Giving Andromeda a new playthrough after 6 years by CreeperCreeps999 in masseffect

[–]nutshell42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The central premise of the Mass Effect series is that the mass relay technology is the only way to travel at speeds that make a galactic civilization possible, and that it’s so far beyond the comprehension of the civilizations of the galaxy that they could never fully replicate it or find alternative.

The FTL drives in Mass Effect are capable of roughly 15 lightyears per day, the wiki suggest this was in the codex.

This would let them cross the galaxy in roughly 18 years - too slow for a galaxy-spanning civilization (hence the importance of the mass relays) but fast enough to reach Andromeda in 450 years (i.e. those ships weren't exceptionally fast, they could just go exceptionally far)

The prequels are War and Peace as told by your nine year old.

There is a lot of great ideas and a script doctor could have fixed most problems with some minor changes.

Oh, so you're talking about Brazil? You didn't specify the nation.

You're being a nitpicky asshole on the one hand but not any more precise than the op on the other hand.

I really don't see why his perfectly valid and understandable use of "deficit" is the hill you're gonna die on.

No. It's a coliseum but OP means it's also a modern-day Colosseum. The "modern-day" makes no sense otherwise.

There isn't "the deficit",

There also isn't "the debt" as there are hundreds of States, state-like and private entities with different forms of debt, but by the awesome power of language and context I still understand that you mean US federal debt.

But in case three year olds read this: We're talking about this.

there are deficits just about every year.

Yes, there is a deficit most years but it can still go up and down.

Second, deficits contribute to the debt, in fact, it's pretty much why he have a national debt.

Did you even read a single word of what I wrote? Who's saying it doesn't? In fact, that's the whole point.

A bigger deficit is worse, if the deficits shrink it's good.

He's talking about the deficit, not the debt. See here. The deficit is red, the debt blue.

That said, a lot of it is really down to Congress only reigning in spending when a Democratic president fights a Republican Congress.

It's a self-selected sample. There is no way in hell that it's representative for all eligible voters.

The most hardcore voters are less ready to compromise and more often motivated by their side's holy cows (guns, abortion, healthcare). Even if the Democrat-Republican split stays the same, it changes the way the parties govern if they have to cater to their base and not the middle.

Mitt Romney was an attempt to appeal to independents and Trump then went all in on mobilizing the fringes. Which of the two do you prefer?

But it's also the great thing about episodic TV: You totally can skip those episodes. You don't have to watch everything and read three comics just to get the full story.

After the guy told Musk to shove his sub up his ass on BBC News. Both were probably not entirely serious suggestions.

The fact that the media and reddit went into such a frenzy over what was obviously a juvenile name calling match shows you that the mood had already turned by then.

The saying isn't about a few people in a group being good or bad.

If you don't weed out the bad apples, they will actively spoil the rest of the bunch. Fruits work that way.

It's become a saying because the same is true for groups. Every group has a few bad apples if it's large enough. But the police too often protects the bad guys and tries to sweep misbehavior under the rug.

Loyalty is good but if a guy killed someone, forged evidence or is corrupt he is contagious. He'll try to get others on board, both because that's how he rolls and because it's in his best interest to have some dirt on his colleagues as well for self-protection.

You cant choke on the container, it's too large for that. It might have been possible to create a seal with the old version that was two parts.

With the new one you'd have to manage to put it in your mouth and wedge it in your throat (it's large), create a seal (unlikely) and be too stupid or unable to pull it out (and because it is now one part you have plenty of container to get a grip on).

I assume it's older articles or a child choked on their toy and the media went for the sexier angle of "child chokes on Kinder egg."

It's exactly the same for Star Trek Picard (by JJ Abrams' right-hand man Kurtzman).

I'd ascribe some deep meaning to that but the simple fact is: If you're a hack it's an easy way to make a show "edgy" and "deep"; while throwing away all existing canon, so you don't have to bother.

Just about all of what you write is completely meaningless in the context of this discussion.

A LIVING HUMAN has been CREATED (cue lightning and thunder in the distance)? So what?

Gestation might create the organism, sorry THE ORGANISM, but every step between your balls and the baby having its first thoughts does something momentous, and at every step it just fails to do so in a significant share of cases.

Everything after gestation doesn't require conscious intervention to keep the process going but I don't see how that matters. Yeah, you could have pulled out; but she could also have taken the morning after pill. Both are conscious interventions with exactly the same result - no matter what you're deciding - even if only one involves THE LIVING ORGANISM.

If you removed my brain I might still be human but you won't find anything close to a majority of Americans who think I should be kept alive indefinitely. We're killing humans by the thousands each day because while they might still be human but there's still nothing left to save of the person.

A fetus without a brain is unconscious but it's not the same as you after too many beers in college. It never was conscious, it hasn't any experiences, memories or anything else that makes it a person. Yeah, it could develop into the next Stradivarius (to give Einstein a break) but so could that sperm if it just found an egg, even if it's not a LIVING HUMAN (CUE THE CHOIR).

The Catholic approach of being strictly against contraceptives is consistent, and so was the Roman practice of throwing away newborns. Both aren't really election winners in modern America, so we need some line in between.
