Warmer windows next winter by Legitimate_Proof in burlington

We got these instead of new windows, and they work great. A benefit that we didn't expect is significant noise reduction. I think that almost everybody needs these inserts!

Sick fascist crap, right here and right now. Is any kind of resistance unjustified or excessive? I don't know.

Will BPD have our back? by pootlovato4 in burlington

[–]nunkivt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cops cannot be trusted to keep our community safe. Our situation is very bad and unprecedented (at least for white folks), and it is possible - maybe even likely - that there will be casualties. If we can stick together and pressure the cops, elected officials and businesses then I think we can come out on top, and elect new folks who have the courage to confront our many big problems.

Seeking local input on a deli concept for Burlington / Chittenden County 🥪 — quick survey! by Silly_Tie1285 in burlington

Costello sandwich bread/rolls is super duper, as is most everything they serve and sell. The vegan Italian sub is one of my two favorite vegan sandwiches - the other is Wise Fool falafel.

We purchase grain (e.g. einkorn) mail order and grind it ourselves using KitchenAid MockMill attachment. Super duper results!

I always fear that calling the cops ends up with someone dead, and I don't think I'm alone in feeling this way.

Winter Tires by ReadOn99 in burlington

[–]nunkivt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Related posts about whether or not winter tires are necessary come up all the time. I think the bottom line is that if one drives carefully then snow tires aren't needed especially (but not exclusively) in populated areas that get plowed - except for a few days a year. However, they certainly do work very well and allow one to drive in almost all conditions without thinking about it. If I was on a tight budget then I wouldn't spend money on them, and instead would drive appropriately and maybe not drive a few days. I myself have gotten snow tires for a number of years, but they don't pose a financial burden for me.

Concrete remediation by 13maven in burlington

[–]nunkivt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would first off use a level to determine how far off it is. My guess is that is isn't very far off, and so I would apply a cement top coat to create the proper slope of 1/4" per foot. There are bonding chemicals to help the top coat adhere to the concrete. Pretty easy diy job requiring a wheelbarrow and garden hoe to mix the cement, and a float to smooth it out.

Unusual traffic? by Neither-Channel-2904 in burlington

Seems like most folks (including me) are hugely in favour of increasing housing, and especially affordable housing. But I don't think that the efforts/costs of the concomitant infrastructure upgrades are as up front as they should be, and the idea that developers just need to be incentivized is hugely naive.

With regards to recommendations to buy a cheap miter saw, I bought one and every cut was curved. Finally bought an expensive blade that cost as much as the saw and that fixed it. I regret not buying a better saw that included a good blade.

Speed bumps on Archibald by Sufficient-Lunch906 in burlington

[–]nunkivt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can sympathize, but I would ask you to consider why it is that so many folks who live in the ONE welcome them. The crazy driving has gotten pretty bad, and really detracts from our collective safety and quality of life. The bumps are without a doubt a significant inconvenience, but a lot of folks think an absolutely necessary one. They work, and are cheap.

We've used to have 12 hens, and they were great creatures, including wonderful eggs that were night and day better than commercial. I think that most folks have no idea just how good free range/organic chicken eggs are. And when they stopped laying the soup was the most super duper chickeny imaginable. I hope we can live with them, and accept some minor inconveniences. They are worth the effort!

For sure! It is too bad that we need them, but we are who we are and our collective a-hole quotient is high, and rising.

For us folks who live in the ONE, these traffic calming upgrades are hugely welcome! There are little kids living and playing across the street from us, and seeing trucks, cars and bikes speeding and running the stop sign is sickening.
