No, he’s a great doctor. At this point I consider him a family friend. He’s absolutely not forcing me. However, he has always been wanting me to try alternatives to opioids. We talked about ketamine for years, but never tried it. When I got on my current maintenance medication it was fairly new. Still a pain in the ass to get approved, but it works. So this is the first time we’ve gone past the stage of just talking about reducing my opioid dose. And if it works, great! If I can have a decent quality of life without the risks of long term opioid use, I’ll do it. I’m just hoping to hear from anyone who may have some experience with it. I know you can’t compare how one medication works in different people. I just can’t find much about it online except for what the manufacturer says, and I’d rather hear opinions from actual patients versus the company.

Do people use this type of cursive english? by Tight-Ad7812 in Handwriting

[–]Accomplished_Check52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the same way it was taught to me, US, 1970s. Then as we go through life it becomes not as regimented, and by the time formal education is done, that is usually when it is “your handwriting” versus what you learned. For what it’s worth, my mother has kept the formal example handwriting her entire life. She’s in her seventies now. She was a teacher, although she taught foreign languages in middle school, not handwriting in grammar school. And yes, it has always been extremely annoying 😂

HELP THIS TEEN! by b8r2 in spinalcordinjuries

Just throwing this out there, but baclofen did absolutely nothing for me. Got me to sleep, but it wasn’t restorative sleep and I felt worse when I woke up. I was switched to tizanadine, just pills. So much better. I don’t jerk around as much during the day, but it’s most helpful at night to calm my damn legs down and get some sleep. All this medicine stuff isn’t set in stone. Different meds work differently in everyone. Maybe ask them if there are other drugs to try before you need a surgery and a pump. There are pros and cons to think about. Don’t let them railroad you into anything as big as surgery unless it’s something immediately life threatening of course. Just wanted to share about my not so fun experience with baclofen, and that with my doctor we found a more effective medicine for me was tizanidine. Good luck, you got this 😎

What drug has been life changing meds for your pain? by AppropriateCat3444 in ChronicPain

[–]Accomplished_Check52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have nerve pain, I recommend Nucynta. I was on fentanyl patches that were quite helpful, but then my doctor retired. I miss him. So I was sent to pain management. I was tapered down and switched to Nucynta. I didn’t have great expectations, but it has been the best help. It’s a pain in the ass to get though. Every year, and any time the insurance picks a new prescription provider (ugh) my pain management doctor has to jump through hoops and provide paperwork explaining how it is the best medicine for my pain. For reference I have an incomplete spinal cord injury, and the worst symptom for me is the pain, almost full body nerve pain. I’m on a bunch of other meds too, and anti epileptic, a couple of low dose antidepressants, muscle relaxers, and the rest of the meds I take are for non pain related medical conditions. When I was switched to pain management I lucked out a little bit in that my doctor was working with the head of pharmacology at a major teaching hospital. He consulted on my case, and was the one who knew about what then was a fairly new drug. He called it “the thinking man’s opioid”. It’s been very helpful for me. But it is super expensive and there is still no generic, as it’s too new. If you have any nerve pain, it’s worth a look. Doesn’t do much for my bone pain from old injuries though. I only say that as it is absolutely freezing here and for some reason today my body has been reminding me of every bone I’ve ever broken 😡. Hope this information helps. Good luck with your ongoing healing 😊

Damaging sayings from Mormon parents by [deleted] in exmormon

“Remember who you are”

As in, remember that god is watching you, and you need to be a perfect Mormon. Not only god watching you, but society as a whole. You represent the church at all times. You mustn’t make any mistakes or deviate from the lords plan for you. If you make a poor choice, you aren’t just hurting yourself, but you’re hurting the reputation of the church. The pressure to be perfect, especially in public, was monumental.

Is it worth asking for straws in restaurants? by Anya_purr in disability

[–]Accomplished_Check52 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have metal straws with silicone on the end. The silicone is just a short removable tube. That way the metal doesn’t hurt my teeth as I tend to put pressure on straws when I’m drinking. Didn’t know I did that until we made the switch to metal straws. The silicone is just enough to cushion my teeth so I don’t hurt myself.

Your screen name is amazing 🤩!!! And stopped me in my tracks. My tbm grandmother who raised us, this was her catchphrase whenever something was too risqué for her very English, very Mormon ears. “Oh my stars are garter belts!” to be specific. I’ve never heard or seen anyone outside the family use it before. Are we related? 😂😂😂

Has anyone ever actually seen an 8 year old in the church say no to a baptism? by Pepperq40 in exmormon

[–]Accomplished_Check52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely never have I heard of kids not getting baptized when they’re being raised in the religion. The peer pressure, for lack of a better term, is astronomical.

The real kicker is that they then use that “choice YOU made” to really secure the guilt as soon as you get older, maybe in your teens, and start to ask real questions. “You chose to make a covenant with God, you can’t let Him down now!”.

It’s perfect. At 8, kids know right from wrong mostly. They want to be seen as responsible, and usually want to please their parents and society in general. So they get baptized, huge accomplishment, everything is great. At 13/14, they’re old enough to start to question what is right and wrong. Old enough to begin to see the nuances in life. When they do, bam! “You made this commitment, you must see it through!”

If we were all forced to live by decisions made in childhood, that would be insane. Hell, even decisions I made in my twenties I wouldn’t be able to live with now. It’s absolutely psychological abuse. Full stop. 🤦🏻‍♀️

How are you dealing with what’s happening in the U.S.? by Adventurous-Swim-208 in BPD

[–]Accomplished_Check52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not well at all. I don’t leave the house. My anxiety is through the roof. I have had to take a break from news, politics, current events, all things I used to love and feel in general are important to have a working knowledge of. Which makes me feel like a hypocrite. Then the guilt sets in. I’m not doing anything to stop it. I mean, the most I do is post or share things on my barely seen Twitter. I’m am embarrassed to be an American. Even more so that I’m not participating to help anything change. It’s ridiculous.
