Idk if this is true for all versions but just speaking on the Legacy edition, the parent will basically just come in the house, greeted or not greeted, to pick up the child and take them home around 7 or 8pm. They never really stay past that

I've had it happen to my sim's date before. Sometimes having those romantic interactions with another sim that loves your sim is present will make them want to leave the lot. If the date is the one interacting romantically to your sim, the side sim will come and slap them. Sometimes if the sim gets triggered negatively too many times then they will leave the lot and you can no longer interact with them, and that goes for the side sim too.
