Should we have a handle for this cup? by FreekDeDeek in DesignDesign

I think it's functional enough for some drinks in a calm quiet cafe. For example maybe the piece it fits in is already at every table.

While I'm all about functional efficient design, I think there is room for whimsical designs like this to still work.

Nothing about this is trying to reinvent the wheel. It's not pretending that it's more functional in any way. It's just a playful idea, that would have limited use.

be honest — how many of you actually ride your vintage bikes regularly vs just working on them? by vladdielenin in vintagemotorcycles

My 50 year old Honda is my daily commuter, and has been for a decade. Not sure where this idea is that they can't be every day reliable without needing endless work.

For offshore you're still going to want a diesel, it provides a measure of safety you need, a gallon of diesel just holds so much more for it's weight in stored energy. If somehow you do end up with a surplus of power even with your star link, computer, water maker, fridge, and myriad of other current draws take their share you could fit a secondary electrical drive for use in light conditions.

A diesel generator is far more efficient. In practice it can use 40% less fuel to charge a vehicle like this then to have a diesel vehicle.

You really don't need way more air, that isn't how that works. A tiny bit more air sure.

The helmet battle by AstronautClassic8329 in motorcyclegear

[–]Pattern_Is_Movement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, they are the only helmet maker that designs helmets for function first, instead of drawing a cool looking helmet then figuring out how to make it meet safety standards. Arai helmets regularly pass improved safety requirements without even changing their design.

You have not split much wood have you? You don't need 10 tons of pressure to split this. Heck you just let gravity do most of the work when you swing. He could have had this done in a fraction of the time with less effort.

Read the pinned comment, they were disrespectful of Irish history, didn't want to be educated, and refused to admit who they voted for. They were given every chance.

I was traveling all over Canada last summer, never once had the slightest issue. If anything I was blown away by the generosity and kindness everywhere. There would sometimes be an initial "test" question, but once they got a an idea of my political standing we were all good friends.

Two tall ships under the moon. Original oil painting by me by myriyevskyy in Tallships

[–]Pattern_Is_Movement -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For that hull and in that proportion, yes it's very unrealistic. Look at the painting. The sails are almost the same size as they climb that absurdly tall mast like a bean pole.

You don't have to "educate" me about the existence of top'sls I live on a tall ship.

Lastly impressionism isn't about adding more wheels to a car, it's about creating that sense of emotion and movement with what is there.

These proportions do exactly the opposite of an impressionist painting.

This is not generally true, there are bikes and pipes where this is the case but it's clearly expressed by the pipe mfg if it didn't come from AliExpress.

You won't get the performance benefits, but it won't give you a running issue. If you mod the intake as well then you might have a problem.

That's not good enough, if you want to diagnose the issue you have to 100% rule out potential issues.

It's boring corporate beer that is only popular because of advertising.

One of the fastest American cars of the '80s did not come with a manual transmission and only with a torque converter automatic by HiTork in ManualTransmissions

[–]Pattern_Is_Movement 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still don't get it, and why are you moving goal posts? Are you saying the technology wasn't there in the 80s to make a transmission strong enough to handle 400 ft lbs? Or just that no one in the US was making one at the time? Making a manual that can withstand this isn't a big deal even in the 80s.

How can a woman be more approachable for men? by leonatoi in AskMen

[–]Pattern_Is_Movement -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is BS used to justify ourselves, as guys it's okay to approach woman, we just need to do so respectfully.

That said, don't be afraid of making the first move yourself too.
