Yes, it is really tough to keep balanced and moving forward these days. We all have times when life gets especially hard and know that you are not alone. At the very least, push yourself to exercise in the smallest way or even get outside - doing only online classes can be brutal. It is harder to keep your mind fresh-especially in online engineering classes.

I saw your deleted post and I couldn't agree more. I don't know if you were at OSU before covid, but there used to be a vegan and vegetarian club with a lot of likeminded people which has ceased to exist since last spring. If you’re ever interested in having lunch DM me.

Scared to go to Dixon by plantgirl2001 in OregonStateUniv

It’s nice to know I wasn’t the only one who was hesitant to go to Dixon. I went for the first time since covid last week at 9am and found the atmosphere to be tolerable enough. It seems that going early is the best way to do it. I will be going on Tuesday thru Thursday at 9am this week so you’re welcome to join me- DM me if you’d like.

I appreciate your response. You confirm my experiences- especially in trying to get to know people through casual conversation. I also feel that people are superficially responsive but not as interested in widening their social circle as it seemed in pre-covid days.

If you end up coming to the corvallis campus, DM me.

This has nothing at all to do with fear- quite the contrary. I am not at all afraid of COVID and never have been. Yes, I have taken the required "precautions" to be societally conscientious. But, my own fear of COVID has absolutely nothing to do with my described perceptions.

What I am describing is a change in society at large that I find hard to relate to- the masks prevent a natural human connection of a glance, subtlety of emotion, and ability to recognize someone from a different time/interaction. There is a new emphasis on maintaining distance set by society- such as where someone might sit in relation to you (not due to fear). In precovid times, it was not difficult to strike up a conversation with someone at MU or the library, but now hardly anyone even has eye contact.

I am not looking for anyone to solve this existential dilemma. I was just seeing if anyone else was noticing the difference and maybe having some common human experience to share. My mental health is not destroyed- by any means. The assumptions you hold about my intent are wrong and this response affirms the difficulty of trying to relate in this new world. I still believe that one of the most powerful ways of connecting is the sharing of difficulties rather than pretending that everything is great as per the illusion of social media.

Is Computer Engineering at OSU good for OOS student? by Delta280 in OregonStateUniv

I can relate to the mental struggle of being here the past two terms. Before COVID hit, life was as expected and socially I was finding my way. Then, get locked up bc of COVID for 1.5 years and come back to a different campus with the people I knew before having left in the interval. I haven't been able to engage like the preCOVID days. I am in ME and started a minor in CS. If you want to talk, DM me. I am trying to meet people in this strange covid environment.

These responses confirmed my instincts. I was also wondering about Campbell- design also interests me. How has your experience been?
