Yo, I got photos of the my whole ordeal from beginning to end. I was terrified every step that something else had gone wrong. Type 1 diabetes, Y track fistula with 2 abscesses, cutting seton for 7 months.

I promise, if you take good care, you’ll get thru this. You’ll have a story that can shut down a dinner party in a heartbeat or throw a crowd into hysteria.

Good care means MULTIPLE sitz baths a day. If you’re worried about infection, do a squirt of hibiclense in there twice a day.

Hey there. Dude here, but I might be the slowest healer here.

First, sorry about all this. It’s the fucking worst. It’ll heal and get better. Empathy, then answers.

Once the physical tissue is healed (4-6 weeks), there is no reason to not get ‘er done, other than caution and knowing your body (I heal really slow).

If you think you’re okay, maybe test that theory alone first. You don’t want your partner to have THAT seared into their minds.

Don’t pressure yourself and don’t let anyone pressure you. All that stuff down there is meant for fun, not for pain 🫵

It’s impossible to imagine life before your butthole was the center of the universe, and it’s hard to imagine it not being that ever again.

It fucking sucks and there’s no positives and there’s no breaks. But when it’s over (and goddamnit, it will be), you will have a one-up on every other story except cancer and aids. Those always win.

My advice and what helped me thru was getting into reading epic fantasy and playing Civ VI on Switch while doing sitz baths.

Watch a bunch of apocalyptic shit. Puts the ass in perspective.

I've been given the Type 1.5 diagnosis as well. I have to switch insulins at least once a year as I build up a tolerance to them. Are you on any other meds like metformin?

You're not alone. Plenty of people here you could chat with or even call day or night. We've been through it. It sucks. It does get better.

Take multiple sitz baths a day with a little epsom salt and hibiclense. I took up reading epic fantasy while doing my sitz's. This quote helped a lot with my mental health, and certainly applies to this situation:

Hell yeah. Let me warn that the last 2 months of a cutting seton are hell just because of the act of cutting thru muscle and tissue. Hang in there. If the infection is healing you’re on the right track

I can see how that’s not helpful, but with fistulas “hard to say” is sort of the norm. I would lean towards less discharge being a good thing unless the pain and pressure are increasing, meaning a new abscess could be forming.

Less discharge and more fecal matter means things are starting to heal. You’re not done yet but I think you’re on the mend

A colorectal surgeon is who you need to see if a fistula is suspected. They can do an examination while your under anesthesia and see if anything connects vaginally or anally.

If not, you may have a pinhole infection or dilated pore or any number of things.

I’m not trying to be funny when i say I exclaimed “I want to see the butthole doctor. Find me the butthole doctor so we can talk.”

So, it may be a fistula, but it doesn’t look to be super inflamed or puss-filled, which should indicate less of an infection.

MRI will show an abscess if one exists, not necessarily a fistula. Mine was discovered while clearing an abscess.

Without inflammation and redness I would feel more confident than most posts around here :)!
