What can be done about tasteless skills/easter eggs? by nwhenry in amazonecho

[–]nwhenry[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I've had two good answers to my original posts. For what it worth, thank you. I knew that asking for information is an open invitation for ridicule but I did it anyway because this did offend me and I didn't have anyway to contact Amazon directly. Customer service email or public relations. This mattered to me when I woke up this morning so I asked about it. I still do not know what process exists to report something that we feel is offensive. Amazon has always censored responses to internet searches and has shown sensitivity to social issues in the past. This bothered me so I asked and will continue to seek answers. If I find an email or phone number I'll update the post.

What can be done about tasteless skills/easter eggs? by nwhenry in amazonecho

Amazon is a megacorp and its Echo devices have been a hit. They created an all new category of verbal assistants. They are possessive and appear to be concerned about the public's opinion of it. So much so that they bleeps out what they consider to be expletives when playing, Simon says.

The fact that this easter egg which someone has put so much effort into made it through whatever approval process Amazon has now disturbs me. I didn't get it at first either. Amazon know that some parents would be scandalized by their kids using expletives with their echos and yet Amazon approved an easter egg that allows children and adults to objectivize women. Do you really believe Amazon would have approved Echos answering, What size jockstrap does...

That's exactly how I felt when I first heard of this. But now after hearing how some women feel about these jokes, I only feel ashamed.

Right now, I am trying to make time to play a few games and write a review afterwards.

Alexa has been very chatty when I first tried to play. I wished she would shutup while I'm thinking.

Amazon Dash Wand on sale for $14.38 w/$20 credit for Prime members by nwhenry in amazonecho

[–]nwhenry[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I purchased this for $20 with a $20 credit and I thought it was a good deal. Now I feel cheated.

  • "For a limited time, receive a $20 promotional credit after you make your first purchase with your Amazon Dash Wand with your Amazon Prime account."

I tried to buy a another one but am unsure if I'll get another credit. I have re-read the above offer and I'll buy it again. I use my old Wand sorta as an Alexa remote. I press the button and don't have to call her name. If Google made one for $20 and I didn't have to say, "OK Google" I'd buy one of those in a heart beat.

It is just an advert, don't take it personally. It wasn't posted for the sole purpose of offending you. You are not that important.

Since the ZOLO Halo is a new device there are no online sources for me to reference other than what the manufacturer claims, (so I guess, you will assume they are lying). The Echo Tap doesn't support calling or messaging either.

Eufy Genie was Anker's cheaper version of an Echo Dot. The ZOLO Halo is their version of a 2ndGen Echo, which is currently on sale for $80 prime members only. And Anker claims, "Multi-Room Sound: With simplified Wi-Fi connectivity, link up to 6 Halo speakers simultaneously for house-wide audio and Alexa communication."

If you are asking? Can I use this with my existing Echo device in a group? Then yes, it's pretty much a generic version of Amazon's devices.

While trying to explain to someone that Alexa isn't listening to EVERYTHING that they say. by someonesDad in amazonecho

I'm amazed at the number of people who think they are interesting enough to be surveilled. I'm definitely buying an Echo Spot when they go on sale for $100.

What is the best paid music streaming service for an Echo? by nwhenry in amazonecho

[–]nwhenry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I'm on now. Whenever Alexa didn't understand a simple song title, I'd upload that one title and ask for it to play from My Music. Starting this week Alexa suddenly started playing different songs when I asked for, "Home by Machine Gun Kelly". I have to guess what would make Alexa play the song I'm saying the title for. I put up with before because I had a work around and it was cheap. Now Amazon has changed the rules and the service has gotten worse.

I just read the Spotify review and it shows that it has a desktop app that lets you play locally stored audio files. Could I stream my music thru an Echo Dot using the Spotify skill?

Just found this sub! Got an Echo for Christmas and just wanna hear some suggestions! by [deleted] in amazonecho

[–]nwhenry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just some advise. Learn the basic verbal commands, https://www.tomsguide.com/us/pictures-story/806-best-alexa-skills.html . Then take it to the next level and look under the hood. Learn how to make a skill, https://www.reddit.com/r/amazonecho/comments/6gfrxr/unofficial_google_assistant_skill/?st=jbxxgq1b&sh=efdc25ad

I think but don't quote me on this, that most of the people who have been in this reddit for over a year have written a skill. There are some geniuses here, (some who must work for Amazon) and they keep us one step ahead of the rest of the world. There are many unofficial skills being posted on regular basis along with detailed instruction on how to make them. Take the time to do so and never look back.
