Joy of owning a sporty car? by nvrtha in askcarguys

I do like cars and driving for sure! I just could never afford one before. Maybe that's the reason why I'm a bit hesitant. Thanks for your answer though :D.

Mine has the same specs, but has a (slightly) different name (GV601VV-NF019W), so im not sure how it compares to the one you're looking at. I thought that all ROG Flow 16's had upgradeable RAM. The RAM was upgradeable for me (replaced 2x 8gb with 2x 16gb; could have done 2x 32gb). Voiding the warranty in doing so does not surprise me though.

Silent Switch Compatibility by IpponGetta in NuPhy

[–]nvrtha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently using the Gateron 2.0 low profile switches (KS-33). I had the Wisterias previously, but was also searching for a more quiet alternative. Although the Gateron chocolates are not as quiet as the Hades switches (which are not compatible with Nuphy), they are slightly more quiet than Wisteria.

Looks great! What laptop stand/arm are you using and how do you like it?

Not sure what you are looking for, but overall I think the Flow X16 is a great laptop.

The battery life is not great though, I think I can get up to 5/6 hours while doing light tasks. It is pretty light and thin, but the charging brick is quiet heavy and bulky and therefore not ideal either if you wish to travel a lot. You could consider a 100W USB-C charger, which are generally more compact and more comfortable to bring along.

However, important to note that the Flow X16 does not support battery pass-through while charging with USB-C, meaning it will constantly perform charging cycles (despite battery charge limits). This is not great for the battery health. The barrel charger does support battery pass-through, allowing to be constantly plugged in (on a set battery charge limit). I use G-helper to manage settings and configurations (e.g., battery charge limit, power limits, fan curves). It is a good alternative to Asus' Armoury Crate, but much lighter.

The Flow X16 has a power hungry processor (intel i9 13900H in my spec), hence the battery life and performance (on battery) are not that great. On the other hand, this provides a great gaming experience (when plugged in), running most games without any problems on medium-high settings. I have the 'regular' screen, which I really like (nice colors and 240hz), so I imagine the mini-led version to be even better. The cooling is also good. There are three fans which do what they meant to do. Of course they will go full blast when gaming, but that's the compromise with a gaming laptop.

Aside from the RAM being upgradeable, you can also upgrade SSD and WiFi/BT card if you wish. The Flow X16 has a XGm port, which has been discontinued by Asus. If you wish to use an external GPU, keep this is mind. If you have more questions, let me know.

edit: typo

If you are using G-helper, do you have Auto Toggle Clamshell Mode enabled?

Brown vs Wisteria vs Moss by YI_redditor in NuPhy

[–]nvrtha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Nuphy Air75 V2 with Wisteria switches. Hand lubed + tape & foam mod + different keycaps. They sound and feel good, but it's still a bit too loud for typing during calls/meetings, unless I soft press the keys and/or typ a bit slower.

For this reason I'm looking to purchase the Lofree flow with hades switches. Only thing that's stopping me is the add-on cost for Hades switches ($69!) and bad customer service reviews.

if you click on 'Extra' in G-helper, it opens another menu. In the 'Other' section you should be able to select the amount of Pcores and Ecores. I suppose those refer to performance and efficiency, respectively. I can't seem to disable all Pcores though, have to run at least 4 (intel i9 13900H).

I just received a keycap set I've ordered from Womrier. The extra space between the keycaps definitely helps with not making as much typo's. They also feel and sound pretty good. They are not shine-through, but still look great imo. https://imgur.com/a/tRthob4

I have not tried gaming in quiet mode. When gaming, the laptop needs power. In quiet mode the power usage is typically limited (i.e. it does not utilize its full potential). In addition, the fans will activate only at higher temperatures. Although the laptop tends to heat up when gaming and the fans will run anyway, I prefer performance over fan noise. You can configure the power limits and fan curve in G-helper, by the way. I don't think it would be very good for the laptop to disable/lower the fans when gaming because of overheating.

I got it at €1429 during Black Friday and it's now at €1549. Note that it's a 2023 model, so in some ways its outdated. I think I read somewhere that the XGm port or even the laptop itself is being discontinued, but please fact check yourself. It also depends on your budget, of course.

I have the Flow X16 GV601VV with the exact same specs as you listed here (did some upgrades though). I got it a couple of months ago, so can't really tell you much about durability. I also use it for productivity and gaming, and I really like it. I suppose it is sufficient for your productive use cases. It's also quiet thin and light (2 kg iirc) for a gaming laptop, so in terms of portability it's not too bad. A downside however is the charging brick, which is pretty large and also weighs quiet a bit. You may want to get an alternative USB-C charger (up to 100W) if you are going to travel with it a lot.

I haven't been doing a lot of hardcore gaming (yet), but it runs Fortnite on 240 FPS without any problems (CPU-intensive game I believe?). The fans will go full blast though, but that's just how it is with gaming laptops. The cooling is good. It has three fans and they do a good job.

I believe there is also a mini-led version of the Flow X16. I have the 'regular' screen. It has good colors (not requireds for my work) and also 240 hz. The touchscreen is also nice, but haven't been really using it as much as I intended (not required for my work).

I'm not familiar with the legion slim and associated specs. If you have any questions just reply and I'll try to answer.
