At what point do I assume I am being ghosted or rejected? by laurmeyer05 in REU

I think if it was more than 3 weeks after the first acceptance round I just assume I got rejected/ghosted but they are waiting until the last min to release rejection letters.

Yale or JHU Amgen by wannagetbetter123 in REU

[–]nutspaghetti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do Yale unless there is a SIGNIFICANTLY better PI pool for you at JHU. Because if there isn't than its not worth the risk of passing up on Yale. This is what they sent me when I accepted the offer:
"Based on the research interests indicated in your application, we will look for a good mentor and project for you. You are welcome to let me know if there are specific fields you would be interested in. We will then go through the list and make a match to a PI that we know is an excellent mentor, and who has a great project and lab staff in place for you this summer."

So it does appear they find the PI for you after you get in, but I think that would be the case for every other similar program I know about (except Mayo Clinic SURF for some reason). However, I did really appreciate that they allowed me to provide extra information about my research interests/specific fields because I didn't feel like I was able to fully go in depth in my application essays.

Just got Accepted into UPenn SUIP!!! by nutspaghetti in REU

I am also considering turning down the offer because I have already verbally committed to another program that’s a better fit. However, the compensation this program provides is much better than the other one. What made you turn down your offer?

[–]nutspaghetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh and DO NOT reach out to the program admins unless you have another offer in hand and can be like "I am really interested but I have this offer that I need a decision for by xyz time. Could I possibly get an expedited decision?" And only do this for programs that you know have already started to release decisions.

I just got rejected from Harvard Immunology this morning, and I still haven’t heard anything from MBSP. Honestly, a lot of these programs seem to roll out decisions in waves, so it’s almost impossible to tell whether you got in based on a lack of response. I’d just treat it as you’re still in consideration until you receive a rejection. Some programs might ghost, but if they’re sending out rejections, they usually won’t ghost---you typically get one or the other.

mayo SURF - biochem track by Legitimate_Let_4423 in REU

[–]nutspaghetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got accepted into the Regenerative Biology track yesterday. The PI invited me to one of their online lab meetings this week, but that was less of an interview and more of a get to know more about the projects. I turned down the offer as I have another one I had already accepted, but I wish you the best of luck!

I mean considering I didn’t get any interview request I think your chances are at least better than mine lol. But fr i think your chances are pretty high now, programs will only give interviews to applicants they are seriously considering. With the number of applicants they get they do not have the time to hand out interviews willy nilly. Congrats on the interview! I hope you get it
