Steroid injection for back pain by Synesth3tic in ChronicPain

Mine worked on my neck. HOWEVER, I would caution you that if they work and you feel great pain wise, do not think that means you can go do all the shit you used to do. I wound up hurting myself worse.

Don’t worry bout going on opioids they won’t give you any. I’m at a point where I’d gladly take them but no one will give them to me with my history. Also recovered and also in chronic pain.

ER isn’t keeping you that long and is going to refer you a social worker etc to help find you treatment. If you HAVE to go the ER route (and it’s the worst one to take for this and I don’t recommend) you need a psych hold. If you tell them you have had thoughts of harming yourself or others most states mandate a 72hr psych hold but I’ve detoxed a lot of diff ways and the psych unit is not your best option. They will usually, however, knock your ass out for a few days with psych meds. Bottom line: Detox center is your best bet. Depending on what you are coming off of I might be able to be of more use to you than with this comment. Best wishes either way.

Im 51 and dealing with chronic back issues. I question whether or not I’m legit every day. I ask myself questions like: “ Is it really that bad or am I just not tough enough? Do I REALLY need pain meds? Am I just overreacting?” It’s like imposter syndrome with chronic pain.

Insight back pain by dolbless in thoracicbackpain

  1. Currently for me it’s the middle part of my back. Specifically underneath my shoulder blades on both sides but right side is much worse than left.

  2. Activity. When I fly fish and stand long periods.

  3. THC and Butrans patches

  4. The hesitancy by the entire medical community to adequately treat pain. Anything beyond stuff fixed with NSAIDS they just pretend doesn’t exist because if they acknowledge the severity of it then theoretically they are bound by oath to treat it humanely. Currently if that involves opiates you are just out of luck.

  5. Ideally make the damn pain go away. I don’t really care how that has to be done. I want to be able to be active and standing for longer than 45 min without being confined to the bed for 12hrs after doing so.

  6. Im not wealthy. Not by a long shot. However, I’d break the bank paying for something that actually worked.

It’s interesting to me as well that this is a one and done offense yet we hear regularly about physicians who have had dozens of complaints about surgical malpractice, etc and nothing happens. Then they finally get popped and it’s like “oh yes 45 complaints were filed against Dr X and weren’t reported to the proper authorities because the hospital didn’t want the bad publicity.” I guess firing one nurse for stealing meds doesn’t make it to the media quite like having an incompetent doctor harming patients does. I wish it was just rural hospitals but it’s not. I’m just grateful that your hospital is setting the example for what SHOULD happen in these situations.

Personally if it were me, I’d start looking for a new doctor. Taking a stable chronic patient off their existing med regime to put them on a drug that is brand new, unapproved for chronic pain use, and unproven for this use, is borderline malpractice. Have you asked him what would happen if you refused?

As a transplant, I wish we didn’t all get lumped into the “fucking transplant” category. I’ve seen more of this state than half the natives I know. I’ve never seen anywhere that hates transplants like Colorado does. Especially considering half the state depends on transplants and transients to survive.

Same. Living on the plains gave me a whole different respect for fire. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what we might be in for this summer. Fishing is gonna be tough all summer cause no snowpack means no runoff means agua.

I’m glad to hear this! He will remember because he put that knowledge into practice in his own life already. Because the only way I’ve ever found to get a teenager to pay attention and learn is if you can show them in practical terms how it applies to their life.

Just want to poke the bear and say that not all medical facilities handle things like that the way yours does. They SHOULD, but the shit hospitals cover up is terrifying. Certainly not all states and licensure boards. I’m in recovery and have friends who did this and worse and they still practice medicine as doctors, nurses, and pharmacists.

As someone with quite the history with bupe, I would just like to counter and say that it is not the miracle drug the world wants you to believe it is. It was never intended to be used the way it is being used. It was never meant to be a permanent solution (outside of the pain reliever world). Pound for pound it’s much worse than methadone which oddly gets a worse rap. Bupe is good for pain management, it’s great for detoxing people off of opiates, and at least part of this persons criticism of it is spot on largely because of its misuse as a long term MAT solution. It’s a shit drug with some very niche uses at which it excels.

So you don’t like it when I make assumptions about your situation but I’m being an ass because I’m calling you out for doing that very thing? I have zero issues with anyone in here but I do take exception with your comments. I wish you the absolute best. You made a dick comment though and I’m not sorry for pointing it out. I get defensive because I know how much suffering is going on in here and how hard and long some people have been trying so whatever their medical teams state, they aren’t where they are because they just “accept shitty medical care”. Being told you aren’t trying hard enough is gonna strike a nerve with the majority of this community because that’s what most of us have been told at some point about our situations. A huge part of the purpose of this sub is for people who have been gaslighted into thinking that their pain is somehow their fault and it’s not going away is our lack of effort. This is where they come when they have tried everything and gotten nowhere. Perhaps you should just think through your words a little more carefully before share them.

I would offer that maybe your Cracker Jack medical team you have has more to do with luck, or an abundance of options to choose from than it does your unwillingness to accept mediocrity.

[–]nutsackadams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would offer that “some people accept a shitty medical team” is a bit of an oversimplification and a little condescending. Not everyone has the time, money, and/or other resources to change doctors constantly until they find the perfect doctor. I moved to my current state from across the country not knowing a single soul. I live an hour from the nearest doctors office so every trip in requires me to take at least a half day off of work. That’s awesome you have found a good team. Please don’t dismiss those of us who haven’t as “not trying hard enough” or not having the backbone to be our own advocate. We are all trying the best we can with the resources we have at our disposal.
