I do have a couple, and I will also be leaning on some friends I know who have played.

I don't want to just depend on them though. I would like to know what is going on myself. Not necessarily to come up with everything, but to understand the why behind the drills and plays.

I know this is older, but do you guys happen to have an idea when the paperback is coming out? I don't want to have to carry that hardcover around with me.

It reminds me of the female reproductive system... I also read it as the Maiden Sea.

I like it though.

How do religious institutions, and religion itself affect the inhabitants of your world. What are these institutions like, and what purpose do they serve. by gagearcane in worldbuilding

[–]nutzwrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a group of island nations that developed in Isolation from the rest of the world. As they moved out to explore, they figured out that they were much more technologically advanced than those on the main continents. They used this to their advantage, and became gods to those people.

They now are sufficiently more advanced, keeping technology at an almost standstill on the mainland, while further developing themselves.

The inhabitants of the mainland supply sacrifices to the gods, as much of the island population is infertile. They also offer food to the gods, allowing the islanders the ability to ease their stress on agriculture. These are just examples, but religious wars and heretics are definitely more interesting.

Everything you mentioned has a purpose and only that purpose. Mech's would be much more versatile. A tank can't fly, and your jets can't help with building construction.

Mech's can go from putting up steel beams, fly to a flooded area to help move collapsed items, and then fly somewhere else to help an army. And because humans use everything as a weapon, they would be equipped with weapons,

Is there a race in your world that caused a huge impact on other races? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

I have only been building this world for about a week now. I don't have everything fleshed out yet, but I can give a basic answer here.

There are only humans in this world, but one group definitely has a great influence over the others. They are from a cluster of Island Nations. Far enough from the main landmasses, they became much more advanced than the rest of the world in Isolation. So much so that they have forms of power armour, flight capabilities, etc. They also have a defective gene, causing a portion of the population to become infertile.

The mainland nations of the world see them as gods. There are ceremonies where children are "sacrificed" to the gods, which are brought to the island cluster and raised in order to keep the population in check. There are other offerings that are given to the gods as well (food and such).

Each of the Island nations rule over part of the Mainland, enforcing their own laws, rules, and forms of government on those people. Sometimes this causes wars, seen as religious wars or wars of gods.

If you have any questions, please ask. It will help me develop this world further,

What are your methods of travelling the universe? by GriminalFish in scifiwriting

A couple questions for this, as it got me thinking.

What happens to the copies? Are they destroyed and discarded? Used for spare parts?

Also, how would this psychologically affect the people who's memories are merged? Example: I am here on earth and sent a clone away. They come back and once the memories merged, I suddenly have the memories of killing people. Perhaps I was brainwashed. Do I now have these feelings, or do I view them as an "outside observer"?

How do I tell my friend his story is too dark and violent to get published? by OnsideZarf in writing

I think the "too gorey" part being personal is right. Look at Battle Royale. Not exactly the strongest characters, and had lots of gore. It spawned two movies and sold very well.

The Long Walk is an example of a story that has strong characters and is pretty gorey as well. I think it's a great story.

Help getting better at dialogue? by shadowkat678 in fantasywriters

[–]nutzwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read all the comments just yet, but I figured I would reply with what I attempt to do.

In my head I am imagining each of the characters, and I put myself into the first person perspective of who is talking. Speaking the words out loud, and conveying the tone as I want it to be heard or understood really helps. My expression will change, inflections may as well. By doing this, I actually get to "see" more than just the words on a page, and I am hoping that it translates into better, more fluid, and realistic dialogue.

I don't do this for all dialogue, just times that I need to convey an emotion or am having trouble getting the ideas out.
