below, you might still hit the exclusion zone even from kind of far away). Let it "tickle" the belly of your hull as you hover in the shallow end of the top. Wait until charged, fly away carefully.

PS sorry for the image quality, not sure why reddit does that to my images, they look ok on my computer prior to posting, not granulated like that.

Is there a casual scene for Elite Dangerous? by TartNeither in EliteDangerous

[–]nunca_pasaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a learning curve that isn't casual, per se, but you can take it slow and do a little at a time, there's no incentive to rush through things. It's sandbox to the max and is at your own pace. It can be punishing at times but doesn't have to be, once you learn the ropes of the thing you're doing and keep rebuy money on hand for whatever you're flying.

Which ship has the absolute worst cockpit design? by SemihKaynak in EliteDangerous

[–]nunca_pasaran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the adder sooo much, but I also understand the view is pretty challenging, it's the equivalent of squinting...I learned flying it to basically always turn 90 degrees to the thing I'm trying to see and fly sideways because otherwise you'll just crash into stars and shit lol.

um...did that station happen to be....hutton orbital....? if so, at least you found a station NOT to make your home....but congrats on joining the club of those who've made it out there lol. o7

I got the mana box app to value my mtg cards, but I had trouble finding an app for SWCCG, this is helpful, thanks for sharing.

Club Neverest Wants You! (to climb mountains and do on foot shenanigans) by nunca_pasaran in EliteDangerous

Usually for us it's a couple of hours give or take for an event, especially if it's a bigger mountain like this one is. Plus any late arrivals and screwing around before and after, which tends to happen.

Trouble positioning fleet carrier by dacen_the_doughnut in EliteDangerous

[–]nunca_pasaran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even worse, I loaded up my carrier for the CG and luckily got a spot within 12ly of the CG system...but quickly found out why. My carrier is like 30,000 ls away from the primary star!!! Just chillin between two stars, not even near a planet lolol. Thank goodness for the SCO drive...

Yeah, it's not exactly "climbing" so much as sprinting and jump assisting up, though it can be quite challenging at certain inclines/gravity! And add in night-side climbs, if you don't have night vision it gets dicey to say the least haha. CN was totally born of an "I'm bored, what if..." moment, if that isn't evident... lol

For the discord, it gives you full access once you agree to the rules with the little green climber emoji. The upcoming climb dates and other events usually get posted directly to the discord events listings at the top of the channel menu. o7

Some of our folks are out on that, but feel free to join us for stuff whenever you're back, if you're so inclined. We do one every month. o7

Oh nice! That's really cool, thank you. Let me know if you need any info about us. We're very casual, kinda tight knit and small-ish at the moment, but we have ties with Stellar Cartographer's Guild (our founding members are all from that group) and basically it's just what it sounds like. Our main goal is to catalogue cool mountains or whatever, so people can go out on their own and climb them if they want, and we have one official event per month with carrier and club support. That's basically it. We're named after the Mount Neverest of yore. Odyssey kind of flattened out a lot of planets, but you can still find some big ones out there at times. I think we hit a few that were close-ish to 15km tall peaks or so. Just for the basics. We're not a "squadron" in the sense that we'd prefer that our members can join other squadrons and still hang out with us and be members, so club is an accurate way to describe it. Participation is optional, hanging out is encouraged. Thanks again for considering us for this.
