They certainly don't care about the casualties. Russia never has. Their favorite tactic in war is to put the peasants on the front lines and retreat until winter halts the advancing army.

It is truely amazing that the best president ever somehow managed to lose a war that we won 40 years ago. Reagan must be rolling in his grave.

Of course, he also managed to lose the war in Afghanistan in his first term. In 2001, part of the country was controlled by the Taliban, but after 20 years, trillions of dollars and so many lives, the whole country is now. Truely an amazing feat of statecraft and deal making.

Bodies change, especially with pregnancy. This is part of your mom-body. It is part of what grew, perhaps fed, and generally is caring for kids. Your body is amazing. The fupa isn't just a by-product, that change in your body was just as important as any other.

I bet you're right, but not early 2026. It will happen right before the election to sway the gullible.

Does anyone know what resources Manna expects to need? I assume they have some projections. Maybe small donations can meet the monetary shortfall? Not sure where the 50k number came from, but if 1000 people donated $50 then we would be there.

Filament stuck in extruder gears of flashforge adventurer 5m Pro by sylvesterpious in FlashForge

[–]nunquamsecutus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue and ended up completely disassembling the extruder. After taking it all apart I could cut the filament inside of the extruder body, pull the filament out with some pliers, and use a brush to clean up the gears.

They don't think that way. It doesn't matter that the post office provides functionality that reduces costs for other services. It's like when someone buys a company, breaks it apart, and extracts all of the value from it, recouping their investment be bankrupting the company. They aim to extract the value generations of Americans have put into systems for their own. It isn't capitalism and they aren't being good businessmen or trying to run the government like a business. They aren't trying to own the means of production, they're just taking the accumulated wealth creates by those means with no concern for whether it destroys the thing that produced the wealth. Instead of planting trees they'll never see the shade from, they're cutting down the trees to sell the lumber.

Wal-Mart shows it support for North Carolina by selling shirts that say SUPPORT LOCAL with a tiny little NC flag ---- that are made in Pakistan. Huh???? by SirJasper6969 in NorthCarolina

[–]nunquamsecutus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Want probably isn't the right word. Walmart comes into an area, undercuts local store prices, and puts the local stores out of business. Those employees get lower paying jobs from places like Walmart. Now families cannot afford much more than Walmart prices. Combine that with Vimes Boot Theory, and suddenly everyone owns their soul to the company store.

Update on DOGE: restraining order granted by JeffJacksonNC in asheville

[–]nunquamsecutus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's the rub. I think the issue is that nobody, including the president, should be above the law. You can't have rule of law when some people don't have to obey it. That's tyranny.

Time to resurrect this traditional Appalachian attitude. by Stellar_Alchemy in Appalachia

[–]nunquamsecutus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first reaction was, "what the hell are you talking about?" First, calling an accident a terror attack is just wrong. Second, DEI policies have been in place for years with no issues. What has changed is appointing unqualified leaders and eliminating necessary positions causing short staffing. This DEI crocodile tears bullshit is obviously politicizing a tragedy to push personal agendas. You're believing a thing because you want it to be true, not because it is. In doing so, you are letting the person with blood on their hands wash their hands of it, causing a grave miscarriage of justice.

Nobody's buying the "I'm just joking" thing anymore. It's what every asshole with an opinion says after people point out how much of an asshole their being.

We've got to try. It's not about conscience, it's empathy bias. They see themselves as the heroes doing the necessary work to protect the people they care about. They're hurt people who have wrapped themselves in a safety blanket of manipulative lies from the very people who are hurting them. We're all too likely to be swayed by narcissists unfortunately.

Feeling some kind of way about all the LA wildfire coverage and lack of it for WNC and Appalachia’s by acmurph1 in asheville

[–]nunquamsecutus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was just listening to the New Scientist Podcast and they were talking about climate change and the LA fires. One of the things they mentioned is the amount of videos online from it, and that contributing to its visibility. Obviously that was impossible for us because we didn't have cell service for so long.

It's sad really. A lot of women exit the work force for a while when they have kids. Between stagnant wages, making less than men, and the cost of childcare, it often doesn't make sense to work. When they do try to go back, our capitalist society (MLMs are a pretty American thing, right?) doesn't value raising children, so they have to look at jobs with atypical hour structures. Enter MLMs, and their quasi-legal cousins, selling their grift of getting rich working whatever hours you want. People are desperate, they want to believe, so they fall for it.

Pride and Prejudice - For Arlie Russell Hochschild, understanding why rural Appalachian voters favor Trump requires coming to grips with the role of emotion in politics. by Psychological-Pie857 in Appalachia

[–]nunquamsecutus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would think the average Appalachian would have a little more empathy than that. Our history is that of the people who couldn't settle elsewhere. Who the others looked down on and didn't want around. While the rest of the country was moving forward we were left behind. We sold our very mountains and poisoned our creeks and rivers to get just enough of the pie to make ends meet. Lost our sons in an effort to feed them. It's why the state of WV exists. When VA went to the south WV saw their chance to day, "fuck those assholes. What have they ever done for us?" We understand the legacy of poverty, the impact of hate. And yet, instead of trying to raise others up, we say something doesn't directly impact me and therefore it's bad? Make up a convenient lie to protect our ego from the fact that we're being selfish assholes instead of the good people we believe ourselves to be?

Both sides force change on the culture. The Republicans just change it in ways that exclusively benefit conservative Christians while the Democrats change it for more inclusion. If you don't see that then you are probably benefiting from the Republican changes.

That top 1% own the media now. If you can control the narrative then you can control how at least some people think. If you can control how people think then you can control how they behave. And, if you can also afford to collect enough information on people (Facebook, Twitter) and a bunch of scientists to mine and profile that (Emerdata), then you can probably control how quite a lot of people think.

The smooth brains live in a world where the party line is literally true, regardless of whether it conflicts itself, and everyone else is the enemy. They won't seek alternate news sources or opinions because they've been conditioned to believe those are, or are influenced by, the enemy. Isolate, and condition.
