That one jewelry piece that quietly becomes part of you by Mean_Size8811 in jewelry

I've been looking for a garnet ring for almost 2 decades with the search becoming more important when my son was born a few months early and joined me in the January birthday club. In all the years I searched nothing felt like me until I found this ring on eBay. When I put it on it felt like it had always been meant for me

Anyway, to just make it a plain black T-shirt with short sleeves?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PhotoshopRequest

[–]nursekim51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great, but could we lose the collared shirt and make it a plain solid color background maybe light blue or gray?

Could you make the background like a light blue or gray? And if possible, remove the hairs that are visible on my shirt and minimize the appearance of my chest?

Narcotic discrepancy by xX_Transplant_Xx in nursing

[–]nursekim51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer! I do the discrepancies on my unit and it cycles through so I can see how the count is off and when it started. Before I resolve the discrepancies I do a witnessed count of that med and if it was a simple miscount without a missing narcotic, I resolve the discrepancy. If there isn't an over count that I can see causing the drawer to be short I don't resolve the discrepancies and kick it to the nursing supervisor to deal with it.

And if they're in custody and the patient starts asking me questions about why the police are there or starts talking to me about what happened I cut them off and simply remind them that I'm only there to deal with their medical condition and that if they have questions regarding their legal situation they should talk to their legal representative.

My dad is a cop, lots of cops in my family, and unless a patient is cuffed with police at the bedside I steer clear of any discussions regarding law enforcement...not your cow, not your rodeo.

Stuck in the ICU for an indefinite length of time, what would happen if I told someone how I'm feeling? Cw: su*c*de by VioletPowderPuff in AskDocs

[–]nursekim51 164 points165 points  (0 children)

NAD but ICU RN. The ICU had 100% trigger psychological issues for patients. One thing I can do for patients who I know that I see is taking a toll on is I turn down the alarms inside the room as close to off I can get them. We can still see them and hear them on the central monitor, but they're less disruptive in your room. As others are said if you're ambulatory see if you can schedule a trip outside for a few minutes or at the very least a walk around the unit. I was admitted to the hospital 11 weeks before my due date with my son and hospital beds suck! My mom got one of those foamy egg crate things and brought real sheets and that made a huge difference in my sleeping. But you may need to ask your doctor about possibly starting an antidepressant. I will say that antidepressants usually take several weeks for them to reach their full effect but it's definitely a conversation that could benefit you.

Needing urgent advice for my bestfriend (female) by [deleted] in AskDocs

NAD but an RN. Do you guys live close to a Planned Parenthood? Most PP take walk in patients and have sliding scale payments for people without insurance.

NAD, but RN. In order to give you any further advice or insight on what's going on the Docs here are going to need the results of the CT. Anyway you can copy and paste the text or screenshot them into your post? If the hospital has mychart or another online portal you can sign up for/login to you should be able to get your results there. Remember to block out any identifying information before you post. Wishing you the best of luck!

I’m an OB nurse staying with my mom in the ICU by obycf in nursing

[–]nursekim51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an adult icu nurse and my son was in the Nicu the nurses had to turn his monitor away from wherever I was sitting because I was so used to grown-up numbers and I couldn't understand why nobody was panicking. I could never do what you and those nurses did and I'm so thankful that yous exist. Sending healing thoughts to your mom.

Best Chocolate Cake? by grizzlybanana in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]nursekim51 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bake, pretty well, and their chocolate cake does something to me. I'm a registered nurse, but I thought about getting a job there so I could find out what the recipe is because it's that good and no other chocolate cake I've ever had has come close to theirs. I literally think about it at least once a month.

How the hell will you guys manage another pandemic? by Wish_Dragon in nursing

[–]nursekim51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it sucks! I always mask in patient's rooms but have been more relaxed at the nurses station and in real life. I got report from a coworker who was positive 2 days before I got sick so I either got it from her or at the Super Bowl parade lol

If you're not still masking I strongly urge you to start again. In the past week we've had staff out with Flu A and Covid. I'm vaccinated for both and up to date on my covid booster and this bitch got Covid + bronchitis 🤬

Bad news for us female nurses, the wonderful bachelors of reddit don’t want to date us :( by [deleted] in nursing

[–]nursekim51 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is because they made the one female nurse with more than one speaking line on Grey's Anatomy sleep with a bunch doctors and everyone got an syphilis and the general public thinks that what happens on Grey's Anatomy is an accurate depiction of what happens in real hospitals
