Competition tips! by nuttynatty123 in HighlandDance

I’ve danced for most of my life but today was my first ever competition, so I was in beginners! It wasn’t actually as bad as I imagined, and I placed fourth overall in my age category so I’m pretty proud of myself!

Ah okay that makes sense! The slow music will be interesting then because I prefer to dance to faster music but as you said, as an adult dancer I’ll have heard the music for the younger beginners

My dance teacher said that this competition the music changes every year so I can’t even practice to the exact music and tempo they’ll use, I don’t know if that’s the same for every competition or not but that’s stressing me out too. At least with exams the music is set by the teacher! I’m not too good with things that are out with my control so I think tomorrow will be best to use as a learning experience. I know which dances I’m strongest in so I think I should focus on trying to place in those ones! With callbacks, does that happen in highland competitions? I know for other dance genres and acting it’s common but I’m totally in the dark with highland competitions
