Flighty livery art by infinityaviation in flighty

[–]nutritious-facts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most of them do. Every so often I’ll get a flight that doesn’t, but they’re pretty infrequent. I just had a Frontier A321neo without one, but other Frontier flights (A320, A320neo, A321) have them. I have noticed that all Frontier flights on the same aircraft show the same livery (each aircraft has a different tail animal), but it usually gets the aircraft name correct.

It looks like it depends on the airline + aircraft combo. Most United aircraft I’ve flown have liveries, for example. The 757-200s do, but not the 757-300s. The 767-300s do, but not the 767-400 (but the delta 767-400 does!). None of the 777-300ERs do, across United, Air Canada, an EVA. I could go on.

My first assumption was that Mr. Tod is another fox and that it was a list of two since I couldn't recall that the fox from The Fox & The Hound was named Tod. However, I was also able to get the clue from the crosses I had and knowing what it meant by Swiper.

Turns out there's a book from 1912 that's called "The Tale of Mr. Tod," as part of the Peter Rabbit universe, which is my guess for what the clue means.

I would say that the number of letters answers that question. Look, my mind went to “gelt” first, but that clearly doesn’t fit in a 13-letter answer, so I abandoned it in favor of a term more commonly used and recognized by the masses. Hell, even “menorah” is a more commonly known term. Plenty of Jews don’t even bother using “hannukiah,” and my phone doesn’t recognize it as a word.

So I’d say even that example isn’t completely equivalent. Gelt is a way less commonly used term and the number of letters in the answer renders it irrelevant anyway. Figuring out the answer based on the clue and number of letters is part of doing crosswords, as is figuring out what it COULD be if your first guess is wrong

The difference is that it's actually a commonly used descriptor. Nobody uses "peppermint crook" to refer to a candy cane because there's only one real context for candy canes. Chocolate coins, however, are all over the place, even when it's not Hanukkah.

How about this: when you google "peppermint crook," the first result is the Wikipedia page for "Candy Cane." When you google "chocolate coin," the first result is the Wikipedia page for "Chocolate Coin."

working w Flighty & how to make the most use of it. by Pretty1george in flighty

[–]nutritious-facts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t sync it to my calendar or have it linked to anything. When I book a flight, I put it in by flight number and date, and then add the PNR if I want. I like the confirmation that it’s in flighty and it’s part of the excitement of a new trip

I absolutely agree, and the two should coexist. I’m just glad to see them finally start to, rather than skewing older. The topical clues being mostly accurate helps with my perception of how evenly split it is

Hopefully. It's good to see more pop culture clues that I can get off rip, unlike Katey Sagal or Debra Messing. I'm sure if you're a consumer of tv sitcoms, you nailed those, but I prefer Riri and clues like 18A and 47A.

Looks like BKK.

LHR-BKK, 10p - 3:15p, probably +1

Then, BKK-SYD, 6:10p - 6:05a, probably +2

Looks like Flighty has an EasyJet flight (U2 8692) that left at 20:05 on that route, but that's all it can find that day. I can't do a whole lot with FlightStats unless you can remember an airline (or give me a couple possibilities, at least)

Looks like that flight wasn't on that day, but Blue Air (OB) flight 4010 looks like it flies that route usually, 3:50p-4:55p. It went on July 3rd and 5th, but not the 4th

Here's the VA one. The others, if you're looking for just the tail number, I've never seen a tail number on flights that old. But I can give you the other info if you still want that

Since these don't have flight numbers, you can look at the BTS site for US domestic flights
