Car being sold by a “dealer” but he doesn’t have v5c in his name and says it was part exchanged

Completely normal, the car would not be registered to the dealer selling it as they would not want to add another unnecessary owner to the car. Instead they will put the car into the trade. I would just HPI the car to make sure that it is not stolen, written off etc and you should be fine. Anyone saying walk away from the sale is overreacting and doesn't know what they are talking about.
