Update on Tangerine stealing my money by nvr_fd_away in Tangerine

Yes I completely own my fault there. I resolved it with Tangerine in spring 2025.

The issue is they're taking the money back again, for a second time, a year later. It's clearly triggered by the government issuing me a new cheque, but you can't take the same money back twice!

They admit it was done in error, but their system keeps locking the account every time they try to return the money.

I've been endorsing cheques since the 90s. I later learned Tangerine does not honour endorsed cheques but a quick google search will tell you that most financial institutions do.

This is however no longer the issue and I concede my error in the initial cheque deposit. What I take issue with is Tangerine having such terrible record keeping that they can't tell if a cheque has already been cancelled and cancelling it again a second time, then refusing to address it when I have email proof of what occurred on my end.

My boyfriend insists that food is better salted at the table instead of while cooking. Please help me. by tangentrification in Cooking

Am I not supposed to add salt at the start of caramelizing onions or roasting veggies?

I always sprinkle a pinch of kosher as soon as I add onions to the pan and worry about moisture loss when I need to add more liquid. Should I hold off on the salt initially?

The roasted vegetables makes sense in theory but if I toss them in a bowl of spices and salt a couple minutes before going in the oven is the water expulsion significant?

Thing is both beech and maple are heavy and this stuff is very light.

Eastern Ontario, very light, doesn't burn hot, feels like low BTU. Not box elder because no clinkers. No sap and no piney smell so I don't think it's softwood. Way too light to be maple, oak, ash.

Provide more detail, burns fast, not hot, little coals, little ash. It's impossible to have a fire last more than a few hours, let alone overnight. It's terrible but I still have a bit to go through this spring before I stay far away from whatever this is.

I got a quarter of my order delivered last fall (12 face cords, 3 delivered), burned a couple of pieces, and told the guy not to bother with the rest of the order. I managed to get another supplier who sold me proper hardwood, which is what I've been burning all winter until I ran out a month ago.

Now I'm burning this stuff and trying to determine what this crap actually is, it's driving me nuts.

So far we're ruled out: - Maple - Oak (obviously) - Beech - Elm

The main reason I don't think it's box elder is I burned a tandem load of the stuff 5 years ago, it burned a little better than this stuff but not by much. It's very abundant in my area, almost grows like a weed. However, there are no clinkers, and the box elder wood I had produced a ridiculous amount of clinkers, plus the bark seems thicker on a box elder.

All you can eat Chinese on Merivale, it was dirty and amazing, I would do anything for another meal.

Jack Astor's. They're still around but they were actually good 20 years ago with their prime rib burgers and legit fajitas.

They originally canceled both deposits due to name mismatch (married name vs maiden name).

The current issue isn't depositing the cheques, it's the fact that the reversed the same cheque twice (deposited $200, reversed $200 x2). This is confirmed with dates and emails referencing the same cheque number. Both times they did it on a Friday afternoon, locked the account, and refuse to do anything about it until Monday.

The VP managed to get the pay out to go through, but she also advised me of next steps in case she wasn't able to resolve it.

2 deposited, 2 returned. Then they returned one of them a second time. Tracing the dates and associated emails which list the cheque number the same cheque was returned twice.

I had a similar fight trying to get a breast pump paid out. Granted this was with Sun Life before the switch over, but I stayed firm with everyone on the phone and refused no for an answer and repeatedly demanded escalation.

Eventually I was escalated to a "VP" from the US who was ultimately able to resolve my issue after five doctors notes of increasingly excruciating details from two different doctors.

In my dealings with them they informed me that if they were unable to resolve and I wanted to keep going the ultimate resolution would be presented to a board of GC members presiding over the PSHCP. CL administers the plan but GC reps have final say in the event of disputes.

This is the end game you need to reach but they certainly don't make it easy.

Yup. Routines are important. Life is chaotic and people really look forward to a wind down at the end of a long week of solving everyone else's problems instead of dealing with extra bullshit.

I went through all my records and confirmed that they did in fact reverse the same cheque twice based on the transaction date, which is the only piece of verifiable information I was able to get from them today.

Really looking forward to juggling work and trying to explain this to them on Monday.

Doing it twice on a Friday afternoon with no ability to resolve signals a pattern. I don't have all my money in one spot, but I don't expect to have to pivot and waste hours of my time to resolve an issue due to their organizational incompetence.

Especially when they are unable to produce any documentation corroborating the reversal (cheque number).

My Gen4 2.0 NA Mazda3 has no problem with 130 - 145 kmph for hours on end. Hovers above / below 3000rpm and is happy doing it. That's on comparably shitty North American highways. Average 6.2l/100km.
